Aveiro - Gondomar
another flat stage..strong wind today. Plaza need to be careful and keep himself near to the peak...
..and we have a split..11km. to go..Plaza and Ribeiro both in first group..
GC 2nd, Golcer in trouble..he was not ready for split..he is in second group and a little panic...
Just before the sprint..Gorka Izagirre trying to sneak away,..succesful one so far..
1km to go..Izagirre was so close..but now sprinters took it over..Aleksejs Saramotins and Ilesic coming..
..then Pinto..Herrero..Eloy Teruel..Tombak

We are coming back to mountains..todays warm up is 5km climb at the end and mountain top finish.
Hugh breakaway group get away early..Liberty dont need to be worrie dabout. Best rider in that group is over 13 min down at the GC..
Xacobeo - Galicia and Rabobank pulling the main group they are not happy about this situation..
Breakaway group has started a final climb..they will survive. Spilak atacking first away from main group..
Then Geschke follows..
..Plaza,,
at the front breakaway riders has started final kick..Mauro Santambrogio, Bernucci, Martinez.
Mauro Santambrogio is stage winner today..what is happening behind?
Here comes best young rider Geschke and Plaza..Golcer is not there..Ribeiro is not there. Plaza will gain more time..

Most hated profile type for me..many favorites will atack in flat..and this is non stop show..atack..after atack.
even wore 45km. to go and Herrero atack..on the final uphill section
Etzarri and Geschke going after him..
Then another top ten rider Clement..
Geschke has cought Herrero..and he kep on riding with agressive style..atack again.
Panic in main group..LPR and Liberty working hard at the front..but gap is just not going down..
Golcer has decided that this situation is already to dangerous..atack..Plaza follows.
Plaza has left Golcer behind..and he keep on going...under 10km. to go..
5km to go..Plaza has passed Herrero and next target is Geschke now..
1km sign at the sight..and here is Geschke..another Skil rider enters the game..who?

and sprint..they passing Geschke at the both side..
Steve Houanard was fastest today..Geschke is now GC 2nd ..and Ribeiro is out at the podium..

how approximate values of daily form are you facing in stages? I mean sprinters in flat stages and leaders in mountains/time trials, when they have 80+ condition? |

80+ guy is able to win..and keep up. Yep I monitor this.. (it is real important in mountains and specialy with TT)
Some times top riders need to race..even if they are around 60...race is best place..to get guy into form.
Stage 8
Fafe - Mondim de Basto
Final chanche for climbers before final TT.. I am almost shure that Plaza got this tour..but there close competition who will be 2nd..3rd.
45km to go..Liberty pressure..Broco to the front and all out..to avoid atacks..
19,5 km to go..there can not be worse timing for crash. Clement is down..there go's he's top 10 spot..
15,1km to go.,.Spilak atacking first..
..then Geschke again..he as atacked on every stage..
Then Herrero, Andre Cardoso..Plaza
Lead group after first atack wave..Herrero, Cardoso..Plaza ..Plaza is just waiting. He wont need to atack..
Spilak and Javier Etxarri getting back..
..and here comes Geschke..

I was already worried..there is Ribeiro..he wont need to help Plaza today. Just trying to keep he's podium dreams alive.
Javier Etxarri to the front..he has been Portugal tour one of the best climbers..Tempo is fast..Ribeiro in trouble..
Final km. and sprint..3 riders are clearly strongest Andre Cardoso, Etxarri and Plaza..
..at the end Andre Cardoso is fastest in final 100m..deserved stage win.
..not bad Ribeiro..5th today. But this also means that he is now 5th in the GC..3rd. place is 15 sec. away..

Nice long TT for final..Plaza is out of reach..he is one favorite today..but other podium places are open.

Dempster will set first fast time to beat..at the end he is 12th. ..and +2'00 down

and then started Rabobank show..they have so many good TT riders in the list. But they have been hiding so far..they are here for this TT? Flens is first...9. (+1' 44)..
..then Ten Dam (why he was not with climbers at mountain stages ?) 15. (+ 2'17)

To remind you that I have Portugal TT champ. Broco in the squad..today..43. (+3'30)
Clement..fastest man today. Stage winner..without that crash few days ago ..he had been much higher in GC.
Steve Houanard 3rd today (+52 sec.) slower..
..and ten top riders..Herrero 7th. (+1'29). This is realy good time..and even cen help him to the podium.
Ribeiro is giving max. 11th. (+1'56)..compared to Herrero he is now..4 sec. down. Damn! There go's podium..
Golcer 17. (+2'28) there go's he's chanches..he started a tour as plaza main rival..but was faiding badly at the end.
Javier Etxarri was taking over Golcer role at the mountain stages and was nice 3rd. before TT He and we knew before that TT is not he's favorite terrain..so 57. (4'06)...
Geschke..Volta Portugal young superstar he has atacked on every stage..8th time. (+1'40)
and he is still GC 2nd. deserved one
Plaza ..2nd today..(+27 sec.) behind..he has been just impressive. Great in the mountains ..defending well jersey after that. No we should hope great Vuelta..

Love your stories Guido and I love Liberty Seguros as well, they were the first team that I made it through a whole season of a career without getting bored! Been my team ever since and I was pretty bummed to hear about Nozal, Ribero and whomever the last dope head was. Guerra?
