Big time time trial performance and a great result for us with Wilco winning Sochi. Seeing Quintana win is great, seeing it in other colours hurts a lot.

Oh well. My riders actually are getting into successful breakaways as Gradek comes 2nd on final stage in Sochi. Sochi which is one of like half races where my team can do nothing except fill the peloton with orange jerseys, lol
At least he scored valuable points into WT rankings hoping my team won't relegate. |

Sadly, unlike Kelderman, Majka had a terrible ITT, 34th. It would have been our first ever WT stage race, but sorry, guys, we couldn't stop almight Argos. Still, another very good focus race. Majka 2nd in the KOM ranking, too, plus Cano with a really good performance, 14th and 2nd in the U25 ranking, plus a stage win - our 6th WT win of the season, we've already doubled our total from last season.

I can't be happy with Schulze being ahead of Herklotz in a prologue and Auer being ahead of Herklotz in a hilly sprint stage. His versatility hasn't necessarily been on display yet this season.
Still, winning all three remaining stages would be enough for the points jersey, that is still the bonus goal next to deciding the first Herklotz vs Nerz battle of the season in our favor.
Stage 4 demands great positioning, stage 5 hopefully sees Auer protect Herklotz long enough to prevail, and the mountain TT just needs the +1mo to take effect.
(I know how this mindset makes me sound, but I sacrificed a pretty safe promotion spot for his training, so it needs to pay off for him personally)

Chamorro finally got a great result in California after his unfortunate crash on the final stage of Tachira. Although he was the strongest pure climber, 3rd is more than I expected due to his rather low energy stats.
And of course, Colombia Team GP was fantastic, getting 2nd in our second focus race kind of makes up for a dysmal San Luis.
Romandie saw a good start from Gomez, it was definitely good to send several TT guys, given the usual randomness. Now wait and see what he can do on the decisive stages.
In general, I find Gonzalez really impressive, punching above his weight what Zabel stays below. On the other hand, the cobbles were absolutely horrible; Romero didn't even seem to be trying to get a result - he's doing much better on the hills so far, despite -3 compared to Cob... Don't quite understand PCM15 yet, I guess.

Been frustrated with this fat pig for more than 3 seasons, minor cobble guys are just useless sadly when they don't have a stronger rider to support.

Yes that sucks to lose it to random TT. Grupo had a lot of bad luck in previous seasons though, guess Croatia is getting a bit good luck this season in turn seeing the stage race performances and LBL.

Sochi not ending too well for us, Jungels had a terrible TT and Caruso wasn't very good either. So in the end these few seconds he lost in the TTT came back to bite him in the ass.
Our first home race of the year in Romandie is actually starting really well, with Erdin doing amazingly in the sprints so far. Hopefully both of our teams will go into the attacks on the remaining stages.

So quite the emotional roller coaster for me catching up on the reports (didn't get a chance to watch the videos). Mullen finally putting in a decent TT and then Mihaylov finishing 5th on the last stage at Sochi provided some initial relief from our recent gloom.
Then real excitement as Nairo goes crazy in the first week at the Giro and wins not 1,not 2, but 3 stages. Plus 4th in what appears to be a field sprint!. Big smile.
After stage 5 I notice that Henao is missing and figure out he must have crashed out - uh oh, there goes my only decent support rider and any chance at depth points. Can't we all stay on our bikes during our focus races???? (4 so far and 3 of them have had a crash by a major rider). Worry creeping in.
Then stage 6 - clearly a bad day. But the fact it followed losing Henao makes me worry it isn't just that, but that a lack of support is part of the problem. So not quite back to gloom, but that is a major grey lining in the silver cloud.
Going to try and hang on to the high of our first WT stage wins and hope being out of the jersey will reduce the pressure on the team. Plenty of time to get that time back.
Thanks for all the reports.

Thanks Shonak and dominox!
Very pleased with Boily's stage win in Sochi. Nibali unfortunately with a very bad start to the giro. The podium is probably already impossible and the 4 guys ahead out of reach. |

Thank you, but really it's fine, I'm a pessimist so I fully expected it. It was still a very good focus race, I'm very pleased with Cano Gonzalez - can't wait to see which Orangina talent I'll be allowed pick up next season!
Wow, another KBC crash. I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of support for Quintana. Herrada attacked very early on stage 6 and that exposed a bad daily form. Nibali must have had a -5, he tried to follow the attack but immediately fell back and in the end couldn't even keep up with the MO 77 riders in Tao's group.

Another top 10 stage finish, this time in the mountainous one of California, Diego Ochoa finishing 7th. A little too late for him, but at least he heard the wake up call.
Initially I put California as one of our focus races, but because we had 4 stage races and only 1 one day race in our focus I switched it. It would have been a good race, but I am pleased nonetheless. Julian Aredondo finished 8th in the GC and our team made its presence felt, top 10 in 7 of the 8 stages and we ended up 3rd in the teams classification. I believe it went quite well since we have to settle with every positive result we can get this season. |

Did not come to the Giro with many expectations. Lambert is looking good for a top 20 and runner-up in U25, and Daniel does well in the sprints. Any point from here is welcome.

Same thing for me I guess, with Kreuziger beating Nerz
Decent sprint by Robert, best of the season with a second place in stage 2

Look, you can have the GC, but I would prefer if you leave some crumbs for Nerz as well

Arndt was right behind Ewan twice, but both times the CCC train didn't work that well. No idea what happened on stages 11 and 12, though, on stage 11 he was 109th out of 110 riders in the peloton and stage 12 wasn't any better.
Tao showed his hill weakness, stage 8 was really bad. He dropped to 13th, just ahead of Ruben, but didn't lose much time against his U25 competition.

It is completely beyond me how Barguil won that time trial when Herrada has superior TT and HL stats Anyway, Herrada got Maglia Rosa the next day but the TT randomness continues to be an issue. Navarro DNF is even worse. By far our most important helper in the mountains.. That leaves both Quintana and Herrada with less support now.

Romandie S4-S6 posted. Big question on everyone's mind, will Cio be satisfied?

Classic TT randomness, lol
Holy smokes, Herklotz went wild on that 5th stage. |
