Thank you beagle and FreitasPCM Smile Why ever there are already such strong opponents, I think a Top10 overall for us would be great (All have a shape between 65-75)

Garmin, Astana and Colombia set the pace in the peloton.

img593.imageshack.us/img593/2326/k2pcm00060.jpg
Seeing the peloton at their back, a few rider in the front group attacked!

img23.imageshack.us/img23/1475/k2pcm0007.jpg
But with 10 km left, the peloton is in the lead.

img201.imageshack.us/img201/4082/k2pcm00080.jpg
5km

img24.imageshack.us/img24/5137/k2pcm0009.jpg
The sprint begin, 1,5km to the line! Knowing that Yaroslav is a decent sprinter, he get Goddaerts backwheel.

img140.imageshack.us/img140/6140/k2pcm0010.jpg
With 400m left, we see that it will be a duel between the australian champ Allan Davis and Tyler Farrar.

img100.imageshack.us/img100/5613/k2pcm0011.jpg
Finally, Tyler Farrar takes it.

img26.imageshack.us/img26/9766/k2pcm0012.jpg
Who said that Yaroslav can not sprint? He takes an amazing 10th, beating guys like Brown (11th) or Goss (14th). Cavendish (38th) seemed to be to tired to sprint for the victory.

Probably youre right Grin Cavendish was good positioned, but with 5km left, he fall back and do not come back...

Giro d'Italia
Stage 8: Chianciano Terme - Monte Terminillo, 187,6 km
img340.imageshack.us/img340/1604/giroditaliaprofiles8.jpg
Fun is over! The real fight for la maglia rosa starts today. The profile is not such hard, but the final climb, the "Monte Terminillo" (16,1 km, 7,3%), will show who are the real contenders for the overall victory. We expect hard attacking from the Liquigas and Caisse d'Epargne guys...

Team goals:
- No time loss to the other favourites / maybe attack (Leipheimer)
- No time loss / help Leipheimer if he had no other helper (Machado, Paulinho)

Favourites: Ivan Basso, Vincenzo Nibali, Levi Leipheimer, Domenico Pozzovivo, Bradley Wiggins
My tip: Vincenzo Nibali showed some good attacks at the last two stages, he seems strong and a good bet here.

baia
Good luck.

Victory goes to the breakaway. Only worse that Nibali, Basso and Pozzovivo were able to create that gap. We still have the leader jersey, but Liquigas knows now that we are vulnerable at the mountains... Another surprise: Wiggins and Scarponi lost contact in the sprint, they lost 33 seconds on Leipheimer.

Two in a row for Colagno. Nice job keeping the top 3 overall though. It should be an interesting battle between you, Liquigas and Caisse not only for the overall honours but also for the teams classification.

Too bad Basso & co. got a gap.

Also, cool that Stortoni won this stage, he was second IRL.

@baia
Thanks Grin I am just hoping that we will not lose time again at the next mountain stage...

@Porte
Thank you Grin Right, Colnago-CSF with a good performance until now. Pozzovivo was the only guy who does not lost time on the Liquigas rider, he have to be in a top shape!

@FreitasPCM
:lol: Really have to laugh as I see your comment... Its a shame that Masciarelli shows such weak rides at this important race...

@Pellizotti2
I agree, do not know how they managed to accelerate so much at the sprint...
Shock Did not know that Stortoni was also second irl. Seems that he like that stage Grin

It will be a strange stage, probably to hard for the sprinters, but way to easy, so no good chances for the GC contenders to attack today. Popovych as great puncheur, and a 10th in the bunch sprint yesterday... Maybe a candidate for todays stage win.

Team goals:
- Top10 (All which survive the hills)
- No time loss (Armstrong, Klöden, Popovych, Brajkovic, Zubeldia)

Favourites: Alexandre Vinokourov, Cadel Evans, Alberto Contador, Denis Menchov, Roman Kreuziger
My tip: No tip for todays stage^^

great win for Stortoni...regarding to Masciarelli - is he after injury (=very low fitness) or did he crash in one of previous stages?

@beagle
He was injured. Just looked at a backup save, he was injured until End April, and before the Giro, he had only one race day. So no wonder why he has such a bad shape...

Please do not be confused, we race again in the Mellow Johnny Jersey (I forgot to switch the jerseys for stage 1)!

I really laughed at seeing this. Alberto Contador doing the pace and helping Vinokourov?

img19.imageshack.us/img19/453/k2pcm00100.jpg
10km, the break still with 1'29" in front. Probably a victory for the breakaway today...

img545.imageshack.us/img545/5613/k2pcm0011.jpg
5km left. Still 1 minute for the front group. No doubt, one of the nine rider in the front will win today.

img18.imageshack.us/img18/9766/k2pcm0012.jpg
But thats the situation with 1,5km to the finish. The breakaway slowed down, but they are still in front. Who will win today, one one the breakaway rider or one of the topsprinter which survived the hills like Cav or Farrar?

img80.imageshack.us/img80/8837/k2pcm0013.jpg
The pack was to slow, the victory goes to one of the breakaway, Matthew Goss! He beats Scheirlinckx by a few centimeters. The best placed TheShack-rider was Andreas Klöden, with a strong sprint, he finished 10th!

@beagle
I never played with Acqua & Sapone, but just looking at your former A&S story, it seems that he do not show his full potential here. Pity Sad

@FreitasPCM and baia
Thank you for the comments Grin Colombia had a crazy tactic, but if Cav, Renshaw or Greipel are not able to win in a bunch sprint, why not win with a breakaway Wink

Giro d'Italia
Stage 9: Frosinone - Cava de' Tirreni, 188,5 km
img690.imageshack.us/img690/5214/giroditaliaprofiles9.jpg
I hate that stage... Quite flat, but a uphillsprint, so a perfekt finish for puncheurs witth decent sprint abilities like Damiano Cunego or Peter Sagan.

Team goals:
- Top 10 (Impey)
- No time loss / Defend the Leader jersey (Leipheimer, Machado, Paulinho)

Favourites: Óscar Freire, Damiano Cunego, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Francesco Ginanni, Peter Sagan.
My tip: I have the "bad" feeling that Cunego wins today, that would mean that he gain 20 seconds on our squad Sad

Seeing that Rabobank, Sky and Liquigas make the pace today, our rider could relax.

img11.imageshack.us/img11/2259/k2pcm0005.jpg
20km left, the breakaway is almost passed.
Bertogliati, Förster, Honig, Bernucci, Pavarin; +39" Gruppo Rabon; +58" Peloton.

img835.imageshack.us/img835/9694/k2pcm0006.jpg
With 13km to go, the peloton is in the lead again.

img139.imageshack.us/img139/7328/k2pcm00070.jpg
10km to the finish, Impey has a good postion, at the backwheeö of Francesco Ginanni.

img13.imageshack.us/img13/5046/k2pcm0008.jpg
After a little tumble in the pack, the german puncheur Paul Martens has to give up with a fractured hand. His comeback will probably at the End of July.

img560.imageshack.us/img560/5137/k2pcm0009.jpg
The sprint begin. It get worse for TheShack, Impey could not hold himself in front, so no Top10 for us. And depending to the little slope, we see guys like Basso and Gasparotto in front.

img251.imageshack.us/img251/6140/k2pcm0010.jpg
1km to the line. Enrico Gasparotto and Ivan Basso still in the lead. An unexpected time win for the italian?

img522.imageshack.us/img522/7059/k2pcm00110.jpg
Probably not. Óscar Freire and Robert Hunter came from behind and pass Basso. Can Gasparotto hold himself in the lead?

img203.imageshack.us/img203/9766/k2pcm0012.jpg
No. Óscar Freire pass him on the last meters and can celebrate his second stage win at the Giro d'Italia 2010!

img406.imageshack.us/img406/8837/k2pcm0013.jpg
Guess who was last? Right, Francesco Masciarelli.
