Garmin - End of 3rd Season - Continue in PCM11
Porte
Well done on 8th overall at the Giro despite Martin losing so much time on that flat stage.

That was a huge Giro, it was great to read.

Nce result with Zabriskie, bad luck there was no time gap.

Thanks. I just can recommend Emmea`s Giro variant. All mountains are well to climb with constant slopes. Also all stages look really nice.

Wiltz - Diekirch

Actually this stage is quite similar to last stage. On the final circuit we have to ride 3 laps over a small hill again. This will be the best chance to attack.

img443.imageshack.us/img443/8793/pcm0002j.jpg
4 riders attacked quite early. Tossato (Quickstep), Van De Walle (Omega), Quemeneur (Bbox) and Borry (An Post) aren`t that dangerous in the overall.

img140.imageshack.us/img140/4612/pcm0003s.jpg
Like yesterday Dao and Löw are doing the pace. Zabriskie had a great result and so he will get another chance today. Also Boom feels better than yesterday.

img822.imageshack.us/img822/3654/pcm0004.jpg
60km and still 5'30 for the group. So also Bobridge is helping now. With his pace the gap is melting.

img718.imageshack.us/img718/2650/pcm0005cc.jpg
First of the 3 hills and F. Schleck attacks. Chavanel, Wegmann and Vaugrenard are following. Bobridge is still in front and so we don`t attack.

img254.imageshack.us/img254/2978/pcm0006w.jpg
He was caught again on the descent but on the next climb he is trying it again. He is the strongest by far. That was already obvious in the last stage.

img602.imageshack.us/img602/273/pcm0007.jpg
This time Zabriskie and Boom are counter attacking. Rabon seems to have problems and so this is our chance.

img560.imageshack.us/img560/522/pcm0008.jpg
But again it wasn`t successful. On the descent all riders are together again.
On the last hill it`s again Schleck with an attack. Boom and Zabriskie are also increasing as much as possible.

img217.imageshack.us/img217/5581/pcm0009q.jpg
But Frank wasn`t able to create a gap. But nevertheless he wins the sprint of the group. Rabon was able to hold contact and reached the finish as 39th as last of the favourite`s group.
Zabriskie is on 8 now. The successful breakaways beated the strongest riders this time.
Tomorrow it`s a flat stage so the overall might stay.

Shock Frank looks really strong... But this was the last hilly stage Pfft Or am I wrong? Zabriskie performs quite good.

Unfortunately the last stage is too flat for an attack. So the 8th is the maximum for him. Unfortunately I missed that break the one stage. So it was hard to gain time on him.

Skoda Tour de Luxembourg - Stage 5
Mersch - Luxembourg

A flat stage for the sprinter. Best chances might have the Giro riders like Feillu, McEwen, Swift or Vigano. But also Ciolek and Bozic are good sprinters.
As we have no sprinter in our squad we will try to join a group.

img593.imageshack.us/img593/9115/pcm0002p.jpg
Bobridge is our man today. With 5'45 back he isn`t such a big danger for Rabon.

img692.imageshack.us/img692/8307/pcm0003k.jpg
With 90km to ride he is now the new virtual leader. The gap is bigger than 6min.

img6.imageshack.us/img6/3503/pcm0004w.jpg
With a beautiful landscape Sky and Vacansoleil are doing the pace and the advantage becomes smaller. Doesn`t look too good for the group.

img375.imageshack.us/img375/5121/pcm0005z.jpg
8km to the finish they are caught and now the sprint trains are formed. Boom is on Goddaert`s wheel and also Dao is behind him although he isn`t top fit after the last hills.
When the sprint starts Boom tries to get Ciolek`s back as he has the best position.

img841.imageshack.us/img841/4743/pcm0006s.jpg
In the end Romain Feillu was the strongest. After his win in the Giro he is successful the 2nd time this year. Swift and McEwen couldn`t pass.
Boom on 4 with a great result ahead of Ciolek. Dao with a 12th is also becoming better and better with every race.
There were no changes in the overall as expected. Rabon had the right feeling with the attack on stage 2.

Wow! Rabon won the overall....too bad you couldn´t improve Dave´s placement. So what´s the next race?

roturn
Well Rabon has 74hi, so he was a favourite.

Next races will be Dauphinee (Hesjedal,Rojas), Zeeland (Boom) and Suisse(Sanchez,Farrar). Then nationals and Tour (Hesjedal,Farrar).

The "Criterium du Dauphine" is the most important preparation for Le Tour next to the "Tour de Suisse". So many riders participating here and go for the overall will also be top 15 contenders within the Tour.
It leads over many mountains, so the winner is a climber or stage racer.
It was first held in 1947. Record champions with 3 wins each are Nello Lauredi, Luis Ocaña, Charly Mottet and Bernard Hinault.

Result in 2010:
1Christoph Le MevelFDJ
2Roman KreuzigerLiquigas-Doimo
3Andy SchleckTeam Saxo Bank
4Bradley WigginsSky Professional Cycling Team
5Cadel EvansTeam Katusha
6Markus FothenTeam Milram
7Tony MartinTeam HTC - Columbia
8Michael RogersTeam HTC - Columbia
9Christian VandeveldeGarmin - Transitions
10Alexander VinokourovAstana

It looked like Kreuziger will win the race for a long time but then Le Mevel attacked early and rode solo over most mountains. In the end he was still strong enough to win the stage. In the next mountain stage Kreuziger couldn`t gain enough time on him. It was the best result for Le Mevel in his career. Vandevelde wasn`t in top form after his 3rd in the Giro.

Garmin squad 2011:
img18.imageshack.us/img18/7259/teamwo.jpg
Hesjedal will be our leader in his last race before the Tour de France. But he is just an underdog here against better climbers or at least timetrialers. Good for him that there is a mountain timetrial instead of a flat one next to the prologue.
Rojas Gil didn`t ride many races so far as he is focusing on the Vuelta later this season. But here he is our man for the sprints.
Lowe will be the last support for Hesjedal in the mountains, whereas the other riders are normal helpers and maybe they get a chance for a break.

Some riders of last years top 10 are here again. With Kreuziger, Wiggins, Brajkovic, Taaramäe, Monfort and Hesjedal there are probably the team leaders for the TdF here.
Best sprinters might be Boonen, Napolitano, Rojas, Cavendish, Greipel, Goss and Haedo.

Favourites

***** Kreuziger
**** Wiggins, Brajkovic
*** Monfort, Hesjedal, Porte
** Popovych, Fuglsang, Ten Dam, Gerdemann
* Velits, Machado, Arroyo, Kiryienka, Taaramäe

The first 3 are the biggest favourites by far. All 3 are great climber and great timetrialists.
But of course there are also some other riders like Coppel, Vinokourov, Martinez, Carrara or Moreno to get a good result.

We start with a prologue in Geneve. Next to the overall favourites Kreuziger, Brajkovic and Wiggins there are some prologue specialists here. Posthuma, Boonen or Lancaster have good chances for a nice result.
With Pate and Tuft we have two average riders for today, but like the rest of our squad they aren`t in top form here and just prepare for Le Tour.

img194.imageshack.us/img194/8662/pcm0013h.jpg
Can Danny Pate set a new best time? Although he is already 32 he increased a lot in timetrial over the last season. His time isn`t that bad but just 5th so far. Alex Rasmussen is leading the race at the moment.
9'53 (Rasmussen) & 10'05 (Pate)

Not sure who is Saxobank`s leader here. With Fuglsang and Porte they have two strong riders. The Danish champion is just 1s faster than Pate.
10'04

img543.imageshack.us/img543/1864/pcm0015.jpg
He could be the big surprise in this race. Jerome Coppel will lead Saur-Sojasun. It might be the best chance for him to show his talent as stage racer as they don`t have a wild card for the tour. A top 10 is possible. The U25 will be hard with Kreuziger as opponent. Nice time for him.
9'58

img59.imageshack.us/img59/3420/pcm0016.jpg
Gerdemann is also a good bet for a good result in France. Although they are one of the strongest Continental teams they won`t participate in the Tour, so he can go on his limit here in the knowledge of having a break in July. Not bad his time.
10'01

img718.imageshack.us/img718/6602/pcm0017v.jpg
Hesjedal isn`t known as great timetrialist. So he just needs to do as well as possible. His strenght will be the 3 mountain stages. His time could be better but more important to have a good form in July.
10'13

img121.imageshack.us/img121/1404/pcm0018.jpg
Brajkovic is another big favourite for the stage win and the overall. He will become RadioShack`s best stage racer soon and leads his squad here and maybe even this TdF. Great time by him. The lead at the moment.
9'44

img522.imageshack.us/img522/5497/pcm0019f.jpg
He surprised the whole world when he beated Martin and Cancellara in the Worlds. Richie Porte can`t win today. 14s slower than Brajkovic.
10'58

img6.imageshack.us/img6/5359/pcm0020.jpg
Maxime Monfort won`t be able to win the Tour as in other storys, but he might get a great result here or in other hard one week races. Same time than Porte.
10'58

img232.imageshack.us/img232/1959/pcm0021k.jpg
Can he dominate like Nibali did in the Giro? Liquigas really has two young and talented riders in their team. He rode very well. Same time than Brajkovic but 2nd place.
10'44

img522.imageshack.us/img522/9144/pcm0022.jpg
He is the best timetrialist here and also the best climber. But can he follow the younger riders?
His time is good but still 8s to them.
10'52

Brajkovic and Kreuziger showed a great race today. But also Wiggins, Monfort and Porte seem to be in a good shape. So these 5 might be the strongest here.
Our performance could have been better, Hope to get better results on the next stages.

Critérium du Dauphiné - Stage 2
Annemasse - Bourgoin-Jallieu
img843.imageshack.us/img843/1574/pcm0001.jpg
The first half is a bit hilly, the second totally flat except of some very little climbs. So we expect a day for the sprinter. Cavendish is by far the best sprinter here, but he already had a long season including the Giro. Same for Greipel and Goss. This could be Rojas` chance for a good result today.

img689.imageshack.us/img689/7416/pcm0002l.jpg
The first mountain sprint and those two are going for the KoM jersey obviously. Remy Di Gregorio was counted as a very big French talent for a good placement in the Tour de France, but except of some races he was never able to come up to the extreme expectations. The other rider is the Estonian Taaramae of the French Cofidis team.

img210.imageshack.us/img210/89/pcm0003.jpg
14 riders have attacked and are 3min ahead of the peloton now. There aren`t really big names in it, so they aren`t a big danger for the final classification but such a big group could go for the stage win.

img64.imageshack.us/img64/3654/pcm0004.jpg
So RadioShack is doing the work behind for their leader. The sprinter teams are still waiting or have a man in the group.

img52.imageshack.us/img52/4629/pcm0005.jpg
14km to the line the group was caught and now with 3km the sprint starts.
From left to right the trains: Gavazzi-Boonen-Rojas-Davis-Sutton, Goss-Cavendish-Mondory, Cofidis with Dumoulin and FDJ with Hutarovich. Greipel is quite far behind.

img440.imageshack.us/img440/4616/pcm0006e.jpg
Cavendish was quite exhausted after the Giro and so the two French sprinters Mondory and Dumoulin surprise the big favourites today. Boonen on 3 ahead of Rojas. Good result for us as he had already some problems on the last 10km. Greipel on 5 was one of the fastest but had to come from far behind. So maybe they should ride for him instead of Cavendish tomorrow.

Wow a 1-2 for France! Nice sprint with Rojas Gil while Columbia was really disappointing

roturn
Well Comlumbia is participating with their whole sprint train here so it is really disappointed. On the other hand all of them have already many racedays and rode the Giro. So they might be exhausted.
But so Mondory (76sp) and Dumoulin (75sp) dominated this stage.

Transfer News

06.live-radsport.ch/thumb_uc_11721_506_Ausreissersieg_fuer_Michele_Scarponi_bei_Giro-Ankunft_in_Oesterreich.jpg
Surprisingly the 2nd of this Giro, Michele Scarponi announced that he won`t renew his contract with Androni. Obviously he is looking for the chance to win the Giro in the next season and so he wants to join a bigger team with more helpers in the mountains.
Probably the fact that Androni was the weakest team with just 2 riders reaching Milano in the Giro plays a big role.

www.cyclingfans.com/alexandre_vinokourov_paris_nice_2006_visit.jpg
Nodody really knows what Alexandre Vinokourov is planning for next season. In some news it was written that he will retire after this season. Then yesterday there was the rumour that he renewed his contract with Astana. So lets see what he is doing in 2012.

images24.fotki.com/v874/photos/1/1292031/6425379/024Millar-vi.jpg
Also some news of our Garmin team. We had to think about it quite long. David Millar asked us for a new contract. At first we were the opinion that we need 3-4 free slots in our teams for younger talents. But in the end we decided to give him a one-year contract as he can still lead our younger riders through a race although his results might become less next season.

www.pezcyclingnews.com/photos/races09/tdf09/tdf09st14W-pate.jpg
Same for Danny Pate. The 32 year old American was improving very well this season and might be a big help in team timetrials and in hilly stages. He is also a rider who could have success in breakaways.

images39.fotki.com/v1282/photos/1/1292031/6541240/MichaelRogers-vi.jpg
Obviously Micheal Rogers convinced his Rabobank Team that he can be a good leader for the next 2 season. So they offered him a contract as team leader until 2013. He just had 21 race days so far but with the 13th in the Vuelta a Murcia and the mountain jersey in the Vuelta a Pais Vasco he has already good results.

I think we will get many more transfer news in the next 2-3 months.
I will post all Garmin news and the most important news of big transfers or renewals.

Critérium du Dauphiné - Stage 3
Bourgoin-Jallieu - Nyons
img708.imageshack.us/img708/5771/pcm0001s.jpg
This stage is somethin between a flat stage for sprinters and a hilly stage for attacks on the last climb and sprinters falling back there. Normally Rojas shouldn`t have problems with that hill but he is still not in a perfect shape.

img146.imageshack.us/img146/3162/pcm0002x.jpg
8 riders attacked and form the group of the day. One of them is Mikael Delage, surprising winner of this years Santos Tour Down Under.

img413.imageshack.us/img413/8307/pcm0003k.jpg
Liquigas and Astana are doing the pace. It could be a stage for Allan Davis or Maxim Iglinsky. We`ll see.

img545.imageshack.us/img545/3654/pcm0004.jpg
He looked quite strong yesterday. Will Rojas be able to get the first win of the season?

img401.imageshack.us/img401/4199/pcm0005v.jpg
On the final hill the group is caught. Just Morkov is still trying it alone but quite hopeless actually. It will come to a sprint. Unfortunately we tried to save energy with Rojas setting him on 75% and "dot", but it didn`t worked. He felt back a lot and couldn`t come to the front again on the very fast descent. So he will have to sprint from the 50th now ;(

img703.imageshack.us/img703/5720/pcm0006g.jpg
Again the two French sprinters in front, This time Dumoulin ahead of Mondory. Cavendish showed that he is still not totally exhausted with a 3rd. He was the fastest in the end and 100m further he would have won.
But it was Rojas with the greatest sprint. From the 2nd half of the field he sprinted on the 9th. I am quite sure that he would have been able to finish on the podium today but we choose the wrong tactic.

Comeon! This can not be true..again the French men!? At least Cav is on the podium

roturn
It`s a French race and they seem to be extremely motivated and in a great shape.
But actually Rojas and Cavendish were the fastest in the end. The 2 French men had just a gap to the other sprinters.

janne_837
The result  Typical PCM... At least a Top10 for Rojas, keep it up!

Critérium du Dauphiné - Stage 4
Vaison-La-Romaine - Mont-Serein
img707.imageshack.us/img707/5750/pcm0007o.jpg
This mountain timetrial onto the Mont Ventoux will mix the overall a lot. While the first 10km to the first checkpoint are still flat the second part is much harder. We have to climb parts with 13-15%.
According to PCM the biggest favourites are Wiggins, Kreuziger and Hesjedal, but we shouldn`t forget Brajkovic, who already showed a good shape in the prologue.

img836.imageshack.us/img836/522/pcm0008.jpg
After a weaker prologue Hesjedal has to ride as first of the favourites. But he already feels better after 3 days of racing. There are many spectators here, so it`s hard to ride by car. I hope Hesjedal can enjoy it a bit. A very good time.
First with about 30s faster than C.A. Sörensen.
57'20

img140.imageshack.us/img140/7236/pcm0009.jpg
Taaramae is also an interesting rider for hard one week races. But today he lost lots of time.
58'47

img137.imageshack.us/img137/7236/pcm0010.jpg
Same for Fuglsang. Obviously he is not in top form. As good climber and timetrialist you could do better otherwise.
58'41

img697.imageshack.us/img697/1009/pcm0011y.jpg
Gerdemann with a similar time than Taaramae. 3s slower.
58'50

img94.imageshack.us/img94/9976/pcm0012.jpg
Monfort also wasn`t able to beat Hesjedal`s time. It looks very good for us today.
58'26

Meanwhile Coppel and Martinez with great times. Still behind Hesjedal but ahead of Sörensen. You need`n`t have expected it.

img193.imageshack.us/img193/4956/pcm0013q.jpg
Can Porte beat his teammate? Well, better than Fuglsang but still 1s slower than Sörensen. But with 3 great climbers they might attack in the mountains.
57'56

img208.imageshack.us/img208/5994/pcm0014.jpg
Wiggins is the best climber in the field. Can he beat Hesjedal`s time?
Yes. He was 7s faster, so Ryder`s time can`t be that bad.
57'13

img138.imageshack.us/img138/1864/pcm0015.jpg
Brajkovic with a strong race. Although Wiggins` time was quite good the Slovenian is already behind him. So his time must be much better.
He rode really great and takes the first by far. Almost 2min faster than Hesjedal.
55'39

img338.imageshack.us/img338/6902/pcm0016l.jpg
Just Kreuziger can beat him now. In the prologue Brajkovic was a bit faster but Kreuziger is the better climber. He beats him by 5s.
55'34

So these two riders will probably ride for the overall, while Wiggins, Hesjedal, Martinez, Coppel and Porte... fight for the last podium. But as Le Mevel showed last year, there is always a chance for weaker climber to surprisethe big favourites. But nevertheless a great result for Hesjedal. Although he isn`t in such a good shape he was able to beat many good climbers.
