This is the testing grounds for the tour of 2008. We'll be using it to fine tune our fitness, and see what the other favorites for the tour can do. It's not our final toursquad we've selected here, some of it will race in the tour de suisse also.
Either Mikel or Igor will have to help Sammy in the tour. They're both really tired but he needs someone to guard him. And i think it will end up being Mikel, as he is probably the most tired. But he squeeze in the tour i reckon. If we ride the tour with Anton, he wont have enough fitness to ride a good Vuelta at the end of the season. And the vuelta is out of the question for Mikel anyways.

Stage 1 is an 8km prologue. It'll be our first look at some of the big competition for the tour. One of the early riders out is Dave Zabriskie of Slipstream. He rides the 8km in 8'37... that is one hell of a time.
img244.imageshack.us/img244/7678/pcm0002vi7.jpg

Rogers crosses the line 13 seconds slower than DZ.
img505.imageshack.us/img505/8232/pcm0004fx7.jpg

Here's one of the main contenders for the tour this year. Maybe he will be tied down helping Contador though. If you noticed, Astana had none of their big guns in the Giro. So they should all be in top condition for the tour.
img244.imageshack.us/img244/1372/pcm0009ii2.jpg

The young dutchman Robert Gesink is out on the course. He will be a prized asset for Menchov, a very talented rider.
img505.imageshack.us/img505/2486/pcm0010sf2.jpg

Sastre is setting out. CSC offered him a new contract, he hasn't signed it yet though. If he doesn't sign, he'll be one of our transfertargets this year.
img76.imageshack.us/img76/7714/pcm0013gn1.jpg

Here's our main man. Samuel, hopefully a little more durable than Astarloza proved to be, rides over the line in the provisional 9th, 21 seconds after Dizzy Dave. That's acceptable for Samuel Sanchez.
img76.imageshack.us/img76/6198/pcm0014tn2.jpg

And here comes an absolute parade of podium candidates. Both here in the Dauphine, and in the Tour de France. Alberto Contador is first. Will he be the absolute captain for the tour? Or will all 3 of them be there riding their own chance?
img105.imageshack.us/img105/6241/pcm0015uc1.jpg

Denis Menchov. The persistant russian could have one of the strongest squads in the tour supporting him. Rabobank has every weapon in the world of cycling at their disposal, one of the most complete teams today.
img181.imageshack.us/img181/7321/pcm0016me4.jpg

Last but not least. Australian mountainbiker turned road-pro. Cadel Evans will surely be up there at the end of the tour. His amazing skillset is second to none. But did Silence-Lotto make a hash of it when they rode Popovych that hard in the giro?

Nice dauphine report there, im glad you kept to your word as that was a very thorough report for a fave race of mine Grin
Good 18th you can surely work on that, hopefully a top 3 will be on the cards if you have sanchez in decent shape Smile
I cant wait for the mountain stages. Tough luck with the sponsor goal skipping that day really screwed you over, but you will still have a chance in the last race (i dont mind if you lower the difficulty just for that one stage because you need to "not get fired" Pfft
Lets hope sastre rejects, have you done the "sound out" thing, usually it will tell you if he wants to come, and add him to your shortlist, hopefully the added interest will convince him to ditch CSC and come to the future that is bright.... and orange. Great story mads, wheres the next stage PfftB)

Euskal Bizikleta - Stage 5
img505.imageshack.us/img505/8802/pcm0048vx6.jpg

Probably the toughest stage yet. We're gonna sound the horn and go all out attack. If we don't complete this goal it doesn't matter if we're 10th or 20th. If we're going out, we're going out guns blazing.

We go from the beginning. Fernandez goes with Perez on his wheel. The plan is to work Fernandez like a horse to get a gap for Perez. The peleton aren't having it though, and reel us in within 20km.
img204.imageshack.us/img204/3801/pcm0019ov2.jpg

150km. Martinez goes on the attack charging up a steep climb he gets a quick gap.
But again, the peleton aren't having it and up the pace to the point where our entire teams is hurting from it. Marchante also took his chance here and tried to attack.
img372.imageshack.us/img372/5529/pcm0023hc5.jpg

116km, Perez again! Noone in front and Perez tries his luck once more. But Caisse are simply too strong for anyone to get away. It's been one big attack this far.
img244.imageshack.us/img244/3065/pcm0024vs6.jpg

85km. Marchante tries again! Garzelli and Navarro go with him.
Caisse again set a monster pace and reel them in. Don't they get tired?!
img254.imageshack.us/img254/6330/pcm0029is7.jpg

50km to go. They've let a few stragglers run a few seconds ahead, but nothing more. They've ridden our entire team into the ground today! Except for Anton!
img181.imageshack.us/img181/2118/pcm0031pm7.jpg

There is an attack on the 3rd last climb. Gutierrez counters it, Caisse let go!
Anton counters, Marchante counters. The 3 of them come over in front of a group of chasers.
img244.imageshack.us/img244/6874/pcm0033qt2.jpg

The group of chasers catch up. And then, Gutierrez glides away on the downhill towards the large climb 20km from the finish. The man is unstoppable!
img244.imageshack.us/img244/8554/pcm0035zj6.jpg

Anton and Herrero of Karpin Galicia give it their all to try and at least hang on to Gutierrez, but he is just flying up this hill.
img244.imageshack.us/img244/8210/pcm0038rz7.jpg

Marchante and Plaza come from behind to go past Anton close to the top. Anton has no response. His early attack looks doomed now.
img204.imageshack.us/img204/4716/pcm0039qw5.jpg

Gutierrez begins the last challenge of the day alone. He is truly a worthy winner of this race!
img244.imageshack.us/img244/3650/pcm0041hu1.jpg

Marchante is catching up to to Gutierrez slowly but steadily. Anton, marked by his early escapades goes at his own pace, he'll lose a lot of time today.
img181.imageshack.us/img181/7154/pcm0044wa8.jpg

Gutierrez crosses the line with a stunning performance behind him. If this is the standard for the Caisse team for the tour, we're in trouble! But how is Valverde doing after the Giro? Mikel is still feeling it and wont be in absolute top shape for the tour.

I'm loving the difficulty. So nice that it's such a challenge. And i don't think i need to adjust it really. I won the Paris Nice and Got 5th in the Giro on hard. It's a learning experience. And Hopefully my sponsors ca see beyond the goals Smile They still have excellent confidence in me so Smile

Carlos just signed the contract. Freire however declined his renewal offer.. ´hmm Smile

How do you play so fast? Shock

One other question, in the game u-23 races are played (simulated) do you have overall results for the U-23 GIRO? If you do would you be willing to post a screenie, i mean there maybe a spaniard in the top20 B) a future euskaltel rider maybe Pfft

There's no U-23 Giro. The toughest U-23 race, climbing wise must've been the 4 stage "Ronde de l'Izard" where a young spaniard named Mantilla took 3rd overall.

Criterium du Dauphine Libere - Stage 2
img372.imageshack.us/img372/9053/pcm0049jt0.jpg

stage 2 is a flat stage with almost no difficulties. We'll try and catch a breakaway and have our sprinters up front.

We've got Juan Jose Oroz in the breakaway tomday. He said over the radio that he felt good today and wanted to have a go at it. 130km to go.
img372.imageshack.us/img372/1181/pcm0050rg3.jpg

On the only hill of the day Oroz has to let go. The pace set by the others throughout the day was too fast for him. The peleton almost has them caught and it will be a sprint finish.
img254.imageshack.us/img254/8356/pcm0052vo0.jpg

12,4km to go. Instead of relying on other trains we'll try and launch With Sanchez leading them up, and then Galdos leading Fernandez out.
img181.imageshack.us/img181/7711/pcm0055wl4.jpg

With 7.8km to go the small hill left a dent in Fernandez, not too bad though. Sanchez ups the effort to get to the front.
img372.imageshack.us/img372/4357/pcm0057sy9.jpg

2800m to go, it didn't work veyr well! Galdos, for no apparent reason decided he didn't want to sit on Sanchez' wheel. Now we're launching from far back! Sanchez is near the front still though.
img254.imageshack.us/img254/4245/pcm0058km4.jpg

But Fischer of Liquigas is very strong and outsprints everyone today!
img505.imageshack.us/img505/3715/pcm0059ds8.jpg

A win for Fischer, Lorenzetto was the only one who could tag along with the liquigas rider today. We can find a little comfort in the fact that Fernandez was probably fastest in the pack when he was launched, he was just too far back. He did manage to climb up to 7th spot though.

unlucky, if you had a hilly rider in the break you could have been in the KOM jersey, which is the inverse of the tdf KOM Pfft

yeah it probably is, im sure you would be able to add more U-23 races, they will probably do that for the giant db with the PCM Fusion DB Pfft
Great riding, and unlucky with fernandez, at least now you can get one rider on fisher and the other sprinter on the lampre rider, which makes it easier B)

exactly

"Avenir" = "Future"

Tour de l'Avenir = u-25 TDF

There are no more sprinterstages actually. Not for Fernandez anyways, hills kill him Smile

It's: Hills, ITT, Hills, Mountain, Mountain, Mountain
