I know i am not a member (yet?), but i have been reading through some of the threads about the game because i find it kind of interesting, and i have a suggestion that seems kind of logical from my POW.
In the Tour of America, the weakest team got more points than the best teams in a lot of other races. This comes from the fact that only 5 teams were registered. My suggestion is some sort of extra points for the number of teams in the race. For example: Team 1 gets 60 points from a race with 12 teams. The points is then multiplied with 12/1.2/whatever makes it most balanced. This is the points that is finally put into the league standing. I am not sure of exactly how much the point boost should be, and if it should be balanced or grouped. If it is done the right way, it would at least stop a problem i feel some people has been complaining about, with teams not being able to get a lot of points from races no one cared about.
You overlook the key point that the Tour of America cost 21 race days. Of course its going to give more ranking points than races costing less than that!
Sure, i know that, but i also saw people in this thread complaining about some race for this reason and it just made sense to me.
And for an extreme example. If a Continential HC one dayrace only had two teams and your team would get positions from 9-16 you would get 145 points. If you won a race with 20 teams, and got everyone else in places from 31 and down you would actually get only 140. When i now saw how the points were given out i see that in Stage Races it doesn't make that much difference since only 5 people get points per stage, but in on day races it seems like it should.
The difference is also about the same in Continential C1 where 9-16 gives 83 and 1. give 80.
A HC race wouldnt have only 2 teams. The HC race selection process is specifically designed so that the HC races are the races with the most teams in them, hence why they give more points.
Everybody chooses how to spend their race days, part of the skill can be to go for races where you dont think other teams will go. In reality, if you end up in a race with few competitors, you've just got lucky - but if you have good enough riders there, you can benefit nicely. Its part of how important race selection and then subsequent rider per pace selection, is - and you dont find out how many other teams entered a race until after you have any chance to change your lineup.
Youre right that some had issues with races with few teams - but my interpretation was that this is because of the poor gameplay it can often lead to. And Tour of America did show that to an extent, in terms of lack of breakaway attacks.
But I really dont see it as an issue. On average last season, there were 12.4 teams in each Continental race - and I fully expect that average to increase this season.
For a start, while the race calendar will remain at a similar amount of race days overall (~360), I intend to increase the allowance that each team gets - it has been at 150 for the past 3 seasons, and back in the 2009 season, there was only around 250 race days to choose from - so the increase is needed. It tests the strength in depth of continental teams a bit more - and anyway, a lot of CT teams last year had riders with a lot of spare race days, and nowhere to use them.
And besides, I dont like the idea of taking the ranking points earnt from races, and manipulating them with some sort of generic formula. At the end of the day, the teams with the best results will promote, and that seems fair to me.
talking about riders, I think Christer Rake should be upgraded a bit. I haven't seen him alot myself, but he won Ringerike Grand Prix 2010, and is seen as the biggest talent in Norway (as far as I've heard). Bigger than Haavardsholm foe example. I'm not talking about him being a big talent compared to the great talents around in europe, but might be an idea to have him with the potenial to reach 73 or something in mountain/hill.
I think it's absolutely ok to edit free agents in the DB.
And, I have quite similar request as mb, would it be possible to add some Czechs and Slovaks, who could be competive some day? I love the idea to do my team Czechoslovakian.. Also, I can give some names and info about some riders from CZ/SK if it is possible.

Looks like Sagan and Peter Velits are going free, but yes. Rider names, DOBs and specialisations are the bare minimum - DOBs from 1990 to 1993.

Good climber, especially in the hills - the only domestic rider who went with the Sky lads in the break at the nationals
Irelands best domestic rider last year, won races in both Ireland and Belgium and came second behind Chris Newton in the Lincoln GP. Generally very strong rider and is fine on the hills.

Really good all round rider - National cross champ last year, won Prologue of the Cinturon Mallorca, 2nd on the Tour of Britain's toughest stage and sprinted to Crit wins.
You're a plank wacko. I added all those Brits over 2 months ago. Lavery, meh, no one cares about.
EDIT: And by all those Brits, I mean like ALL the Brits on CQ who were aged 23 or younger. And more besides those.
