There's a place in France called Portugal, and a place in Portugal called France, though.
Goddammit, I googlemaped "Ildabaoth" and it linked me to Elizabeth, New Jersey. Not a good omen, I guess.

Anyways, to avoid being banned for my offtopic, my two cents about the stage: a long breakaway, Columbia chasing and a Cavendish wins the stage (I will copy and paste this post until the Alps stages).

hought I'd have a look at the GC standings if the TTT was removed. All times are relative to the Tour favourite Alberto Contador.
1 Rinaldo Nocentini (Ita) AG2R La Mondiale -0:01:54
2 Tony Martin (Ger) Team Columbia - HTC -0:00:05
3 Alberto Contador Velasco (Spa) Astana 0:00:00
4 Lance Armstrong (USA) Astana 0:00:02
5 Brice Feillu (Fra) Agritubel 0:00:03
6 Bradley Wiggins (GBr) Garmin - Slipstream 0:00:22
7 Cadel Evans (Aus) Silence - Lotto 0:00:26
8 Levi Leipheimer (USA) Astana 0:00:33
9 Luis León Sánchez Gil (Spa) Caisse d'Epargne 0:00:41
10 Mikel Astarloza Chaurreau (Spa) Euskaltel - Euskadi 0:00:47
11 Andreas Klöden (Ger) Astana 0:00:48
12 Vincenzo Nibali (Ita) Liquigas 0:00:50
13 Vladimir Efimkin (Rus) AG2R La Mondiale 0:00:51
14 Christian Vande Velde (USA) Garmin - Slipstream 0:01:00
15 Andy Schleck (Lux) Team Saxo Bank 0:01:03
16 Sandy Casar (Fra) Française des Jeux 0:01:06
17 Carlos Sastre Candil (Spa) Cervelo Test Team 0:01:09
18 Maxime Monfort (Bel) Team Columbia - HTC 0:01:16
19 Linus Gerdemann (Ger) Team Milram 0:01:26
20 Roman Kreuziger (Cze) Liquigas 0:01:36
21 Fränk Schleck (Lux) Team Saxo Bank 0:01:39
22 Kim Kirchen (Lux) Team Columbia - HTC 0:02:11
23 Vladimir Karpets (Rus) Team Katusha 0:02:20
24 Denis Menchov (Rus) Rabobank 0:02:36
25 Alexandre Botcharov (Rus) Team Katusha 0:03:31
26 Yaroslav Popovych (Ukr) Astana 0:03:57
Incredible to see how close the race would be, and how ineffective the Pyrenees has been.

I saw on Velonews.com that 23% of people think Nocentini will hold yellow to Paris. What do they know that we don't? |

You forget that we would have other constellations before the pyrenees if the TTT wasn´t there...

Well, I saw on cyclingnews.com that a lot of people thought that Cancellara could win this year's tour by holding his TT advantage and following wheels during the mountains, so go figure.

I'd take the bet, but I have to do some saving and mortage to get the 400.000 euros, so I'm running out of money.

That is astounding, I guess I did not miss much this weekend after all...I thought I was going to be disappointed by missing the next two days in the mountains, but I guess not. I does show you that you need a good team to win the Tour when there is a TTT, but I do remember everyone being down like 9 minutes because of a breakaway in the early 2000' late 90's did they do TTT then? |

I'm sure they would have gone a lot faster with the help of their transfers, CERA-boy and dynepo man. Bad luck for Evans |

They will be allowed to use radios on friday though, according to Cyclingews' live report.
If children have the ability to ignore all odds and percentages, then maybe we can all learn from them. When you think about it, what other choice is there but to hope? We have two options, medically and emotionally: give up, or Fight Like Hell.

Friday - which looks like an interesting stage may have been nasty without radios.
Sometimes though I think we are all getting a little too hung up on the whole radio's thing. For me they do not really spoil the spectacle of the race - sure we may fantasize about different possibilities but essentially the race would remain the same.
Difference is perhaps punctures and crashes have a greater impact and I guess a possibility of dangerous riders 'escaping' slightly easier.
As for today - well I guess it is a bit like the last two pyreenees stages if it was ridden in reverse it would perhaps be a chance for a breakaway the profile suggests that today (and probably tomorrow) will be one for the sprinters.
It will be interesting to see the condition of Farrar and Cav today - not seen anything to suggest Columbia will be weaker today as suggested (perhaps in hope) by Hushovd. |

Quote of the day so far from Norwegian commentator Christian Paasche:
"In spirit of the Bastille Day all four riders in the breakaway are French; Samuel Dumoulin, Benoit Vaugrenard and Thierry Hupond as well as Russian Mikhail Ignatiev."

I'm not very concerned about that whole radio debate concerning to breakaways. I mean, things weren't too different before that. If a team wanted a bunch sprint, they chased anyways. And normally they succeeded. The bad thing is about instant decisions, kind of attacking or counter-attacking, for example. It's annoying when a rider attacks just when his DS says so. But, on the other hand, there are positive things too, like the possibility of aiding a team leader who got a mechanical issue. It would be awful if a GC contender loses his chances just because his team mates couldn't help him in time. So, in general, I tend to think I prefer radio use.

Come on, I want either a breakaway to survive, or for the pack (meaning Columbia and Cervelo) to overreact, catch them all too early and set-up some fireworks (probably Voeckler being Voeckler) down the stretch.
Today's my birthday, so I'm really hoping for one of those scenarios. Also I just got a Cervelo jersey as a present, so I'm going to wear that on the ride I'm doing this moment. |
