Nibali = dope!
Too bad Martin lost a place in the GC, hope he can get it back. |

Still a great stage by Martin! Nibali is just incredible strong...Van Garderen really makes me happy
Hope you can get back your 7th position in the overall! |

I think between 5-8 is realistic. All 4 riders are quite equal in timetrial and there are still 3 mountain stages, including 1 mtf.
Last year I was 3rd with an 76 mo rider ahead of Nibali, Scarponi and Basso. This year I am not even podium with 78 mo rider. Nakes Nibali`s performance even better against several 77-79mo riders.

Wait, how much stage win have Nibeli now
Martin did his best, I am sure that he will be able to pass Efimkin and Le Mével in the overall. |

Nibali already has incredible 8 stage wins so far. Every hilly or mountain stage was won by him. And still 3 mountain stages and a timetrial left
I guess Petacchi`s record will be beaten.
Le Mevel can be possible. Efimkin will be very hard as he is the better timetrialist.
Giro d'Italia - Stage 17
Bormio - Colico
Another hard mountain stage with 5700m of heights. Can Nibali win again today? After the last mountain there are still 40km descent or flat terrain. So it will be harder this time.
Nice to see Martin in the white jersey. Van Garderen, the leader in this category hasto wear the KoM jersey instead of Nibali. So we have the second jersey after Duggan`s KoM in the first week.
A bigger group is formed. On the mountains there are some splits. The first group is around Botcharov (Katusha), Arrieta (Ag2r), Lloyd (Omega) and Verdasco (Euskaltel) again. These 4 are also the best climbers in this group.
For some reason Sky is doing the pace. Do they really think that Boasson Hagen will have a chance today? This would be awesome if he climbs the last mountain with the favourites.
As the pace is still quite low the gap is already at nearly 10min.
After the Presolana just Arrieta and Botcharov are in front. Matthew Lloyd was expected to be the strongest climber, but he felt back.
They have almost 18min now. Will they be succesful today?
On the San Marco Arrieta increases and Botcharov can`t follow. Still 15min. Was this the decision? It doesn`t look like someone behind want`s to do a higher pace.
If nobody wants, then we do it. Martin increases and immediately there is a gap and the field splits in many parts. At first nobody is following and Martin got an advantage of 57s.
Then Nibali, Van Garderen, Rujano and Pozzovivo attack. Still nobody doing the pace behind for Basso, Scarponi and the others.
Arrieta and Botcharov still in front. Then Martin and Nibali. A few meters behind Pozzovivo and Van Garderen. But the next group with about 20 riders is already quite close now.
All favourites are together again. So Martin won`t gain time here. The sprint preparation for the 3rd begin.
Arrieta manages something that nobody was able to do before him. He won a mountain stage. So Nibali must wait for the new record. It`s a perfect day for Ag2r. They won much time on the team ranking today and the stage. Botharov was even caught on the final meters and so of course Nibali won the sprint ahead of Scarponi and Nocentini.

Yeah. I was also really shocked. But at least he won the sprint later
Giro d'Italia - Stage 18
Lecco - Como
This is the stage Daniel Martin was looking forward to. ;(
Luckily he has a good gap to Mollema, Evans and the other contenders for a top 10 result. So he is watching out for Le Mevel today. Just 5 seconds are between both riders and they should be quite equal in timetrial.
It`s really bad weather and the wind comes against them, so the times might be slower than expected.
According to the PCM favourites for todays stage are Leipheimer, Boasson Hagen and Meyer. But after almost 3 weeks in a GT the timetrial skills aren`t that important any longer. Also the regeneration is extremely important. A good timetrialist without energy won`t beat a medium with lots of energy.
Nevertheless Meyer rides a new best time.
1h15'10
David Millar is another favourite. But on the last 2 stages he lost lots of placements as he has no more energy left. Same today.
1h15'15
American champ Leipheimer is the best timetrialist in this race. An indeed he sets a new best time.
1h12'43
Cadel Evans lost much of his skills in the last season. But he has good chances for a top 10 placement in the overall after today.
1h14'30
Daniel Martin was fighting a lot but in the end he had just an average time. But it wasn`t that bad. Just about 1min behind Evans and same time than Ignatiev.
1h15'41
Van Garderen is still in a good shape. A new best time for the young American.
1h12'16
Scarponi also with a good ride. 20s behind Van Garderen and most important for him, faster than Basso.
1h12´36
The dominator of the Giro. Vincenzo Nibali with a great time. 48s fater than Van Garderen. He really did it. 9 victories in one Giro and still 2 mountain stages to ride. This is just awesome. Never in my PCM experiences I had such a domination. (Not even Di Luca)
1h11'28
In the end Martin was faster than Le Mevel - by 1 second
Efimkin and Pozzovivo had better times and Mollema is also still 2min back.
So the fight for the placements will continue in the next two stages.

In my PCM09 career I had a custom team with Monfort, Gerdemann, Nibali, T. Martin, Ciolek and several helpers. There I also won the Giro with Nibali, but with just 2-3 stage wins
He is the best rider for the Giro.
Would like to see a Nibali in this shape against Contador or Schleck in a great shape in the same GT. |

Yes, that would be quite interesting. But Contador and Schleck won´t ride the Giro in a great shape...same with Nibali in France |

Only had Contador seen the Giro ride once in PCM 10. But damn, that was one of the best GT's i've ever ridden. A great duel (with Ricco).

Giro d'Italia - Stage 19
Como - La Thuile
This stage has just one real mountain. But like most stages here it has almost classic lenght. Several stages were between 230 - 260km.
The "Colle San Carlo" with 11,8km and 8,6% in average is very difficult to ride. Martin isn`t regenerating very well, so we hope to stay in the first group. We must take care of Mollema behind us and we will also try to attack Le Mevel.
A bigger group attacked like yesterday. Caruso and last stage winner Arrieta are there, too. Unfortunately all our riders have big problems with their legs. Millar and Stetina had top 30 as goal and now it will be difficult to stay with at least one there. So we can`t send a guy into this break.
Lampre is doing the pace again. Basso is still searching for a chance to overtake Scarponi and at least he has more helpers than him.
Jumping to the final climb. Before the real climb starts Rujano attacks. Casar, Evans and Efimkin try to follow. But all of the mare caught again soon.
The group reaches the real climb. 12 very steep kilometers. Who will attack first. The group is almost caught now.
With 9km ride, Martin increases. He doesn`t feel too well, but he wants to attack Le Mevel.
Martin is already 30s ahead when the otherriders attack. Pozzovivo, Nibali, Le Mevel, Scarponi and Basso, all riders are there.
Martin is caught and just Nibali in in front now. Then a group of about 12 riders persecute him.
On top of the mountain the group splitted into 4 groups. Scarponi, Basso and Pozzovivo are chasing Nibali. Then a group with Van Garderen and Efimkin ahead of a group with Mollema. Martin missed that group, but at least he is together with Le Mevel.
10 victories by Vincenzo Nibali. This is a new Giro record. Plus another chance tomorrow on a mountain top finish where he is the top favourite.
On the descent Martin reaches the Mollema group and so nobody is gaining time in this area. So the final decision will be tomorrow.

Giro d'Italia - Stage 20
Aosta - Sestriere
One of the hardest stages in this Giro expects us on the 20th day. Almost 7km of climbing heights. This is incredibly. Martin already feels exhausted. Stetina and especially Millar need a break since the last 5 stages. This is an absolutely "monster Giro".
Le Mevel has just 4 sec on Martin, so it will be an interesting battle.
A group with some average climbers was formed after the San Bernardo. Caruso, Huzarski, Jufre Pou and Arrieta are the best climbers. Especially the Spaniard of the Ag2r team seems to have a great 3rd week.
Climbing the Cima Coppi the peloton is led by Liquigas` Vanotti and Zaugg.
33,6km of climbing now.
The group starts to split in the cold top of the mountain. Huzarski seems really strong today doing most of the work. (69mo), Jufre Pou and Caruso can follow.
On the Moncenisio there are jsut Huzarski and Jufre Pou in front. They had an maximum advantage of 12min, but it starts to melt fast.
Colle delle Finestre. 19,9km -> 8,1%.
Nibali himself is leading is doing the pace and so the field splits a lot. Martin is totally alone now. Stetina just felt back.
Huzarski reaches the non asphalted roads. He got rid of Jufre Pou but also the group around the favourites are close now.
Martin increases with 10km on this climb. Nibali, Scarponi, Basso, Pozzovivo and Efimkin can follow. No Le Mevel and also no Van Garderen.
But his legs start to feel worse and worse with every meter.
Now also Efimkin lost contact. Therefore Van Garderen attacked behind and will jump into this group soon. They are almost on top of the Finestre.
Unfortunately some riders were able to close the gap on the descent. So Le Mevel, Rujano and Efimkin are back in the group. Martin has now problems on the flat terrain to follow.
Basso with the first attack like on many stages before. Martin doesn`t even think on following. Neither does Nibali.
Basso, Scarponi and Van Garderen are in front. Then Nibali thinks about an attack. With ease he is riding to the front overtaken rider for rider. Just incredible. Martin is still together with Knees, Le Mevel and Rujano in the end. Doesn`t look too good for us gaining these tiny 4s on the French rider today.
Basso with another attack, He really wants one victory in the Giro.
Surprisingly Nibali can`T follow although it`s just 1,5km to go.
So Basso really wins on "Nibali terrain". Just Scarponi was able to follow. Nibali followed with 26s. Nothing to worry for him. He wins the overall, the KoM jersey, the points jersey and the new record of 10 wins in one Giro. Domination.
On the final kilometer Martin even lost some seconds to Le Mevel. So the 8th is also great for us ahead of guys like Mollema, Evans or Leipheimer. This was a big jump for Martin in this season. And he will come back next season probably to get a stage win and maybe even a top5 result.
Also Stetina might be a better climber next year and so he will be able to stay longer with him in the final.
Tommorow we have a last chance for a stage win on a totally flat stage.
A few riders felt out of the time limit today. Unfortunately also Cameron Meyer. With Steegmans and Ventoso two RadioShack sprinters had also to abandon. Hunter, Cavendish, Hagen, Modolo, Feillu. These 5 could be the strongest sprinters tomorrow.
