Yeah I really thought it would be a tour without any crashes but in the last stage the dream crashed
Nice play on words there! |

Here we go with the first of three Ardenne classics! The Amstel Gold Race is an amazing race but it´s also really hard especially the last climbs and kilometres.
Our team for this first one-day classic this week is one of the best we could send to the Netherlands.Team-captian will be Michael Albasini who rode a great Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco! With Peter Velits he will get a great help in the last part of the race.We will see if Albasini can get a good result there but our goal is at least a top 15 position.I think that must be possible when we think about Albasini´s performance in Spain
Team Columbia for the Amstel Gold Race
Peter Velits
Martin Velits
Michael Albasini
Hayden Roulston
Craig Lewis
Marco Pinotti
Vicente Reynes

Ok here we go!250 kilometres full of action and hard uphill sections
There were some escapes but they couldn´t get a big gap to the pack and so they were brought back with more than 30 kilometres to go
With more than 28 kilometres to go Fränk Schleck was the first one making a move
Albasini tried to go after him but he was caught very soon
Short time later Nibali tried his luck
On the downhill many riders made a move such as Ivanov and......
......Gesink
Wegmann and Pineau went after them while Albasini were still in the pack
But only a few moments later Voigt and Albasini were attacking, too
It was a festival of moves now!Next one was Gilbert
Rodriguez and Andy Schleck were big favorites for today and they started their attack just a few seconds after Gilbert
With only 8 kilometres to go Rodriguez was in front on the last downhill section
Behind him was a small group of 4 riders with Cunego,Gilbert,Ivanov and Nibali
40 seconds after them came a second chasing group of Rodriguez with Albasini,Kirchen,Gesink and Fränk Schleck
Valverde leaded the next group that means he was more than a minute behind the leader Rodriguez; No chances for Valverde today
Ivanov and Nibali couldn´t keep it up with Cunego,Gilbert and Rodriguez
After Rodriguez was caught by Cunego and Gilbert, the Belgian started an attack with only 2 kilometres to go!
Last 700 metres for Gilbert!Looks like Cunego and Rodriguez were beaten on the last metres today!
On the last metres Cunego almost reached Gilbert in the sprint! Can Gilbert defend his advantage?
Yes he can! That´s it for Gilbert,he takes the first big one-day classic this week in front of Cunego
Rodriguez won the sprint against Ivanov who came really fast on the last metres!
Albasini came with the first bigger group. He became 13th in the end while Valverde could get the 6th position after an amazing sprint!Good result for us but I think Albasini can reach more than this, maybe in the next race?
