Pro Continental Presentation 2013 - Part 2/3
Cofidis, Le Crédit en Ligne
| In | Out | | Wout Poels (Vacansoleil) | Damien Monier (Leopard CT) | | Carlos Castano (Free Agent) | Egoitz Garcia (Free Agent) | | Sylvestre Perin (Neo Pro) | Jan Ghyselinck (Free Agent) | | Leonard Lambert (Neo Pro) | Yoann Bagot (Free Agent) |
Cofidis did not lose any of their top riders but got Wout Poels, a possible future GT winner. Together with Taaramae they have a good stage race duo. Castano will be a solid mountain domestique. Petit became a solid sprinter last season, so they belong to the strongest PCT teams.
Colnago - CSF Inox
| In | | Enrico Zen (Free Agent) | | Alberto Loddo (Free Agent) | | | Marco Benfatto (Free Agent) | | | Stefano Borchi (Free Agent) | | | Massimo Ricca (Neo Pro) |
Afraid of other teams? You could think so by looking on the transfers. No rider left and all new riders were free agents or neo pros. Pozzovico, Modolo and Battaglin belong to the best in the PCT and build a nice coe around young riders. The new riders give them good depth to belong to the better teams.
Colombia Coldeportes
| In | | Rui Costa (Movistar) | | Florencio Ramos Torres (Free Agent) | | Joaquim Sampaio (Free Agent) | | Hugo Manuel vitor (Free Agent) | | Pablo Concha (Track) | | Mark French (Track) | | Jason Nibblet (Track) |
Nobody leaves the team but in Rui Costa a great stage racer joins them. The rest of the new riders are either old helpers or track sprinters, who won`t have much influence.
Endura Racing
| In | Out | | Remi Cusin (TT1 - Sanofi) | Jonathan Tiernan-Locke (Sky) | | Anthony Geslin (FDJ) | Scott Thwaites (Free Agent) | | Daniel Lloyd (Free Agent) | Robert Partridge (Free Agent) | | Thomas Patrick Faiers (Free Agent) | Zackari Dempster (Free Agent) | | Jay Crawford (Free Agent) | | | Simon Gaywood (Free Agent) | | | Roger Hammond (Free Agent) | | | Rob Hayles (Free Agent) | | | Matt Rowe (Free Agent) | | | Chris Hoy (Track) | | | Jason Kenny (Track) |
Tiernan-Locke brought them to the higher division almost alone and left the team then. Cusin and Geslin need to fill this hole now. The other new riders are mostly experienced Brits, who might help them a bit. Sir Chris Hoy and Jason Kenny come from the track.
EPM - UNE
| In | Out | | Jose Serpa (Androni) | Francisco Colorado Hernandez (Champion) | | Walter Pedraza (Caja Rural) | | Javier Gomez Pineda (Fee Agent) | | Yamith Gualtero Gomez (Free Agent) |
The new PCT team has only 12 riders, which might be too less. Jose Serpa is a high quality rider. So were Colorado and Hernandez and Pedraza. Too less new additions I think even if they still have half of their team spicked with great climbers and a half decent sprinter. Not enough depth.
Farnese Vini-Selle Italia
| In | Out | | Eros Cappecchi (Liquigas) | Kevin Hulsmans (Topsport) | | Ignazio Moser (Free Agent) | Diego Cacchia (Free Agent) | | Dario Cioni (Free Agent) | | | Francesco Bellotti (Free Agent) | | | Danielle Nardello (Free Agent) | | | Leonardo Pinizzotto (Free Agent) |
Pozzato, Guardini and Gatto are the leaders. Moreno`s cousin Ignazio can become a great rider and has a perfect team for developing. Cappecchi as well is a nice addition.
They should do well in classics and sprints but miss the high mountains climber.
HIG - Sanofi
| In | Out | | Ian Boswell (Bontrager - Ridley) | Julien El Fares (Cyclingteam De Rijke) | | Borut Bozic (Astana) | Remi Cusin (Endura) | | Denis Galimzjanov (Free Agent) | Alexander Efimkin (Terenagganu Cycling) | | Romain Bardet (Ag2r) | Aldo-Ino Ilesic (Adria Mobil) | | Alexandre Geniez (Argos Shimano) | Aleksandr Serebryakov (Free Agent) | | Sylvain Calzati (Free Agent) | Georg Preidler (Free Agent) | | Joey Rosskopf (Free Agent) |
El Fares, Cusin and Efimkin are tough loses. But in Geniez, Boswell and Bardet they found brilliant additions. All three are still young and have great potential. With Bozic and Galimzjanov they also found two great sprinters. All together they won a lot of quality and could be the surprise 2013. |

Agree. Had hoped for Boswell to stay as well. But he wanted to leave and I am happy that he is riding for the former Team Type 1 instead of Bank BGZ.
Rui costa is a weird move but a good one for the team for sure.
Endura is a nice team indeed. They found great additions.
Pro Continental Presentation 2013 - Part 3/3
Itera - Katusha
| In | Out | | Diego Ulissi (Lampre) | Dmitri Mokrov (Free Agent) | | Lorenzo Bernucci (Free Agent) | Andrei Solomennikov (Free Agent) | | Hubert Schwaab (Free Agent) | Sergei Rudaskov (Free Agent) | | Daniel Medina (Free Agent) | | | Taiji Nishitani (Free Agent) | | | Gonzalo Mirando Figueira (Free Agent) | | | Miroslav Minchev (Track) |
Ulissi is a great addition. Bernucci, Schwaab and Medina will help them as well. So they are stronger than last year. But maybe they should have gone for Seregryakov, who is a free agent now instead of weaker foreign sprinters.
Landbouwkrediet - Euphony
| In | Out | | Niels Albert (Free Agent) | Kevin Peeters (Whirlpool) | | Kristoff Vollon (Free Agent) | Reinier Honig (Efapel) | | Jelte de Meijer (Neo Pro) | Kurz Hovelynck (Free Agent) | | Stef Jans (Neo Pro) | | | Timothee Autret (Neo Pro) |
They might have lost a bit of their strength but in especially Niels Albert will really help them. Still one of the best PCT Northern Classic teams.
Lotto - Belisol
| In | Out | | Steve Schets (Jongsport Vlaanderen) | Andre Greipel (Rabobank) | | Kevin Van Impe (Free Agent) | Gianni Meersman (BMC) | | Christoph Brandt (Free Agent) | Joost Van Leijen (Efapel) | | Bart Bury (Free Agent) | Marcel Sieberg (Rapha Condor) | | Glen d'Hollander (Free Agent) | Vicente Reynes (Andalucia) | | Oliver Kaisen (Free Agent) | | Sander Cordeel (Free Agent) |
They lost lots of quality but they kept Vandenbroeck, Vanendert and World Champion Roelandts, who must step up now with Greipel gone.
Schets adds some more sprint to the team. Should be a probable promotion team.
Saur Soyasun
| In | Out | | Arnaud Demare (FDJ) | Julien Simon (Omega Pharma) | | Kevin Cherruault (Free Agent) | Cyril Lemoine (Bretagne Schuller) | | Stephane Auge (Free Agent) | Christophe Laborie (Free Agent) | | Francois Pervis (Track) | Etienne Tortelier (Free Agent) |
Simon is a tough loss. But Demare is one of the biggest sprinter talents and already capable to win against the best. So in general a good swap. Copple is their one man show in the mountains, so it will again be hard to prove his talent.
Saxo Bank - Tinkoff Bank
| In | Out | | Jakob Fuglsang (RadioShack) | Nick Nuyens (Liquigas) | | Ruben Bongiorno (Free Agent) | Nikki Sörensen (Team WIT) | | Gabriel Brizuela (Free Agent) | David Tanner (Atlas) | | Jorge Giacinti (Free Agent) | Jonas Sörensen (Veranda) | | Stijn Hoornaert (Free Agent) | Lucas Haedo (Cameroun Cycling) | | Frank Hoj (Free Agent) | Christophe Juul-Jensen (Glud) | | Christian Mikkelsen (Neo Pro) | Michael Morkov (Glud) | | Rafael Majka (CCC Polsat) | | Jesus Hernandez (Free Agent) | | Jonathan Cantwell (Free Agent) |
Nuyens left after relegation. But the others can be replaced. With Fuglsang they even got some great stage race quality added. Bongiorno can replace Haedo. The others might become helper.
In general similar strong as last season although they miss any Northern races points.
Topsport Vlaanderen
| In | Out | | Kevin Hulsmans (Farnese Vini) | Pieter Serry (Bontrager - Ridley) | | Tom Stubbe (Free Agent) | Sven Vandousselare (Jong Vlaanderen) | | Dimitry Claeys (Free Agent) | Steven Van Vooren (An Post) | | Pieter Mertens (Free Agent) | Kenny de Ketele (Accent Jobs) | | Kenny Van der Schueren (Free Agent) | Eliot Lietaer (Free Agent) | | Philip Delee (Neo Pro) | Arthur Vanoverberghe (Free Agent) | | Stijn Neyrinck (Free Agent) |
With Wallays, Armee and Van Staeyen they kept a great core. Serry hurts the most as he was a great classic rider. Wallays and De Vreese must absorb this loss. Not as strong on the cobbles as the other Belgium PCT teams but therefore also good on harder terrain.
Team Utensilnord Named
| In | Out | | Fabio Borghesà (Free Agent) | Adrian Kurek (Free Agent) | | Lucas Papa (Neo Pro) | Federico Reocchetti (Free Agent) | | Matteo Fedi (Free Agent) |
One of the weakest PCT teams. But they also were last season and somehow managed to collect enough points. Borghesi can become a good signment. The three riders leaving were helpers but the team is small and could need some of these helpers. Will be hard to stay PCT for another season.

Hoy and Kenny. This DB is like... freaking awesome. I dont like Armstrong and Simoni but its kinda awesome too see this comeback. That plus Hoy and Kenny.
Although, i'm not totally convinced by their complete lack of ability outside a couple of stats. Especially on the flat.
Been following this story since the start, might be my first post though. Absolutely love it. Easily the best story I've read on these boards. Love the fact its both incredibly focused on one rider and yet at the same time covers EVERYTHING! Its almost better then playing XD |

Great previews Roturn, some teams got a lot stronger ans ome weaker, i like the big transfer movemnt and addition of some not well know riders developing really well.
And WTF Niels Albert is a 75 climber now?
Cant wait to see your teams roster.

Thanks all. Really great to see your comments.
@Flair: Me neither. Had I seen them in the free agent pool I would have deleted them before. I also don`t really like all the track sprinters as they might be good simulation riders. In 3D I am afraid of teams riding for them on sprint stages.
Great to hear you like this story. Hope you also like the new team and will follow the 2nd season.
@Avin: Albert surprised me as well. Don`t know his start stats if there was any mistake or if the game saw him as climber and he improved there...
Will start with the Bontrager Ridley presentation now. Should come within the next hours. |

Bontrager - Ridley
As announced earlier this season we found a new co-sponsor in the belgium bike company Ridley. But although we got some Belgium riders, we keep our mainly American focus.
| In | Out | | Jens Keukeleire (Cofidis) | Ian Boswell (HIG - Sanofi) | | Kristoff Goddaert (Ag2r) | Jasper De Buyst (Free Agent) | | Pieter Serry (Topsport) | | | Joshua Berry (Chipotle) | | | Alex Howes (Garmin) | | | Nathan Haas (Garmin) | | | Jacob Rathe (Garmin) | | | Ben Grenda (Rapha Condor) | | | Corely Leonard (Neo Pro) | | | Austin Crawford (Neo Pro) | | | Juan Lawrence (Neo Pro) | | | Brent Wilson (Neo Pro) | |
We really improved our team with some quality riders. Most important was to find a sprinter as we lost lots of points last season by not being competive on most flat stages. Also we had to find a good addition for Ian Boswell, who unfortunately decided to leave the team. In Serry and Howed we hope to have similar quality. Berry and Haas give us some more depth in the climbing area, while Goddaert and Rathe adds depth to the classic area. Grenda is still young and is supposed to become a lead out for Keukeleire.
The rest of the new riders are US neo pros. We hope to see Crawford becoming a future great stage racer as he looks the most promising of them.
Joseph Dombrowski was our best placed rider in the last season and he decided to stay with us for another season after we reached the PCT level. He already showed in 2012 that he can challenge even the very best. Like last year he is our main stage racer and is supposed to repeat his California performance.
Jens Keukeleire is a great addition. Since we signed him he made another step forward and should really help us in the sprints now where he belongs to the best in the PCT division. Also his classic skills will make him important in the cobbled races.
Pieter Serry is not as strong as Boswell on the long climbs. The Belgium prefers the shorter but steeper climbs of the Ardennes. He will be our main hilly leader. Last season we mainly were focussed on the mountain races. This will change a lot this year as the team is far more balanced.
Well. I am not really a leader in my 2nd season. I wasn`t improving last season and this means I still have to learn a lot. I hope that my 2nd season will be better after an already pretty successful season 2012.
My situation is not become easier. While I was one of the hilly leaders last season I have riders like Serry, Berry and even Haas and Howes above me.
On the other hand this could mean more freedoms in breakaways I think.
Last season I had one stage win and two KoM wins. I really want to add something more to my palmares.
21 should be a nice amount of riders to start a PCT season with. Keukeleire and Berry highly improved during the last 3 months which makes our team even stronger than planned.
We lost some power in the mountains as it depends even more on Dombrowski and Parker. But with Serry and Berry we have great puncheurs now.
Howes, Haas, Stuyven and I all have room left to improve there as well and so this could become our new focus.
Our team is well balanced for 2013 and our goal must be to stay in the PCT division, which should be possible.
| Wildcard | Tour Down Under | | 3rd | Amgen Tour of California | | 3rd | USA Pro Cycling Challenge | | 1st | Tour of the Battenkill | | 3rd | Tour of Utah | | ----------- | ----------------------------------------- | | Wildcard | Milano San Remo | | Top 5 | Internationale Österreichrundfahrt | | Top 5 | Criterium International | | Top 5 | Tour de Wallonie | | Top 5 | Post Danmark Rundfahrt |
I think our main sponsor goals are pretty realistic. The focus is on America and after last season the expectations are obviously high. Also the sponsor immediately wants to make use of the ability to get wildcards for World Tour races and hopes to be right at the first of the season in Down Under. As far as I know they only give 1 wildcard so the chances are not great I think.
Ridley`s goals a bit more international. Tour de Wallonie of course as a Belgium race musn`t miss there. Danmark, Criterium International and Österreichrundfahrt are all prestigous races and we hope to get invited there. Milanso San Remo was always a dream for me to participate there. But I doubt we will do this just in the 1st ever PCT season. Even if Keukeleire should do really well there.

Great so far!
Ryan will have a free role more often, hopefully. Serry, Keukeleire and Goddaert are brilliant signings and will prove very useful in the PCT league.
Hope Boswell's loss will be compensated by Dombrowski's evolution of attributes |

Thanks Ian.
He definitely should as he is stronger than some helpers but weaker than the leaders. So definitely getting a chance more often.
Schedule 2013
| 23.01. - 29.01. | Tour de San Luis | 2.1 | | 09.02. - 12.02. | Tour Mediterraneen | 2.1 | | 26.02. | GP di Lugano | 1.1 | | 23.03. - 25.03. | Criterium International | 2.HC | | 05.04. | Grand Prix Pino Cerami | 1.1 | | 11.04. | De Brabantse Pijl | 1.HC | | 15.04. | Tour of the Battenkill | 1.2 | | 22.04. - 29.04. | Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey | 2.HC | | 06.05. | Circuit de Wallonie | 1.1 | | 13.05. - 20.05. | Amgen Tour of California | 2.HC | | 21.05. | Florida GP | 1.2 | | 01.07. - 08.07. | Int. Österreich Rundfahrt | 2.HC | | 07.08. - 12.08. | Tour of Utah | 2.1 | | 20.08. - 26.08. | USA Pro Cycling Challenge | 2.HC | | 15.09. | Univest GP | 1.2 |
The team just announced my season schedule today.
I am very happy with it s I get the chance to present myself in most US races and in especially I am glad to make it into the squad of California and Colorado, which is great. Also I will participate in several HC races, which means a higher competition and probably also some helper tasks in these races.
Therefore I was promised to get some kind of free role in the other races.
Again I will start my season in Argentina at the Tour de San Luis. Hopefully a good sign as I won the KoM there last season and why shouldn`t I try it again.
I will try to improve my skills a bit to become part of the USA World Championship squad once again. It will be hard but I will definitely try.
My goal for the season is pretty easy: Be better than last year and collect as many experiences as possible.
This means get at least 2 stage wins, some good GC results, always trying to fight for the KoM points, better than 9th in the Nationals and of course support the leaders as much as possible.

The goal might be easy, but achieving it will not be
I will surely enjoy Ryan's struggle in 2013, and I can't wait to see him back in action! He's got a very nice schedule for him, hope he can do a lot with it! Maybe even win a single race day, that would be brilliant! |

I like the calendar too, there is not much of a rest periods, so Ryan will be in action almost the whole cycling year, that is good for us, his fans.
I think races like Presidential Tour of Turkey and Gran Prix Pino Cerami should be ideal for his second year development. So good luck in the new year!

I tried to make it interesting for me to play, for you to follow and to keep it realistic.
He has two periods of 4-5 weeks without races. Other than that he is constantly on his bike. Well, he wants to become a Gilbert/Gerrans kind of rider, right?
Santos Tour Down Under
Only 6 teams tried to get a wildcard for the first World Tour race of the season. Next to us Acqua & Sapone, Bretagne - Schuller, Caja Rural, Farnese Vini and Lotto Belisol asked for the only remaining spot.
Our chances haven`t been very good as first year PCT team but still we had hoped a little bit.
In the end the organisation decided to invite the Spanish team Caja Rural even over the former WT team Lotto Belisol. Some of their new signings like Barredo or Sastre might have been an important factor.
For us this means that our season planning goes as expected and we start the season with the Tour de San Luis.
Maybe we are more lucky later in the season as we also asked for wild cards in some of the classics that suit Keukeleire as also for the Tour of Pologne. The amount of wild cards are higher there, so maybe we can take a ride in a WT race.
In other news Joshua Atkins is the new New Zealand Road Champion after beating his companions with a late attack out of the breakaway. We are glad to have a National Champion in our squad this season.
Haas, Grenda and Parker had no chance in Australia. Haas were in the breakaway but crashed at half time which destroyed our chances. Haussler won the road and Durbridge the ITT Nationals in Down Under.
Tour de San Luis
The Tour de San Luis is held since 2007 as 2.1 UCI America race. So it`s a very important one for us as well.
Vincenzo Nibali might be the most popular former winner here which already shows how big this race is even for World Tour teams.
Result in 2012
| 1 | Michel Kreder | Garmin - Sharp - Barracuda | | 2 | Daniel Oss | Liquigas - Cannondale | | 3 | Nicolas Roche | AG2R La Mondiale | | 4 | Fabian Wegmann | Garmin - Sharp - Barracuda | | 5 | Rinaldo Nocentini | AG2R La Mondiale | | 6 | Jens Voigt | RadioShack - Nissan | | 7 | Kai Reus | UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team | | 8 | Mathias Frank | BMC Racing Team | | 9 | Sergio Luis Henao Montoya | Sky Procycling | | 10 | Tiago Machado | RadioShack - Nissan |
Michel Kreder won the race last year after collecting some bonus seconds in the sprint and being too strong on the hills as well. Ian Boswell as 13th was our best rider last year while I finished as 17th plus the KoM jersey. I hope to have a similar great start also in 2013.
Profiles
The race contains 4 stages, which should be for the sprinters, 2 hill finishes and a flat time trial. Combination of harder stages and time trial is always not ideal for us as we still miss a real stage racer.
Startlist
By looking on the startlist you see lots of big stars. In especially the Astana team sends 6 of their strongest riders, who could also dominate a GT.
Garmin comes back with last years winner Michel Kreder, who surely must be named within the big favourites again although the opponents are stronger this year.
Also the row of sprinters is impressive. Bennati, Bozic, Kreder, Breschel, Oss, Bongiorno, Nizzolo or Friedman.
Bontrager Squad
We don`t have a real leader. Parker is our strongest climber, Berry our best puncheur. But both are weak time trialists. That`s Craddocks terrain but it`s very questionable if he can keep contact on the hills.
I am somewhere in between everything and will have a free role just like last year. So let`s see what I can do here.
Ben Grenda makes his debut and immediately as first sprinter, what he won`t do too often this season. Brown completes the squad.
Team Goals:
- Top 10 GC
- KoM
My Goals:
- KoM
- Top25 GC |
