What a ride from Contador, well deserved win.
Not surprised to see Danny Pate in the breakaway today though, and I bet that if Contador didn't make that move, Danny Pate probably would have taken the stage win. Contador just changed the whole dynamic of the race, and Sky probably made Danny just drop back to help a struggling Chris Froome.
Looking at the other riders in the breakaway, this would have been an easy win for Danny. None of those guys can climb with Danny Pate (Boom, Duque, Terpstra, Ballan, Mondory), except for maybe a doped up Astarloza, but I'm still very skeptical of that.
Its frustrating because it was so painfully close to being his first GT stage win, and if the tactics had played out a little differently, Danny Pate could have broken the barrier that he has been pushing for so many years now.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Danny Pate snatch stage 19 though, as that one is perfect for him (lots of hills), or maybe try something on Bola del Mundo.
My hero. |

Thats cool, im gonna create an account then!
Surprised to see that downloading is so quick, i guess a lot of people uploading/seeding there files ?
Yep, I think you can see how many people are seeding each file. Most of them are very fast, as seeding is good for your ratio, so people keep doing it.

Vuelta rarely makes my top 3 Grand Tours of a year yet this has been the best of 2012. Great stage, nice to see some ballsy longer-range attacking. UK coverage sadly only translated half the Contador interview, so I hadn't a clue what he said in the 2nd segment.
Shame Pate didn't win though. As Bushwackers says, if 144 riders hadn't cycled faster than him then he'd be leading on GC. |

The king stay the king.
Heh. I, like many, did not expect much from this stage. So I came home from uni, made dinner, turned on around five pm with 3km to go, saw "group Valverde" written on the TV and thought, wow, is Valverde trying something?, or did he get dropped? Then I see that Contador has a 36sec advantage, and the thought hits me: "where is Rodriguez?". Shame I missed it, oh well, I could allways download the replay.
I remember how back during the 2011 giro many complained that Contador was a boring rider because he made the outcome of races boring. Shure, during that race he was so much better than everyone else that he did not face any acutal competition, but he's allways been one of the riders with the most exiting style, and he's really shown it this Vuelta. Allways attacking and adding fireworks to races, even when he doesn't need to. And how many other riders these days would dare to do something this crazy? Not many, unfortunately.
Rodriguez has been great this Vuelta and the route was tailor-made for him, but he's just not strong enough when the climbs get to long and to many.
Looking forward a lot to see how a top-shape Froome will do against a top-shape Contador next Tour. The only other rider since 2007 who has come close to climbing as good as Contador is Andy, but he's never really been an actual contender due to his awfull time-trialling and weak training morale in general. Froome is the first rider who can actually challenge the spaniard, granted that Sky's magical potion-mixture still works next july. |

Spent the afternoon in a meeting with a client, so I didn't get to follow the live commentary. So when I got out of it an hour ago and saw the last line of commentary was that RodrÃguez crossed the line 2:38 back I was a bit surprised.
Then I was sad I missed the stage.
Then I was happy when I realized I already saw the exact stage 7 years ago when Contador was called Heras and Purito was called Menchov

There was only one time trial, so Contador decided to turn today into a second one to even it up

EDIT On Belgium television they say Rodriguez didn't ride his bike yesterday, could be a factor.
If that's true, then his performance suddenly makes perfect sense and he's made an unbelievably stupid mistake that I'm appaled his team let him make

The craziest thing is that Purito actually hasn't lost much to Contador on the climb. Like 10 seconds.
It's just Valverde who's amazing today.
Sorta. Purito was dead, but so was Contador by the time he reached the climb. He worked hard on the flat and descent, Valverde didn't.

Some people get paid by the word. You get paid by the "Danny Pate"
EDIT: My favorite quote from the stage interviews today:
Moments before I attacked, I felt like I had a devil on one of my shoulders shouting at me: "go! attack!" and an angel on my other shoulder telling me: "no Alberto, don't do it..."
Also, Purito's a good guy and he deserves an applause:
what Alberto has done today will fill up a lot of pages in the newspapers tomorrow, and that's a great thing for cycling. And I feel proud to be part of that

Same Here
When I support Froome, it happen that wiggins is to selphish
When I support Greipel, it seems that he got no interest in a flat stage
When I support Martin in time trial, it happens that he recover from his injury
When I support Rodriguez, it happens that he was laughing and having fun when Contador attacked

Please that was in TDF 2010, but now we don't see a battle between Schleck and Contador, don't forget the coming youngsters(Pinot-Rolland-Tejay-Quintana....)
And I think wiggins also could handle them because he chase the attacks better than Froome did, even if Froome is more endurant.

I'm sure Contador hopes there're some differences. After all, that was the last time Heras was seen as a pro cyclist.

Oh believe me, that thought came to me almost immediately
Then again I'm sure Contador would also do well racing folding bikes

I have seen all the highligst, and even downloaded the 2.5GB file of todays stage.
However, no came seem to have caught when contador attacked rodriguez ?
If anyone finds the tape of that, please post the link.
This has defitanely been one of the best GT's since TDF 2003.
Even the Eurosport commentators said that this has been a absolutely fascinating race, and even better than the british TDF winnner (remember they are british themselves !)
They havent seen such a exciting and aggressive GT in many many years. Nice words to hear from the commentators.
Issoisso i like your Heras reference. The way he and Mayo climbed was so spectacular. They will always be my favourite climbers. And Alberto has soon reached their epicness in my twisted mind
If anyone remembers the best stage of last years TDF - The alpe d'huez stage. Contador attacked from 17th km.
It was so awesome and he deserved the win that day for launching 50 attacks or so against Schleck and Evans.
That was probably the most spectacular stage i have seen since the Luz Ardiden stage in 2003.
Furthermore if Valverde keeps this level at next years TDF, then he should finally be able to get a TDF podium place.
Awesome vuelta and it did live up to all my expectations.. I did say fireworks, but fireworks like this at every single opportunity is way more than we ever could have asked for!
Funny to see Valverde shouting VAMOOO to intxausti.
In the end, even though Contador is my favourite rider in the present peloton, i do feel sorry for Rodriguez. He is so symphatic and a down to earth rider.
This was his chance, this was his vuelta. He will never get this close again. Even though he is devasted and crushed in heart, he still manages to acknowlegde and praises Albertos win.
What a champion.
The whole podium is full og great champions.
And Frooomy have gotten my symphaty through various interviews, and weird bizarre attacks (after being dropped) ..
Not a fan of the word - But in true ; Epicness. |

Well, noone will be able to tell if Wiggins and Froome fresh out of the pit, will be able to take Contador, but you have to remember that its not just Contador they have to go up against, they also have Rodriguez, Valverde and hopefully a Schelck in absolut topform with a "new super team" or the old Radioshack-trek team.
One thing is absolut certain though, SKY will have to fight and fight again for another win, and if Wiggins win then he has my respect.
