Ahh that sucks. Atleast Garmin isn't thrown into hell without 3 of their best riders.

Kuschinskiy's kit is the ugliest I've seen in many years.

Uglier than combination jersey?

You're kidding right?

First of all, the combination jersey RULES!

And he said "I've seen in many years".
When is the last time you say the combination jersey????

Terribly bad luck for Garmin Sad

Riding with an injured wrist is far from good for Farrar at cobbles today and in future sprints. I doubt he will be a threat for the green jersey now.

If you put yourselves in each of the riders position on yesterdays stage, you can understand all of their views.

There were oiled roads. Noone can blame the canons for wanting the GC decided in another way than a crash because of the road being in a condition it shouldn't. So from that point of view, I can see why the peleton made a statement in their way.

Still, from a Hushovd view, you saw early that Cavendish fell off, and Hushovd seemed strong being in front the whole race and also when the hilly part had begun. He could surely gain points from Cavendish and such as Petacchi on this stage. Everyone knows that. But he benefited from accidents on the first stage, so he should still be happy with his position considering the green jersey so far.

Still, is this where we're headed? This will not be the first time more than one big rider crashes at the same time. Is the peleton gonna stop riding everytime it happens in the future now? Bikehandling is also a skill in racing, and those who manages to stay up should be creditet for good positioning and control of their bike. (I know there are innocent crashes aswell by someone riding into you, but that's just bad luck and a part of every sport. Look at football, if someone slips during a penalty shootout and misses, he doesn't get a second try).

I just hope this was a one time thing because of the OIL, and not a common thing for the future.

Contador says that he was the one who gave orders to stop racing: "It was a crazy stage, and when I heard that A. Schleck was behind, I ordered the peloton to wait. Had it happened to me, I would have wanted them to do the same for me"

sorry but that is not completely true, I have read his words in Spanish and he said that he was the one who gave the order to stop his team, not the whole group. We all know this was done by Cancellara, with so many experience, the yellow jersey and of course the 2 most important riders of his team for the GC far behind.

My only doubt is if Contador would have been the one that fell down, do you think the group would have wait for him??? I really doubt it!!!

If he was the only one down, I guess not, like in any races but if many leaders were with him at the back I think they would've done the same.... I remind you that he did fell down, he just went back on his bike quicker than the Schlecks.

in sort of crash there is almost nothing to do with bike handeling skill

I know he was on the group with Amstrong, and I really think that falling down is part of this sport, I really do not understand why they did wait for them yesterday.
Now they have set a precedent, and if someone falls today or is cut because a fall in the cobbles what are they going to do?

I also have to say that the Schlecks are quite appreciated(as persons) in the peloton, and that really helps for what happened yesterday.

The only positive point for me is that Andy still alive for the GC and we will all enjoy his fights with Contador when the big days came!!

Of course there are crashes where going down is not possible to avoid, that's why I said that it's just pure bad luck to some as if the rider in front of you falls and you come with great speed from behind. Still there's lots of riders avoiding crashes by great bikehandling.

Well, if it's caused by someone pouring oil on the cobbles, probably what they did yesterday...otherwise, I'm guessing that unless it's a really massive crash, they'll carry on.

Apparently Menchov didn't go down in the crash - which does amaze me!

Personally, if the GC candidates wanted to sit up and wait for each other then that was fine, they are allowed to do that, but once they got into the last km the sprint trains should have gone for the points - lets face it, it was a straight and flat finish!

Christer
There was a motor bike which crashed between Chavanel and the peloton. That's where the oil came from.

At least some say it was a motor bike crash...
