I waiting for release.
This project sounds really great.
But I have one little questions, do you mixed for the variants stages from different Tour years for example or is vairant 4 for example the exactly Tour from 2003? |

@ appolox dunno what you mean.
Since i had a run through all xml files and replaced the crashing citys i had no more game crashes besides the usual ones (my game crashes from time to time in 3d after i played the stage and all riders are in the finish but when i reload it recons that i played the stage and keeps the results). But i still hestitate a little with the release cause there is still a slight chance that i missed out a few files and sometimes i need to overwork the stage profile (make a hill a mountain stage and vice versa).
But i must say the game has been a blast and it is now in 3 years i cycle on my PC the best and demanding season and game i played. I also edited the DB a lot and my focus was on minor things which makes the game play superb for me.
Fe. i overworked the team captains race participations. This leads to a well balanced Giro and Vuelta and not to a Giro where my guy only needs to deal with di luca cause all the other riders only do the tour. I also overworked the development of riders so that some will gain much more experience later on (armstrong and wiggins fe.). Also i edited all rider retirement ages. This is to make sure you have lots of good players around all over the years.
I'm now in season 2012 with my fantasy kelme team. There is now a huge number of riders with high mountain stats and some wiht high TT stats as well. This leads to a real challenging and close race. In precious games i won the grand tours often with 5 min plus ahead of my oponents. Now it's only 6 days to go in the TDF (2 Mo 1 TT remaining) and the top ten are all within 3 minutes. Everbody still can win heck my guy indurain is 1,20 minutes behind rodriguez who won over 17 minutes in a bold move in a breakaway in the last hilly stage. And there are still two mountain stages to come in which indurain will loose time but i hope to close the gap in the final TT which is 67 kms long and that should put andy schleck and others behind me. And there still is Pantani who is pissed of at me for loosing its captain roles during last years TDF. I will let him attack in the mountains see if he can do damage to his teammate indurain (allthough pantani is 2,46 behind).
As you see i really enjoy this thats why testing takes so long... |

Sounds like fun, which Db are you using? Any chance of relaesing it before you're testing is done? you're probably going through it much faster than i would...
I understand it correctly that you are making a general 'add-on' for all the databases out there for variant stages? |

@digitizer: when you mean you changed the riders programs, do you mean you changed sta_program / sta_program_info? |

nope i changed the riders type speciality. changing riders from tdf focus to another grand tour. fe. valverdes focus now lies on vuelta as well as from some other spaniards. same goes for giro. this leads to well balanced grand tours so far in my game.
yes the variants will be compatible with almost any db. i only add my db just for the fun of it but you have no need to use it to get the taste of the race vars. But i would use it. It's based on the Portugal exp pack of the original pcm release. The db itself has no errors or flaws and enables a good gameplay. Besides i edited some stuff which should keep the game interesting and your always free to delete team kelme and only have a realistic db.

As far as my knowledge goes, the riders type specialty onle gets defined at the start of a career in dyn_cyclist, based on their stats.
I thought when you predefine it, before starting career, it would simply get overwritten...? |

there are two colums, the first can be determined and so the leaders will participate in the races. Thats sta_type_rider. Then there is also typer_rider_spec this gets overwritten. But once you defined the type_rider (giro, tour, vuelta) that definition stands. This doesn't mean riders won't ride several grand tours in a year (f.e. menchov focus was set to giro where he participated and placed a solid 3 rank and he still participated later on in the tour where he placed 14).
The type_rider_spec defines more or less if a rider is focusing on only one grand tour or more or classics also. This is then generated based on the stats.

Thanks for your answer, but I already figured it out in between.
Actually there are 3 definitons
fkidtype_leader = type of leader, like you said, can be predefined and won't be overwritten
fkidtype_leader_spec = later specialisation, overwritten at start of game
FkidType_rider = the type of rider, these are the MAIN 7 types (tour, mountain, time trial, sprint, rouler, hill, cobble) and also play an important role in defining the limits of the stats of each rider. For example, young riders with almost equal stats in hills and sprints (a hilly guy with a good sprint), can 'accidentely' become sprinters.
Sadly, this cannot be predefined, so you have to be very careful with the stats.
That's what I concluded from my tests

i think i will upload it all on sunday. i'm now in 2016 and i have still 9 grand tours to come but i am a little bit bored. and im sure you all can get much further wihout errors cause i fixed so many things in the damn stages that they should all run now without error. the only thing that i think might occur in real late career times could be that i have mistaken the stage description (fe. a flat could be seen as mountain vice versa)

Sounds great and trust me I don't think that there are many who get to that year with the same team |

Might have been asked in the thread already but can't see it when I skim over it :
Are you going to include the names of the mountains ? Especially in the grand tours I like to know which friggin big climb my riders are hauling their bodies over |
