It was nice to see Nys back in the break on the final day, shame it asn't on an earlier stage when he would have had a better chance of staying away but oh well, guess the points jersey just wasn't meant to be for us. though it says alot that I got him and fischer so high in that competition and that my top target for the transfers won the GC, shame it wasn't for us but I couldn't be around on the final day to make sure I got him, still was cheering for him in the GC fight anyway.

@ - Thanks everyone who contributed on a regular basis with comments after reading through the reports.
(Shonak) - You definitely had some low points, but some very high ones as well. Thanks.
Final Rankings:
Szmyd domination!
Szmyd takes home all three of the main jerseys at the end of this TOTC. His team supported him amazingly well through all 25 of his days in red since his one and only stage win.
Tschopp ends up in second in all three of the main categories. His attack on Mount Washington was well worth the 2,300,000 but he simply lost too much time on the hilly stages to win the GC, including the infamous time warp stage!
Clarke is a bit like a Denis Menchov. You don't notice him much throughout the whole race and he pops up on the podium! His team were very busy and did a stellar job at keeping him out of trouble, Bluebell Creameries won the TTT which shows they were a well oiled unit.
Sella rode a veteran race and livened up the race at times. He was rarely caught out of position and as a result finishes 4th ahead of Cummings who rode a good race.
7up won the most stages of any team (5) and their aggressive style sees several of their riders rank highly in various jersey competitions.

Cattaneo is the light of Semen Indonesia! A superb tour by the young rider means he takes the white jersey in addition to securing a 10th place in the GC. His teammate Chernetskiy, until he suffered multiple crashes, looked like a strong candidate for the white jersey early on. Then it was a straight out tussle between Cataneo and Barguil for the white.
Sahin Sucuklari take home the team classification! With a great team built for the breaks designed by an enthusiastic D.S, I'm sure we can agree that the Turkish team are worthy winners.
UC Jersey Bonuses:

TOTC5: Final UC rankings:

Spoiler 11 | Cartoon Network | 315 | 11 | Belgacom | 315 | 13 | Borussia Dortmund | 314 | 14 | Alcyon | 301 | 15 | Mota-Engil | 296 | 16 | Petro China | 290 | 17 | Nespresso | 287 | 18 | Aviva - Ryanair | 284 | 19 | Semen Indonesia | 257 | 20 | Koenigsegg | 234 | 21 | Team UK Youth | 225 | 22 | Coca Cola Lime | 17 |
Aer Lingus, despite the jersey dominance of Szmyd, win the UC rankings here for Aer Lingus. Aer Lingus are the most successful TOTC team of all time. With Aer Lingus and Iberia separated by just 13 points the difference was the small things, Garate getting into the top 15 on multiple occasions and some points 'harvested' by Napolitano.
Apart from the team of the tournament and the final lifetime rankings that wraps us up! |

Surprised that REC didn't get more effect in the final week.
Anyway I''m somewhat content with the final result considering that Paulinho lost a lot of time early on and that I went with pot 1 riders not wanted by anyone else.
Thanks for some good races The Rider

Didn't expect to win, but we were good allround. Garate, Pate, Cooke, Napolitano, etc all chipped in a few points. Tschopp very disappointing of course, but I'll happily take the overall win
Thanks for all this, The Rider. I really hope this wasn't the last edition.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

It was a great TOTC!
We had 3 goals, place in top 10, 3 stage victory and many attacks.
Cummings had a place in the top 10.
We had 2 stage victories and 2 times a second place, but unless the missed goal whe are very happy with it.
With almost every stage a attack of sahin, so we are very happy with it.
The team classification wasn't a goal andere wasn't expected but we are very happy with it!

@ Ollfardh - Thanks. Tschopp may have disappointed but is he had an epic stage win and there was no choice but to put him in the team of the tournament!
@ Atlantius - Thank you.
@ tmr96 - Thanks, it was great reading you comments on the racing. (But you could have sent me the Sahin transferts in PCM2011 size!!!!! )
That fully wraps up TOTC5. Feel free to browse though the stages to see how the final results came about! Also, feel free to post your initial goals here and state whether you met them or not.

I'm surprised how high up on the UC rankings we are consdering we didn't really have a GC contender. Still I suppose the ever aggressiveness of our team is to thank for that and 5 wins is a fantastic result, even if it did look like we were going to end 7up at one point.
Looking back on the team I'd like to bring up a few quotes.
The first is right before our first stage win, looks like my team were listening to me.
sammyt93 wrote:
I'm only ahead of the control team in the UC rankings because I guessed Napolitano correctly, things had better pick up for us soon or it could get embarassing.
I knew something was coming good for the team early on,
sammyt93 wrote:
A brillilant stage win for us from the break, hopefully it's a sign of things to come from the team.
And we ended up fooling the experts aswell as surpassing all expectations
The Rider wrote:
@ Sammy: What do you mean? It is not as if your squad will win a mass sprint/ mountain stage. So that win, will no doubt, be one of the top highlights.....
Just before our second win, these prediction powers were starting to show
sammyt93 wrote:
On the other hand it's good to see that it's free'd up the team to be more attacking, with Marayev getting a second place on today's stage proving his crash the other day is no longer effecting him, hopefully we can continue this attaking momentum and become the first team to take a second stage.
And I made another good prediction after stage 16
sammyt93 wrote:
Our consistent breakaway efforts are slowly but surely pulling is into contention for a podium in the UC rankings, hopefully the team can keep this great form up.
And then I successfully predicted us losing the lead in the UC ranking after stage 20
sammyt93 wrote:
I'm starting to get used to all these breakaway podiums, shame that one wasn't a third win for Nys but second was enough for us to take the lead in the UC rankings, thogh with a three way tie for second not that far behind us I'm not sure we're going to be able to hold on to it for long.
and whilst my prediction of us takign 7 wins in total didn't work out it wasn't for lack of trying with quite a few stage podiums afterwards.
And I think we can safely lay claim to the most attacking team with 5 stage wins through Breakaways and having at least 7 of our riders in the break at one point or another.
And Chainel might deserve a place in the 30 man all time TOTC squad based solely on his one man breakaway heroics.

You are gobsmacked !
1. Borussia Dortmund
- With the fastest sprinter on paper and realistic GC hopes, I will be gobsmacked if Borussia Dortmund don't end up on the podium, at least, in the UC rankings here.
Analysis:
Borussia Dortmund bring with them Koren, who like Paulinho went unnoticed in the transfer period. Koren is the top cobbler of the bunch and with a bit of luck may finish highly, a top 10 looks very likely. The same could be said for this teammate Perget. Perget was really unnoticed. If he doesn't suffer too much due to poor recovery he could be the surprise package of this TOTC.
Okay, I have to say that Korean was in a good position before the crash but perget did nothing ..
30nd is close to your prediction ...
With plenty of flat stages and an abundance of quality sprinters present, all of my green jersey favourites are sprinters.
We start off with Borussia Dortmund. They have fast man Davis leading out the fastest man here, Petacchi. With more than 6 nailed on sprinter stages it is very very likely we will see Petacchi victorius in multiple stages. In each of the previous TOTC's the fastest sprinter has always won at least one stage (more than one in 3/4 cases). and with Petacchi having a competent sprint train he looks certain of success.
Sure. Unfortunately, Szmyd, Tschopp and especially Sven Nys were the better sprinters. No multiple victories for him...
These sprints are going to be some spectacle, I tell you!
Sprints? There were sprints in this TOTC ?
Prediction 1.
Not really but 13. Is kind of close
Final conclusion:
TOTC are boring, unfair and disappointing.
Spoiler Of course, I'm just kidding. This TOTC was awesome again and I want to say thank you for hosting!
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Top 7 Ultra Classification
2 Stage Wins
Top 3 TTT
Such awful goals. Main one was easy, I missed the second one(no idea how I managed to miss that one), and the third one was way off.
Still, this TOTC went way better than expected

From bottom, to third bottom.
I guess that's what counts for success for me now
I came second in GC once you know, back in the good old days... |

Geschke throwing his GC top 10 away on stage 27... losing 28 minutes on the final stage is not great.
Did pretty good overall, seeing as I only once had a great GC rider in Evans.
Too bad this is going to end, but thanks for 5 TOTC's. It was great fun. |

Thanks for this nice TOTC. Congrats to the 2 winners, they got strong team and get rewarded!
As for Swiss Life:

GC Top 5

5 stage Top 10
A top 5 overall UC
Miss the 1st and most important objective De Weert finishing only 6th and more importantly far behind Tshopp
So I got what I deserved and got fired No Swiss Life for next TOTC or at least not with me.
1 stage win has been exceeded with a 1st win at the 1st stage.
5 stage Top 10 easily got this as well.
But I failed for Top 5 in overall UC too.
I was expected much more from my team and De Weert in particular has been so disappointing...
