They didn't today. Suggestion is that they might not on the road stages either.

What, you mean back in the 80s?
when everyone was doped?
the 80s were nice because they didn't have EPO yet and the doping opportunities were more limited.
However, the time when everyone had EPO was nice too. |

Checking all the major British news portals - Sky, BBC, Guardian - you get the impression cycling is of no importance to the British people. Considering that news like "John Terry going to court" gets more attention than Wiggins and Froome more or less dominating the sport, you do begin to ask yourself what's the point in it all. Seems like only the rest of the Europeans respect what the fairly newly established Sky has accomplished in few years.
The other fun fact is Brits tend to report the loss of Murray more than the double win of Froome and Wiggins or before that their very strong performance in the mountains.
Just a thought. It may be a bit off-topic, but I did have the need to say it. |

It's true that the sport is still a "minority sport", however viewing figures are starting to become huge, it is getting into the front of the sports pages in the paper and it is the fastest growing sport in the UK.
The sport that we Brits here love is getting bigger. I personally love that friends start taking interest in it too.

Yeah, it affected all riders the same, which is what dope does, as it's well-known, so we had a nice fair competition, isn't it ? |

I still believe there's a lot of ignorance from your media towards cycling. If - for example - a Slovenian was leading TDF, it would be all over the covers, while in Britain it gets a bore mentioning.
When you say your friends? Do you mean with that just a few or those who usually never watch cycling?
Well, I hope it changes to better soon, it sure does seem to have a lot of potential for cycling to become as popular in Britain as it was in the times of Lance Armstrong in USA. |

The BBC Sport website has covered the Tour de France a lot more actively than in the past. The creation of Team Sky has definately helped with media coverage in Britain aswell.
And of course, media coverage will keep growing after days like today.
It will be interesting to see if the coverage grows as the race develops. Wimbledon is over, the Euros are over, and the British F1 GP has passed - the Tour de France is the main sporting event now until the Olympics.

And will be.
Wimbledon and F1 at Silverstone are British events in their home country.
Tour is in France.
I think it's obvious Britain prioritize their biggest events.
Tour will get more spotlight from now on. No football, tennis, gold or athletics for next 2 weeks I believe.

As sad as it sounds the British press would rather report on David Beckhams new haircut than the Tour de France |
