Great stage, even more so because I think/hope no-one was seriously injured.
Greipel got it spot on with a great win after Lotto were prepared to drive it at times despite having less man power (they sat on later but fair enough). Ride of the day for me was still Sagan - driving the front group for Contador, getting back on after a puncture then still a very close second - kudos. He looks in top shape.
Renshaw (600m?)then Cav (300m?) way too early after some great teamwork all day. Cancellara alive and opportunistic to the end. Feel for Martin but then it's not like he hasn't enjoyed an amazing career so far with plenty more to come, no doubt. |

Get out of here , one of the better week one Tour de France stages in recent memory. Most of the time gaps were established through legitimate hard work and no one had to retire from the race due to injury.
There is a slight problem though. Stages like the one today are the main cause for the nasty crashes in the first week. You can be sure that from tomorrow all team leaders and all their helpers will try to ride in the front of the peloton...
... and boom. |

What are you on about? This is GT racing, they are meant to be difficult and anyway how is the race destroyed?
I dont want to see GC riders lose the GC on some stupid rainy day in Holland, if I liked this kind of racing I would watch other races. I want all the GC guys to be close at the start of the mountains to fight it out there, not fight it out on a flat stage. With this kind of stage, as it turned out, most of GC riders lost the GC today. No way most of them are coming back. 1.30+ on Froome, forget about coming back. It just not happening. Its like peeing in your pants, it feels warm now, but its gonna stin until you get a shower and change.

hahahaha you guys make me laugh. Winning Grand Tour means dealing with all kinds of terrain and conditions. Flat, Cobbles, Hills, Wind, Snow, Hail, Fucking Tsunami. All counts the same as climbing. |

Oh, I see... You want this to be the ultimate wattage challenge. Let's play the game - who can get the biggest wattage in mountains, that wins the yellow jersey.

There's this brilliant invention to satisfy your needs - it's called king of the mountains classification.
This is a 3 week race, so every stage should count, no matter what's the terrain or weather.
p.s. That analogy about pissing is one of the dumbest things I have ever read.

BTW Contador lost 4 more seconds to Froome. He is now 12 seconds down. Rookie mistake not expected from him, let gap open towards end. Or just suffering already maybe.
His face looked like suffering much. |

I knew Greipel would win after watching the tour the past few years. I just had a hunch that he would come across with the win
I wish I would have bet more though!

I understand where he is coming from tho. If you simply do not like spring racing, and just wanna watch them go at it at the mountains and ITT's, thats completely fine. Myself, I quite enjoyed today for sure, and will enjoy the next couple of days as well, but there is no doubt that I prefer the mountains ALOT more than rainy roads in Belgium, NL and Northern France, simply due to me enjoying riders riding in mountains much more, but also the randomness (to some extent) that is connected to ride here.
I dont like those kinda stages to feature every year, but they are certainly much more interesting than 'normal' sprint stages. The race is on, not just for the strong men and the sprinters, but basically everyone. I like that

I think this probably reveals more about you than anything else
Good racing today, awaiting Nibali to go hard on the cobbles.

Days like this is and should be part of the Tour IMO. Still I'm annoyed that Nibali lost this much time due to Bouhanni crashing a hole in the peloton.
Nevertheless Nibali on backhand means that no one knows when he'll try getting the time back...

You're taking the Andy Schleck-route, I see. I guess it's not ment to be in anyway decided on cobbles or downhills either? This is a three week race, the whole point is to see who is the best rider in a race where anything can happen.
To win a race like the Tour, Giro or the Vuelta (or one-week races too, for that matter) you need a little bit of everything; power on flats, bike handling in the rain, control over cobbles, strategic thinking during echelons, stamina in climbs, and alot of luck.
Sadly some people think that's a load of hooey and only want to see people going uphill. You don't want to see the best GC-rider; you want to see the best climber.

What a great stage!! Considering the bad weather, there were only a few crashes. Unfortunately, Kelderman lost valuable time, but he can g for a stage win now. Heard about Bouhanni trying to overtake some others in a roundabout and crashing, causing a split between group 1 and peloton (Fuglsang mentioned this).
I hope tomorrow will be great as well, but with the finish at theMur of Huy, I think it'll be the same as the Fleche Wallonne: boring, untill 500m to go....

Amazing stage. Utterly compelling. Probably more interesting than any of the classics this year - constant tension and with a (slight) surprise finish, but must've been absolutely horrible to ride.
I don't agree that it's wrong to have this sort of stage separating the GC - the clue is in the name of General Classification (General) - its meant to be a test of all round cycling skill. Although I'd like to see a showdown between the big cats in the mountains, perhaps it will help animate the mountain stages if some of the top riders have to go on the attack to pull time back.
It was a brutal race without quite as much risk as having lots of wet pave.
You might well think tomorrow will be a straight up drive to the Muur before the contenders are unleashed, but Dave Millar on British TV seemed a bit concerned about the run into the climb and the chaos that might ensue. We'll see! |

seems like you can not beat a nature and natural healing process..
he was nervous there all day uncomfordable..waving to team cars..causing crash.
Stay home ..get better come back. He will abandon this tour probably anyway. |

Hm, don't think so. It was a great stage but this year's Gent-Wevelgem was easily one of the best races of all-time.
