Another win for Vliegen who's in great form recently. Mühlberger takes the GC.

Mühlberger wins GP Judendorf-Strassengel with quite a margin. Another great win for the Austrian, who recently won the Course de la Paix.

Gregor Mühlberger shows himself again. This time he won the last stage and the GC in the Oberösterreich-Rundfahrt.
Young Frenchman Léo Vincent wins the last stage in the Tour des Pays de Savoie. On the mountaintop finish of Valmeinier he finished in front of David Belda. In this race we also see young Dutch rider Sam Oomen take the 2nd spot in the GC, behind the Spanish climber Belda.

He's really on some great form and getting lots of nice results. There are some nice talents currently in Austria, ranging from Preidler over Konrad and so on, but Mühlberger could be the one who really makes a huge impact one day.

Are there any other Austrian or Swiss talents that you think might be about to make a breakthrough? It seems to help when I sign them for my Man Game team then loan them out, or at least it's worked for Kung and Muhlberger, and Zoidl had a great season the season I loaned him out aswell.

Anybody know Simon Andreasen? 17 year old MTB-talent who basically sweeps every race and raced against the best pros, finishing 6 in a race won by Nino Schurter. Seems that everybody has nothing but high praise, including former MTB stars Michael Rasmussen and Fuglsang, Rasmussen even saying he has a got a good shot at the Tour. I didnt even know his name before reading the article, I was just curious if some of you guys who are following U-23 and MTB know him? |

Uhm, I really not that into the U23 scene to know anything about secret talents. From the looks of it, Großschartner seems to be a rather solid talent as well, but I reckon guys like Alak or Willier can share more light on that matter.
I imagine if there's going to be one day an Austrian Grand Tour winner (maybe Konrad, I don't know), there could follow a huge boom with lots of talents, since cycling as a sport is particularly popular here in Austria as a sport itself despite it being far, far away from a mainstream media sport, but yeah, until that happens...

Apart from Küng there's also Tom Bohli and Lukas Spengler from the BMC development team. Lukas Spengler won Paris - Roubaix u23. Bohli won the prologue of the Tour de Normandie (2.2) and he won the Berner Rundfahrt (1.2). Also finished 2nd in the TT of Olympia's Toer (2.2).
Grossschartner won the trofeo Piva, beating some well known u23 riders like Moscon, Vliegen, Geoghegan, Petilli, Herklotz, De Plus and Power.

I feel like German cycling in 5-10 years will look very similar to today. Bauhaus will take over the sprints and be the next Kittel. Kämna (or some other TT talent) will take over TT domination and Herklotz will take over the disappointing-GC-dude-role from Nerz...
It just seems so boring, that we can all expect an exact copy from today |

Spaking of Spain in talent-trouble I think the results from the Spanish U23 NC says a lot about the situation:
Only one rider taking part in the race is on a UCI-registred team - not a lot for a country of Spains size.

I don't think that is really a problem. In France and Italy (or even Belgium) they are not much more. These nation have a different system from most of north european countries where almost all the best young riders are on continental level. In France and Italy there are u23 teams that are stronger than most of continental teams.
Situation in Spain now is not that bad as some people say. Races and teams are obviously less than a few years ago but there are still some really good talents
If you are looking for more results of amateur/under23 https://firstcycli.../index.php is a better website

I'm going to be at the German U23 road race today as it's just a couple dozen kilometres from here.
The course has a significant hill right at the start, but the lap ends with 15 flat km so anything's possible.
Favourites should include Kämna/Herklotz, Nico Denz, Jan Brockhoff or Jan Dieteren if the course is selective enough, decent sprinters are Walscheid, Willwohl, Ackermann, Porzner and Jonas Koch as well as the Juniors WC Bokeloh.
