What a joke. Incredible what is legal in Spain.
Also for god sake don't give Madrid the OL in 2020.
They cover up doping and they have no money. Perfect choice.
Who are the other candidates btw?
Baku, Tokyo, Doha and Istanbul.
Uh, Doha and Baku were ruled out of the running roughly a year ago
Thank god. That would mean to much shenanigans about the regional climate and it just doesn't make sense to award a country like that everything like FIFA did just because of their petrodollars...
Anyway on other news, this guy just won the "asshole of the year" award: https://www.dailym...YAKqErJLts

That's a shocking video. I hope that the cyclists were OK after treatment as the first one hit the ground really hard. |

Lets hope the biker isn't.

Spanish anti-doping agency appeals against the destruction of the Puerto bags. They want to DNA test them

No offence to any Spaniards on this site, but when it comes to doping Spain absolutely zero credibility in my book. Destroying the evidence before we find out who the football and tennis players are is just mind boggling to say the least.
Mads Kaggestad blew of some steam yesterday by saing that Spain should be banned from all sports untill they take a serious stance against doping.

I wouldn't generalise on any Spanish person, we've got enough of them here to prove (if that was ever needed) that they're not all the same, even regarding doping matters.
I even believe the Spanish antidoping agency are sincere when they want to appeal the verdict, but there's just too much pressure or lobbying from powerful brands or people who know what kind of scandal would happen if those bags were analyzed (although 7 years later, half of the involved sportsmen and women are probably retired).
Now, regarding Spanish justice, I can understand that they are or weren't there to trial doping but public health, so why on Earth (except for the sake of Justice, but who cares about such a futility ?) would they give blood bags to whoever for testing. They don't have to. |

Petacchi going to EPQS is a no-go. UCI rejected, not wanting to start a precedent of old riders retiring and then signing other teams for some WT points. |

Good decision, this would be a Lampre fuck-up if it was made possible.
It it was allowed, anybody in the team he does not like could retire and sign immediately with another team, old or not...

I regret to announce the death of a rider. Belgian rider Wouter Dewilde (34) didn't survive the injuries he got when he fell right after the line in the Kermiskoers van Veldegem (elites without a contract), he became third.
A local doctor succeeded to reanimate him, but he died yesterday evening in a hospital in Brughes. The Royal Belgian Cyclingbond offers their condolences to his wife, family and friends. |

Some interesting news out of the BBC today, apparently Wiggins is the Olympic Road Race Champion...
They genuinely wrote that! I couldn't find a facepalm big enough...

BBC and Sky sports love Wiggins and Sky for obvious reasons, but it becomes rather nausiating that they talk only about those two topics all the time... |

No Wildcard invitation for IAM Cycling to La Vuelta 2013 it seems, with the three wildcard spots given to Team NetApp-Endura, Cofidis and Caja Rural. |

Are there any statistics that shows the amount of deaths during a race up through the years? Perhaps something showing the pre-helmet days compared to now.
Edit: Regarding Spain and it's somewhat... strained relationship with doping, what do you think is needed for them to really take a stance? As I mentioned earlier, Kaggestad called for an international ban on all spanish athletes from participation in international competitions. Now this is never going to happen, naturally, but what do you think would be the consequences if major athletes refused to participate in competitions held on spanish soil?
What would be the consequences if sveral of the biggst names in cycling went for a boicot of the Vuelta? Extremely hypothetical, but one can dream.

Why would riders boycott Vuelta? I think majority of them is happy for covering up the doping, rather than celebrating the steps of catching dopers. Many of them still think Armstrong did nothing wrong...

Zdenek Stybar has undergone a knee surgery recently, because of inflammation in it. He will have to rest for two or three weeks completely. He had a problems with it for two months, so this will fix it hopefully.
