What if both groups only end up with four riders? That would be hilarious

Riis should just tie all the bikes together and keep Cancellara on the front
Anyway, Fabian will still be in yellow after tomorrow
No Top3 for Astana after having 4 riders in Top10 in 1st stage?
It's more hope than expectation
Though maybe it will start raining as they set off? |

I will be so glad when the Tour is over and I don't have to hear about Armstrong and Contador every three seconds and can instead talk about real cycling. |

As a South African I disagree but out of interest has anyone realised how similar Armstrong and Warne are?

How did we turn the discussion from a TTT in Tour de France to cricket? |

my newspaper said the reason for popo and zubeldia to work yesterday was that cancellara was there, so if they worked, he'd get a bigger lead(presumably on contador) and astana wouldnt have to chase too much because they wouldnt get the jersey now in the TTT. |

sure isso but with a 40km long TTT I think it'll come down too more than that.
A. Why? You basically just said "you're wrong" and nothing else
B. 38kms is pretty short for a Tour de France TTT
65-70 kms would be average.
100kms would be a slightly long one.
I was counting stamina as a decisive factor, but it seems my assumption of a 40km TTT being long is wrong, so Columbia probably shouldn't be discounted so easiily after all, as you said earlier
Anyway GO Fabian

While he may not expect to win by 41 seconds... you can bet he's hoping they will.
I think Armstrong knows he's not going to be able to hang with Contador in the mountains. I think he expected to be in front of Contador after the prologue and get the yellow today.
Now that he's back ahead of Contador, I think that's still his goal. He knows he won't finish in the yellow... but he'll view it as a success if he can wear yellow for a couple of days.
This is his ONLY chance to do that. |

When you look at the opening stages - it seems clear that a lot of teams do not wish to chase at all early on in the tour (and with Cavendish in this form who can blame them!).
This starts to put pressure on teams as to whether they wish to grab the lead early at all. There is no doubt that all teams will go all out in todays Time trial.
Astana with their supersquad anything but 1st place would be a disappointment - my opinion is that only Garmin and Columbia can beat them. Teams like Saxobank, Liquigas, Cervelo, Quickstep, Rabobank , Katusha and Caisse d'espaigne can all produce good TTTs, they will try and get as close as they can.
I really fear for the silence-lotto squad who may undo Cadel Evans somewhat after his useful opening TT and obvious great prep. They have been advantaged in the last couple of years with no TTT, for Evans to lose anything above a minute on Astana would be bad for him.
I think Saxo will hold on to the jersey and then maybe relinquish it either tomorrow or more like thursday. In fact Thursday (a day that doesn't suit Cav) could be a day for a big gain - this means that some team (french or Skil or someone like that or god forbid another random Columbia rider!) can control until the alps when the real TdF will explode into life! |

It's windy and If Cance goes 100% it will split for Saxo Bank and F.Schleck will drop and it's all over And Lance gets yellow
