Well, he wanted a second opinion and my doctors disagreed with yours: it wasn't a broken neck after all, just some bruises

Volta a Catalunya Stage 3 - The favourites
We announced before the season who our favourites for the championship were, and they are definitely on title course. Allianz - BMW added another victory today with Samuel Sanchez.
For us, it was another pointless day. It was Bart De Clercq who got in the break today, stealing a few points for the mountain classification.
Unfortnately, the favourites realised the danger and started a hard chase. Leader Andreas Klöden was dropped and Ivan Basso showed a hint of aggresiveness, but the course did not suit him that well. In the end, we missed the top 10 on both the stage and the general classification. Nothing is lost yet, but the team will have to step up.

Volta a Catalunya Stage 4 - Lacking a finisher
It was another day or surviving today. We did not get in the breakaway, so it was a matter or hanging in position. We had another sprint from a select group, and unfortunately this isn't our thing. Another victory for Samuel Sanchez, with no major time gaps. We'll need a good result if we want to turn this race around, but our chances don't look so good.
In other news, the first race of The Lost Classics, Dwars Door Vlaanderen, was held earlier today. The full report can be read in the HQ of our friends Team Cymru Wales.

Dwars Door Vlaanderen - Victory!
The Lost Classics started with a cobbles classic, Dwars Door Vlaanderen. The organisation was done by Team Cymru Wales and Lierse - Pizza Ullo, with a high number of teams interested. 14 teams sent in a startlist of 6 riders, making this first edition definitely a success!
The race itself started with the traditional morning breakaway, followed by an impressive attack from Van Avermaet. Yet one man could close the gap still.
Philippe Gilbert made it to the front, while Mitch Thompson made sure no one else could bridge the gap. It ended with a sprint between Gilbert and Van Avermaet.
Victory for Philippe Gilbert!
To complete the success, Mitch Thompson had something left for the sprint and claimed third place. He'll be really happy with that, his best result of the season so far, with the classics just around the corner for Mitch. The same could be said for Philippe, who needed this win after a disappointing Paris-Nice. The only downside is of course that there were no points for the rankings to be won here.
The UCI was also happy with the result of Dwars Door Vlaanderen, meaning it will be a .HC race in 2013. We're glad to have been part of this!

Ok, let me put it differently, I was thinking of also doing Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, with again a sprint stat of 78 or less. Six riders again. Anyone interested?

Yeah, I'll make the announcement later this week, but no problem if you want to send in startlists already. I'll also have to check if my colleague is still up for doing the report again

E3 Harelbeke - A heroic breakaway
The E3 Harelbeke has evolved from the final test before Ronde Van Vlaanderen to being an important classic on its own over the last few years. A race we wanted to do good in, especialy since we were not counted amongst the top cobble teams. We may not have the superstar, but we have a strong team.
We open the race very early, it was Niko Eeckhout who launched a breakaway with 127 km to go. You'll see him far to the front, as the cameraman could not follow him.
He was quickly joined by Philippe Gilbert and a few other prominent names. Of course this was the sign for Niko Eeckhout to speed up and he did for the next 50 km. The veteran showed his value for the team, as the gap with the peleton kept growing. Hoste and Leukemans had the same plan for Allianz, so there was a big chance the break would get the win, unless the big names reacted.
But they didn't, Thompson and Roelandts were making sure the peleton could not get an organised pursuit off. In fact, Leukemans and Gilbert were shifting the lead group even further. The two friends in real life could work together in a race as well.
After that, it's time to poker. Gilbert is obviously the fastest, so Leukemans tries to drop him a few times, but it's not working, it's going to be a sprint with 3!
Victory for Philippe Gilbert! Two days after his win in Dwars Door Vlaanderen, he adds another cobbled classic to his prize list. He wins another world tour race, so what happened is Paris-Nice is totaly forgotten after today! What a great win for him, our team and our sponsors!

Gent - Wevelgem
To be honest, we weren't expecting much after two great wins in Dwars Door Vlaanderen and E3 Harelbeke, but we can always use points, so the team was motivated enough for this race.
This time, it was Sébastien Rosseler who got into the morning breakaway.
But this time, the major teams did not wanted to be surprised by a breakaway again, so they were working hard and everything got back together. More attack came, but no one got away. It was going to be a sprint with the survivors. Unfortunately, we had already lost our sprinters along the way.
Tom Boonen won of course, with Gilbert finishing 8th, another nice result. We're looknig forward to the Ronde van Vlaanderen with quite some confidence now!

The Lost Classics - part II
Following the success of Dwars Door Vlaanderen, Team Cymru Wales and Lierse - Pizza Ullo decided to continue the Lost Classics series. The race we'll be doing next is Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne
Like before, this race is by no means official. It's just for fun, and possibly bragging rights. If you want to participate, it won't cost you race days, it won't give you points or money, etc.
In order to give the smaller teams a chance to compete, there will be two restrictions for this race:
1) Only riders with a sprint stat of 78 or lower
2) There's a maximum of 6 riders per team
If you want to participate, just send me a PM with your 6 riders. The race itself will be handled by Sutty in his HQ, at a yet to be determined moment.
Good luck!
