I disagree. he's a more than adequate Vuelta captain. want a new Tour captain? fine.
but don't diminish his achievements. not many people can be on form in two consecutive three-week races. no matter which way you slice it, it's very impressive.
you seem to have the feeling that he can't win a grand tour. but take out Valverde and the Astana boys from last year's Vuelta and who's left? Sastre.

we belgians own.
devolder is going to win this vuelta.if he keeps his feet on the ground.
and i don't think that csc needs to get a new gc captian. sastre almost always rides top 5 in gc's. not everybody can do that. look at evans he was second in the tour but now and sastre was fifth in think now sastre owns evans in the mountains and in time trials evans isn't that super much better than sastre like he was in the tour. |

don't worry, that won't be a problem
his fans however seem to have thrown that out the window. an example:

I don't know if either Sastre and Evans are up to the task. They're pros, but 2 Grand Tours is just too much to cope. |

Sastre still has a shot at this Vuelta GC. He is way too small to compete in the TT's - but we knew that before the Vuelta started! Add to that the fact that Carlitos always improves in the last two weeks of a Grand Tour - he will be able to put in some serious DAMAGE on the other GC contenders. At least that's my bid.
And Devolder won't win the Vuelta... If the two last weeks were ridden in the Wallonie hills he'd have a nice chance - I'd fancy him actually. In the Spanish mountains? No way. |

last year he had to wait for brajkovic which costed him a top 10 spot and this year he has improved
i'm not saying he will win all mountain stages but he has a good chance of winning the vuelta. i think piepoli and sastre are the strongest in th mountains but they lost and will lose much time on devolder in the upcoming time trial

Ok..you tell me that Sastre is usless..he did'nt have won any grandt tour..but hey who has...
2006
Giro - Basso
TdF - Landis
Vuelta - Vinokurov
2007
Giro - Di Luca
TdF - Contador..
Isnt that realy terrible list..what we all know and might know about those so called winners. If you like to see young A.Schleck already in king cheer..then you have to wait few more years. thank good CSC owns Riis..who probably dont but for young guy so much pressure.
And Vuelta isnt over...Sastre have 2'30 to Menchov..lets decide after tomorrow stage. |

Pereiro dropped out. after 50km he was already 10mins behind......on the flat...
same goes for Arkaitz DurĂ¡n and Francesco Chicchi (insert speedbump joke)
EDIT: also, Vande Velde seems okay. he's in the break.

Marchante is in the break. he might very well win this.

Marchante is screwed. he was in the break and now he's been caught.
this climb doesn't seem hard enough to make real differences, but since Sastre has to attack, there might very well be some.
the inclines are never very steep, so they're good for Menchov.
