Garmin - 4th season Giro d`Italia
roturn
Thanks for your fast response. That`S what I have done now. Depending on my motivation I might do a stage excel table by myself and then top 10-20 for the overall.

Hopefully this is just a Paris Nice problem and won`t happen in other races as well.

Pellizotti2
I had the same problem with a few of the stages in Paris-Nice too, so I think there's something wrong with those stages. Hasn't happened again to me. Wink

I hope so. Wink
For this stage I made the complete stage result on my own and the top 20 overall. But definitely won`t do it for the other stagesas it takes too much time.

Paris - Nice Stage 5
Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise - Vernoux-en-Vivarais
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-5-1.jpg
Maybe the hardest stage in this race. A hard climb on the first third, some easier climbs in the middle and a pretty hard one in the end again. This one will definitely split the group and just the strongest will be able to fight for the win. Can Martens challenge the best to stay in the leader jersey? How bad is Sanchez` injury? And what favourites are in a good form?
Experts guessed Kreuziger and Gesink being the strongest with LL Sanchez, Ricco, Anton, Taaramae and Cataldo following.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-5-2.jpg
A group of 8 is allowed to create a small gap. All of them are no danger and are already 10+ minutes down.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-5-4.jpg
But Garmin is working hard in the peloton to make the race as difficult as possible to challenge Martens. It`s mainly Duggan and Pate, who are doing a high pace on the long mountain in the beginning.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-5-5.jpg
After the descent some riders already lost contact, so does Murphy, who has to fight hard today. Therefore Farrar in the green jersey is still in a good position and supports his two team mates now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-5-6.jpg
On the medium hills in the middle part Pozzato is attacking and joins the break, which is just a bit ahead of the peloton.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-5-7.jpg
After catching the break just 3 riders are in front of the peloton. Samu Sanchez and C.A. Sörensen, who are both +3min back and Pozzato (+1min)
are leading the race now and get a maximum of 2min.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-5-8.jpg
The peloton starts the big climb in the end. Next to Garmin with Peterson, Butler and Stetina also Rabobank and Astana are doing the pace now. Rabobank just wants to control, but Astana is doing a high pace now and also Garmin has other plans.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-5-9.jpg
First attack. It`s Tony Martin, who has traditionally a great spring. This obviously hasn`t changed after his team change. Behind him HTC`s Ricco and Cataldo are trying to follow.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-5-10.jpg
This action had a big influence on the whole peloton. Lots of riders are falling back and the biggest surprise is here. Martens at the very end of the group can`t follow the high pace. At least he got some support by his team mate Niermann. Other team mates such as Rogers, Ten Dam and Tankink obviously can ride on their own as Martens just seems totally exhausted.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-5-11.jpg
Later on the hill it`s Kreuziger, who is having a small gap. Behind him Taaramae and Masciarelli prove to be the most active by trying to jump to him.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-5-12.jpg
With 1km to the top the Czech is still having a small gap to a 13 rider group including Sanchez. Biggest surprise here the abstinence of Gesink, who also felt back in a later group. But also Spilak, Uran, Casar or Hermans weren`t able to follow.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-5-13.jpg
So it`s Roman Kreuziger celebrating a great win and taking the lead today. Nobody was able to close the gap to him.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-5-14.jpg
In the sprint for the 2nd Tony Martin shows unknown sprint qualities and leads the 13 riders 46s later over the line. Sanchez, who didn`t had the best legs today sprints on the 3rd and grabs important bonus seconds. Nice to see him not injured.
For the French spectators it`s nice to see Le Mevel, Gautier and a bit surprising Joly in this group. And also Cofidis rider Taaramae looks very strong.
As the next group around Gesink already lost more than 3min today, these 14 riders might fight for the podium spots.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-5-15.jpg
Martens lost even 9 minutes on the last 10km. He really met Mr. Hammer today. Niermann once again proved to be one of the greatest helpers in the peloton and never left his side.

Another sign of how hard the stage was today is the disqualification of 17 riders today including Garmin`s Murphy, who finished as last and 17min over the time limit. Other big names are Hutarovych and Bonnet, who will miss Kreuziger now. Also Lancaster, Rasmussen, Casper, Hoste or Galimzyanov won`t continue.

Nice stage for Sanchez and only 50s behind on GC, it's looking goodSmile

Tuco the Ugly
It takes a loooong time to do that, so much appreciated.

Good racing by LLS, still very much in there for a podium spot, but it's quite congested.

YvesStevens
That won't be hard I think if you want LLS at the podium

tsmoha
Well done with the manually exported results! And even more well with LLS's 3rd! Nice stage btw, didn't expected such a tough stage at P-N Wink

He sure is a big threat now. He shouldn`t lose too much time in the 27km time trial. Especially not as it is a bit hilly. Biggest hope now is that he will lose contact on the harder stages, that have some mountain ratio. Not sure how the stages are set in the DB and doesn`T want to know. More fun to see it during the 3D race. Wink At least one is rated as mountain stage, although I expect the next one to be harder.

Thanks for the stats! Seems like you should repeatedly say that other riders are a threat, worked in the disadvantage of Martens. I mean, Kreuziger and Martin could make it difficult for you, but when LLS is fit, I'm sure your mastertactics + your new skill explained above will work... Wink

Good luck in the Tirreno, hope that Fuglsang can impress there!

Nice podium with LLS, he looks good for the overall podium fight with Martin, as Kreuziger has a decent gap, good luck Smile
I'll be back

Great stage, yes sir!
Martens has fallen, now it can see if LLS finish on the podium. I am sure of their possibilities. Should be monitored Roman wheel, which looks very strong.
Good luck mate. Go Garmin!

Great result! Kreuziger is always very strong in the early season, so it's normal that he's hard to beat. Sanchez looks good for a podium overall.

Thanks all for the comments.
Due to this great stage with lots of time gaps I thought it`s worth the work to make the full stage excel file.
Especially as the last 10km brought such huge time gaps. Martens 9min in the final...

Kreuziger is not just strong in the early season, he is next to Gesink also the by far strongest rider in the field as it is the 4th season. Wink

Normally Martin should be the strongest in the time trial followed by LL Sanchez. Then guys like Kreuziger, Van Garderen and Taaramae. So it might be a great fight for the podium spots. And also the other riders in the first group can still distance the others on the hilly stages.

Tirreno - Adriatico Stage 2
Carrara - Arezzo
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-2-1.jpg
Although the stage looks pretty flat it`s rated as a hilly one. Probably due to the really hard climbs and also the small not rated climbs in the end will be harder than they look. Nevertheless sprinters like Haussler, Bole or Gavazzi should normally pass these hills to decide the sprint.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-2-2.jpg
A large group including Garmin`s Bobridge, Suisse champ Elmiger and Dutch champ Terpstra is allowed to break away. Also some strong sprinters in Ventoso and former Garmin rider Rojas are here. Obviously their teams don`t expect a sprint finish here and try it with a break.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-2-3.jpg
Some kilometers later the former World Champion Fabian Wegmann attacks. He is 2min ahead of the peloton but still 6min behind the group. Very tough solo ride for the German. Maybe he should have waited for the hills to attack as this is surely his bigger strength.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-2-4.jpg
Flecha and Langeveld are the next with attacks after the first mountain sprint. Both of them are decent puncheurs and most important no big GC threats.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-2-5.jpg
This causes some big names falling back. Most surprising probably one of today`s favourite in Giovanni Visconti. But also Quickstep`s Chavanel is surely not expected to fall back that early.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-2-6.jpg
Lots of attacks now. Gilbert is starting the action with Vaugrenard, Gasparotto and Ginanni following. More riders try it, while Fuglsang is having some problems to follow.
And another big rider falls back. One of the top favourites in Van Den Broeck can`t follow, while many weaker riders are still here.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-2-7.jpg
Also due to Kreder`s and Martin`s work plus some other teams all were brought back as also the breakaway.
But Gilbert is trying it again. This time also Sagan, Wiggins, Florencio and Ginnani are trying to follow but again they are brought back.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-2-8.jpg
In the sprint Modolo proved to be the strongest today. He beats the two Lampre riders Bole and Gavazzi and Haussler as 4th. Lampre really did very well today with 2 more in the top 10 as they controlled the peloton instead of following all the attacks.
And Fuglsang as 8th proved to be in a good form and that it was probably the best decision to stay in the peloton instead of trying to attack with such a fast pace.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-2-9.jpg
Bad news for two other riders from us. Kreder crashed in the final 5km and some other riders weren`t able to avoid crashing into him. One of them was Daniel Martin, but also Denis Menchov and race leader Herrada and Rollin crashed.

So all of them will lose 2-3 minutes today but hopefully stay without an injury. Visconti even lost 4'29 today and Van Den Broeck totally collapsed and lost 5'32 today.

Good 4th with Haussler, Lampre failed with 4 riders in top 10

Really bad Kreder crashed, hopefully he is okay!

Still all open...is Kreder ok?

Not sure about Kreder and Dan Martin. Will probably notice it the next Tirreno stage. Just sucks quite a lot as they are my only real helpers and both crashed...Angry
Hope at least one is not injured. Wink

Haussler`s 4th was okay but actually I hoped for a stage win there but the others were surely stronger.

sutty68
Pity about the crash, but still got two men in the top tenSad

MitchNL
Quite a shock with Dan Martin's tumble, but LLS had the same in P-N, look where he is now. Hope that Dan Martin can do the same as LLS, if not, then there's only Fuglsang left.
