@ cunego - Thanks. Ideally, PCT is the place for us. We would still be able race in the Czech races but also in higher category races. As for the team itself, there is already a good core that should develop well for PCT, but I suppose a few additions deviating from the identity might have to be made!

Great squad you have assembled, should be able to secure promotion for sure and bring a few nice results along the way.
Also a nice first few races for the team. I especially enjoy racing the Istrian Spring Trophy, which usually has some nice stages and gameplay. |

Thanks. Im not sure promotion is secured, lots of good teams still
Thanks! I tried to apply for Tour of Taihu Lake, but wasn't accepted. I couldn't wait to race though, so I tried to get into a lot of January races. New Zealand seemed the most realistic option for a team expanding like ourselves.

Well, I think I read about 1000 comments here about promotion. I guess the team is under pressure now
A nice, fairly easy, starting calendar to get everyone into shape! |

@ Ian - Hey. We aren't under any pressure Thanks
New Zealand Cycle Classic: Stage 1 (2.2)
January 23rd, 2014
The race begins with a 6,5km prologue and it wont likely play into the hands of our own team! We need to get through this stage, because the rest of the race will be a lot better for the team, with them all being flat stages!
The best part about the prologue us we can show off our new jersey for the season! Petrus is pictured here, and is the 2nd highest finisher for the team! No one from the team really does too well or too poorly today, so the rest of the race is where all the action will be for us!

New Zealand Cycle Classic: Stage 2 (2.2)
January 24th, 2014
Stage 2 looks perfect for our man, Nesveda but there are still some good sprinters who can challenge him. We would love to get the season off to a good start and we know we need to be consistent all year if we are to have any chance of challenging for promotion!
The start of the action began with Petrus grabbing the team some KOM points! He started off solo but was later joined by Santoro where they traded KOM points. In the end though, Petrus was able to claim the most KOM points on the day.
Shifting to the sprint now, and the team executes a train perfectly. Okrouhlicky, Hunal and then Nesveda. No one is forming a train to challenge us, so things are looking really good!
And so, like we thought, Nesveda took a huge win for the team! Its just a fantastic start to the season and we couldn't have asked for a better start! We cant forget that on top of the stage win, we are also the holders of the KOM jersey. My guess is the other sprinters will come back tomorrow and bring their A-Game. Our wins wont be this easy the rest of the race.

What should i say then?.. i lost Themanx, Ian butler, admirschleck and some more, only have 4 members who comment... few but good ones..
You should not let this throw you down, keep it up.
Now for the squad, loved to see how you didn´t overtaked with transfers.. sprints are the main "weapon" from the team, so i hope to see some nice wins there..

@ Ian - Indeed! Thanks. Its the current one. Last year I was using the outdated one
@ sutty - Thanks, I couldn't believe no one got close to him. He actually got lucky, since he sorta blocked Lovassy.
@ tsmoha - Thanks, I was too! It was nice to start a "foreign" race off so well! And yes, you are correct! They are all categorized as flat, but I think the final 3 are all fairly lumpy like the first road stage was!
@ baia - True, maybe Im not aware of what its like for others around me! I think in general commenting seems down. Thanks a lot for the comment! I hope to get some sprint wins too, but I personally enjoy climbs more, so hopefully we can still do well there!

New Zealand Cycle Classic: Stage 3 (2.2)
January 25th, 2014
Today looks like another day for the sprinters! The middle of the stage suits a breakaway which can be clear and collect all the KOM's and sprints, although even if a rider were to win all 3 KOM's they would not overtake Petrus the current leader! That means he can rest for atleast a day, in defending his lead!
First up is the break of the day! The biggest name here is Serge Pauwels, while Dolezel is also there to represent the team! He tries his best to defend the lead of his teammate and current leader in the KOM, but he is by far the weakest rider in the breakaway and really cant do anything about it. He suffered all day, just to hang on, on the climbs!
With that option clearly not working for the team, we decided to employ another strategy! Martin Hunal made an attack with 16km to go, on the small bump before the finish! Its worth a shot, and he's been able to pull of f similar moves in the past! He reaches Dolezel ahead who protects him for a couple kms to save his legs for the final push!
Its no use though, as he's swept up with 9km to the finish! The sprinters are going to have this one! Was it a mistake to send Hunal on the attack as now the team is missing their best lead-out man!
Utensilnord has the strongest looking train today, and are further ahead than the other two trains of Sparta Praha and Optum Kelly Benefits, for Ken Hanson!
They go under the banner and Mitch Torckler is the front rider! He;s probably started too soon, and we will see the favourites come round him in the closing meters! Its going to be a very close fight with 3 riders challenging, Hanson, Nesveda and Slik.
Hanson gets the win! Nice sprinting from him, and the team will be happy with their successful train. On the contrary, Utensilnord will be quite a quiet bus on the way to the hotel! All that work, and it looked like a perfect train, but the team couldn't deliver for the 2nd stage in a row! Their sprinter Lovassy finished all the way down in 25th! As for us, it was another good day and Nesveda will grab hold of the points jersey!

@ Ian - Thanks a lot! I've finally got a stage with some nice lighting effects! The way I edit my screens, the bright stages like that look the best imo.
@ sutty - Thanks! It will be tough to keep the KOM I think, but the Points I hope we can finish the race with on our backs!
@ baia - Thanks! Yeah, Petrus may be going on the attack in the coming stages. Thanks for the kind words about the screens! I just love when I can get them to look nice!

New Zealand Cycle Classic: Stage 4 (2.2)
January 26th, 2014
Its another flat stage, and with the podium finish of yesterday, we would only like to improve on that result and get another victory! We currently hold the KOM and the Points, but we will have trouble holding on to those I feel!
Early in the stage, a breakaway is formed. With only 10 available points in the KOM, and all of the breakaway riders being on 0 points, we felt like this was a safe breakaway to let clear. They went through the first KOM fine, but for some reason the peloton really began to chase them down, and catch the break in time for the last KOM of the day!
Our team kinda forgot to pay attention to this, and this allowed Mohammad Saufi Mat Senan to grab the 5 KOM points and take the overall KOM lead, with 1 more point than Petrus. This was a really stupid error on our part, and we will hope to grab the jersey back on the final stage tomorrow!
Off to the sprint finish now and Optum have the strongest leadout for Ken Hanson! The disaster that was today, just kept getting worse, with Hunal and Nesveda positioned way down! Only Koudela could grab Hanson's wheel, but not being a sprinter we couldn't expect much from him!
In the end though, it wasn't Ken Hanson with the win for Optum, but Peter Velits! Quite the shock there, but he does have a pretty good sprint! With the win on the Prologue, he now overtakes the lead in the Points jersey, so we lose both of our jerseys on the day! Slik who finished in 2nd today, also moves ahead of Nesveda in the points.
1 | Peter Velits | Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies | 2h17'45 | 2 | Ivar Slik | Rabobank Development Team | s.t. | 3 | Assan Bazayev | Team Differdange - Losch | s.t. | 4 | Tomáš Koudela | AC Sparta Praha | s.t. | 5 | Jasper Bovenhuis | Rabobank Development Team | s.t. | 6 | Pieter Ghyllebert | An Post - Chainreaction | s.t. | 7 | Filipe Duarte Sousa Cardoso | Efapel - Glassdrive | s.t. | 8 | Ken Hanson | Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies | s.t. | 9 | Maximiliano Ariel Richeze | Rabobank Development Team | s.t. | 10 | Arkaitz Durán Aroca | Efapel - Glassdrive | s.t. |

New Zealand Cycle Classic: Stage 5 [Final] (2.2)
January 27th, 2014
Its the final stage of the race, and what started out as a great race, has all been lost! We felt like we were about to dominate the race after the first road stage, but that has not been the case, and to lose both jerseys yesterday, was really poor! We will try our best to salvage what we can from this race today, but right now nothing is looking too good for us!
With that in mind, Petrus went on the attack for the KOM jersey, and finished 3rd in the first KOM sprint! This put him 1 point in the lead again, but there was still one KOM left and the peloton chased the breakaway back about 15km before the final KOM sprint, meaning Petrus could still lose his virtual KOM lead!
That wasn't the case though, as he made an abnormally long distance sprint to the KOM! Mat Senan couldn't fully bridge the gap, and so Petrus is your winner of this years New Zealand Cycle Classic KOM jersey! That was quite the move by him for the final sprint and the team can be very happy knowing that we will be taking home atleast one jersey and a stage win from the race, now!
In a stage race for the sprinters, its no surprise to see the final stage end in a sprint! The two major players are there in Optum and Sparta! Slik is following the middle sprint train of Efapel, so we should have a really exciting sprint for the win! Nesveda needs a really strong finish to be able to grab back the Green jersey!
It turns out Efapel was the strongest train today! Nesveda started his sprint a little late and couldn't quite make up the gap, but a 4th place is always good! Slik on the other hand, followed the slipstream of the perfect rider and got his way up to 3rd, clinching the Points jersey, with no help from his team-mate Richeze who could have really messed things up, by beating him on the line. Richeze Im sure wanted to get the Green for himself, that may be an interesting in-team rivalry to follow this year. They obviously dont want to work together!

Jiri finishes the race with another fine performance, pity he couldn't hold on to the Points jersey though
But Petruš winning the Mountains Classification is a nice replacement |
