OR what some riders have been telling us is happening this season is actually happening.
disregard the yellow, look at the rest...Hushovd wins the stage, Kirchen is in green and Voeckler is in red and white. what does that say?
hint: it's a good thing

I want McEwen to get that 13th syage win so he passes Zabel
Is it just me or is the sprints this year made more for the hilly sprinters? |

Indeed they are... the ASO felt that what had evolved into the norms of the race the last couple of years had made the race... well, boring and predictable. So they removed the prologue, the time bonuses, and included less typical sprint stages (aka incredibly boring stages all the way untill the 10km-line), hoping that this would be a success. |

Proper sprinter stage. The favourites have to be Cavendish, Freire and who knows whether McEwen will be able to do anything. Also it's a chance for Steegmans to show he is better than Boonen

Freire - Out of shape, always a gamble if he's in shape because he doesn't follow a training program or have a personal trainer. He doesn't even ride in rain.
McEwen - Too old.
Steegmans - Hype, got lucky once.
Hushovd - Seems to have hit his stride
Cavendish - The fastest sprinter in the world.
I think it will be a battle between Hushovd and Cavendish. Maybe Ciolek or Hunter/Cooke can challenge them on some stages.

The only problem for Cavendish is that the stage is 208kms long and although he will get over the hills, they will still tire him out more than most of the other sprinters. I think you underestimate Steegmans, he has never had the chance to be the main sprinter, he has always been the lead-out man. He is actually very fast, and one of the main reasons why Boonen wins when he does.
btw, I hate Boonen so I will always give credit to everyone for his win, but him

What are Kirchen's chances of winning the green jersey?
He should get some points in the mountain stages... if he can get top 10 finishes on the flat stages and mountain stages and top 5's on the hilly-ish finishes like the past couple of days... would that do it? It doesn't seem like there are more than 5-7 true sprint stages in this year's tour. |

There aren't many "pure" sprinter stages though and Hunter isn't good enough in the hills to finish well. That's why I among others am tending to lean towards a non-sprinter for the green-jersey this year.
I do hope Hunter wins the green jersey, or even just wears it for a short while But it's very unlikely with the course this year.
However I do like the fact that you didn't tip Hincapie for green
