After you watched Apocalypse Now I recommend you try and find the documentary "Hearts of Darkness" which shows that the production was just as mad as the movie, and it makes you appreciate the movie even more.
Maybe I'll check out that DS9 documentary. Though tbh, I thought the series was pretty weak. Yes, it got better after 3 or 4 seasons, with an engaging story arch and the Defiant, which was desperately needed. But by then I was fed up with the whole Sisko the Prophet story.

I've seen "Hearts of Darkness", and i've read more than my fair share of interviews with Coppola and the various starts and crew. It's one of the most fascinating stories in cinema.
Latests Final Cut version, adds some extra moments and recuts a few things. And watching it on a big screen, entirely worth it. But doesn't make that big an update to things unsurprisingly.
Season 1 + 2 of DS9 are quite slow, takes it's time to find it's feet. Actually covers this nicely in the Doc, having to be distinct from TNG which was still going made it harder to do what they wanted. And even late on having to stay different from Voyager and the TNG movies, they really had to fight for everything.
The Prophet's religious story was not the best, but the Dominian War more than makes up for it with me. The long slow build up, the revelations, plotting and foreshadowing are some of the best in TV. The actual war is played brilliantly.
And any show that can deliver episodes like "Far Beyond The Stars" (which i will argue hard is the best Star Trek episode of all time) and "In The Pale Moonlight" is worth watching. I can provide a list of key and good episodes, rather than battling through every single one.
Also, The Boys from Amazon is goddamn awesome. Star Trek like, Karl Urban has a rubbish British accent but is the star of the show. Beautfilly twisted take on superheros, a perfect anti-dote to Marvel if you want something R-rated.

We're totally on the same page about Apocalypse Now. If anybody else is reading this and hasn't seen the movie yet, please do so, it's fascinating. And the documentary just adds to it.
As for DS9: I'm old enough to have been a fan of TOS (the original series) first and it took me a while to warm up to TNG. But then I loved the show and the next show would have to live up to it, which was going to be tough in any case. But it's now been a long time since I last saw DS9 and maybe I should give it another shot.
The Boys... the superheroes Trump's America deserves. An odd niche, I've tried recommending it to friends who like me don't care for superheroes, but just the fact that there are superheroes in the show is enough for them to say no, thank you.

Rambo Last Stand (Rambo 5) comes out next week. Don't really care too much if i'm honest, certainly not spending money to see it in the cinema, will wait until it's on some streaming service... buuuuut it has generated one of my all-time favorite marketing moments

Has anyone seen the Movistar Team Netflix documentary? Looks like an All or Nothing style series, six episodes. I stumbled across it a bit by accident, buried deep in the recommendations. Going to start watching it tonight if no one advises me otherwise
Also, go watch Tiger King if you haven't done so yet!!

Haven't heard about that. But I do have two Netflix recommendations I've watched lately:
The English Game: Class warfare in England centered around football in the 1880s in six episodes.
Kingdom: First South Korean Netflix production, so far two seasons with six episodes each. Sort of Game of Thrones with zombies! A really good story with quite a few twists, well told, and decent zombie action on top. Give it a couple of episodes to hook you.

If you want an All Or Nothing style cycling documentary, try "Eat. Race. Win" available on Amazon Prime which follows Orica-Scott (yes it's a few years old, 2018) Chef Hannah Grant as the team tackles the Tour. A really unique view into the cycling world i could not recomment enough!

Scrubs!
A show i'll argue is one of the best sit-coms of all time, is my personal #3 TV show ever [behind The Good Place and Buffy]. Now is a perfect time to watch, as Zach Braff and Donal Faison [JD & Turk] have started a new podcast, "Fake Doctors, Real Friends", [available on almost all podcast services] where they are going through the show telling all sorts of behind the scenes stories and just being fun best friends.
Epic show, great podcast, something to make you smile during these hard times

For the German users there is a really cool half an hour long documentary about the Continental Team Bike Aid and the Tour of Ruanda. Quite some cool insight about the social part of the project, the roots of the African development project and also the race itself. Worth the time, especially for cycling interested people, imo.

TeneT - Made my first trip to the cinema since lockdown began in March. This is a film you should definitely watch in a cinema with a proper huge screen and professional sound system, i went for the full on IMAX experience and i was blown away.
I cannot describe the plot, i won't even try. But this film is entirely unique and brilliant. It'll f*ck you up, not a chance you can understand it fully in one viewing (so i'm booked in again already for next Friday).
Chris Nolan does things no other director can even imagine. The sheer scale of practical effects in this film is staggering. I want to watch ever behind-the-scenes thing possible to understand how they even did these things (and yes that was a real 747 crashing into a real building...).
John David Washington is fast becoming a mega star, watch out for anything this former NFL(ish) running back is doing...
Which brings me to Chadwick Boseman. To come off such a movie high last night to complete loss today. I will be going through so many films this week: Draft Day, Marshall, 42, Get On Up, Black Panther, Civil War, Infinity War, Endgame, Da 5 Bloods, 21 Bridges.... because we lost an absolute icon and amazing human being.
It's lucky we have younger stars like Washington coming up.

Watched Tenet as well last night. Thought it was good but way up its on butt lol Inception had a much better flow, half of the time you try to understand the dialogue and the other time the physics.. and it loses a lot of excitement once the gimmick inversion has been established. Sometimes stunningly in the cinematography, if they dont win an oscar for that the game is rigged.
Also watched 1917 a week back. Masterpiece, never experienced a movie like that. The best (anti-) war movie since The Thin Red Line or actually, since ever.

Just watched Tenet today close to blind, watched the first teaser trailer whenever it came out but avoided everything else. Reading a couple of reviews afterwards and it seems I kind of agree with the main reception which seems to be it's a little cold/dispassioned and so I'd find it hard to put it in a "love" pile but it was very good and I really enjoyed it. Managed to follow it better than expected but some of the dialogue slipped through, sound mixing wasn't great maybe between dialogue and environmental stuff (guesses the guy with zero film/sound experience ). Not sure if I will do a second cinema viewing but surely some time when it's out at home, and probably with captioning which is something I'd never usually do but I feel like it might help.
Spoiler Closing action scene was messy imo though, a shame but doesn't ruin it. Maybe could have been longer too which is a strange thing to say about a 150 minute film
And yeah Shonak, 1917 is amazing and (in my experience) a unique film experience. Watched it in cinemas and it was awesome

Second viewing of Tenet, totally worth it! Going in with the understanding of the whole picture allowed be to pick up on a lot more of the small, insane, details Nolan hid in every single scene. There's another added layer to the opening Opera siege you just don't know on the first watch, and just so many neat touches and hidden things.
Also this cinema did a much better job on the sound leveling, and i could even understand the catamaran converstation properly!
F*ck me this is a special special piece of film.
And today i went in to The New Mutants. Very different superhero movie. Not perfect, i'd give it a 3.5/4 out of 5. You can feel the studio hands restricting it, but there's enough of the right ideas and indie feel, plus some excellent performances from Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy to carry the day. Also, doesn't run long, nice crisp ~100mins really helps!
Especially interesting how both that, and The Boys Season 2, were released on the same day! I've not watched it yet, but i loved season 1 so much i've bought most of the graphic novels. Can't wait to dive in, highly recomend season 1 anyway.
Although my problem is now there's too much TV... BBC here in the UK currently has Heroes, and season 1 is one of my top5 best TV shows ever (season 2 is ok, 3+4 are not good...), and today they also put up Battlestar Galactica. That is an incredible TV show that was far more influential than most of us realise. If you like SciFi it's a must see show.
Oh, and Agents of Shield concluded a few weeks ago and i'm trying hard to do a complete re-watch of the massively underrated show (ok, not Season 6, 6 is really bad... but 1-5 are super fun MCU tie-ins that really work well). Basically, there is too much TV to watch!

Last night went to a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show - the ultimate halloween party movie. It's amazing in every way, love it! A perfect start to celebrating halloween and diving into some of my favorite horro's today...
until... Sean Connery has died, so now my weekend will be dedicated to watching the best Bond being amazing in the best Bond movies: Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball & Diamonds Are Forever.
(You Only Love Twice is ok, although shockingly racist nowadays, and Never Say Never Again just isn't good)

The pandemic made me check out a few anime TV series and visual novels and I have a few I absolutely have to recommend. Visual novels always seemed a very limited medium to me, but these are a fantastic read/watch, optionally you can go with the anime series instead, which are just as great.
Steins;Gate: Don't be put off by the weird name. It's a really smart timeloop SciFi with a quirky cast of characters. On the vndb.org (like the imdb only for visual novels) it's the second highest rated VN of all times.
It's a long visual novel which has also been converted into a 25 episode anime series. The visual novel was published in 2009, the anime in 2011, you can find an "Elite" version of the VN which fuses the two together. Whichever you go with, you cannot go wrong. The anime is easiest if you are new to the genre, but the VN has plenty of bad endings to explore.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: (aka When They Cry) A bit like the tv series Lost, only much better because it actually has satisfying answers for all the mysteries. The VN is very long, originally published in 8 parts/chapters, the tv series has 50 episodes (2 seasons).
In an idyllic village mysterious deaths occur once a year, is it coincidence, a serial killer or a curse? And that's really only the tip of the iceberg. Don't be fooled by the cute start, especially the first anime episode, this turns dark pretty soon and can get shockingly violent.
Also, you'll probably be very confused by the first half, you have no idea how these chapters could possibly fit together, but fear not, everything will be revealed eventually. Honestly, I was hugely impressed.
Umineko no Naku Koro ni: The second work by the same writer, again published in 8 chapters. I was very sceptical if he could live up to the excellent Higurashi, but hats off, this is just about the wildest ride I've ever experienced. So it probably deserves to be the third highest rated VN on vndb.org, though I still prefer Higurashi.
It starts off as a homage to the classic murder mystery novels, especially Agatha Christie's And then there were none. 18 people are trapped in a mansion during a storm and get killed off one by one. But it gets crazier and crazier (and more fantastical) with every chapter. In chapter 3 I thought this is getting too weird, but I'm glad I continued. It's full of twist and turns and crazy reveals, dark stories, happy stories, surprising stories.
Here you don't really have the option of just watching the anime. For some reason only one season was made and it only covers half the story and will leave you absolutely clueless.
