I really benefited from 2 things.
1) The garmin crash
2) A broken columbia leadout, looked great with 10km to go for them, then they were all seperated

I'll play another race and then see what happens, it may just have been good luck.
I'd rather not fail miserably.
At least on Hard i'm guarenteed some wins.

21st January 2009
----
So, here we are. Leaders of the Tour Down Under. People have to attack us. And looking at the stage profile this won't be too hard. It's hilly with a hill finish, on the profile it doesn't look much, but a few days before the race we had a look, it's a real strength zapper.
So having achieved our goal for the race, we will now attempt to defend our lead.
So, it's time for me to get in the car as we leave Hahndorf and go to Stirling.
Early breakaway, i decided Sulzberger should have a go.
This early break consisted of: Capelli - Fuji, Sulzberger - FDJ, Cattaneo - LPR.Unfortunatly a group of 14 attacked, about 20km later, the peloton brought us back
Chavanel in the peloton, he's safe.. for now!
This TDU is all about falls so far. Del Nero of Fuji was in the second break of the day, he fell. Now he's chasing.
..But the peloton caught him!
20km to go Ignatiev and Van Avermaet are the only 2 guys left, they have 2 minutes. Can they make it?
The answer is yes and Ignatiev wins.
The peloton sprints up the hill (which is actually quite steep), also the green jersey wearer (not the holder) unfortuantly crashed with 3km to go.
Ignatiev gets the stage, but does he get the jersey?
Yes, he does.

So to conclude, a difficult stage, more than we thought it would be.
We've lost the jersey.
But, tomorrow is another day, Unley - Victor Harbour 136km, hilly but not as hard as today.
I'll talk to you then.

27km to go. I ask Domestique to get the water, he got the water, then got dropped.
All my guys were thirsty.
Still, now i can go back and focus on points and stage wins.

After the transfer here I am in Unley. It's a nice little place this, i'm feeling the rush (get it?)
Sébastien came to me this morning and said "After yesterday, i'm feeling OK, but not as good as Stage 1.
I said to him "Fine, but try the sprint, if it doesn't work, it doesn't matter!"
We need to see what the peloton does today, i don't think we'll try to break away.
Finally before the Stage, Joly has recieved an offer to ride the Tour Du Med. €2500 if he goes. In short, he's going.
Anyway, on with the stage report...
The break didn't wait long today, 7 break away just after KM0.
The early break was brought back. Then i heard over radio tour
"Attack Ladagnous" I got on the radio "WTF are you doing!
"Il y a un sprint meilleur grimpeur en 5 kilométres..."
He's not even in contention for it.. WTF.
Over the top he goes, caught right after this.
So, with 60km to go, nobody is leading.
A sprint provides a moment of excitement as Gutierrez Cataluna of Rock Racing gets it.
Look, a sea view, a KOM sprint is soon. No break still.
Miko Lorenzetto of Lampre gets the win.
Podium celebrations for the Stage Winner.
For the first time in the race, we have 2 different guys on the podium for stage and overall leader.

After the stage, i spoke to Chavanel and asked what happened
"Well, i had a bad day, didn't feel good, told you this morning."
It doesn't matter to me, but i'm hoping for better results soon.
As for the race, well it moves to Burnside Village for Stage 4. Burnside Village - Angaston which is 143km, the second longest on the race.
Speak soon!

23rd January 2009

You appreciate the fact it's the middle of summer here, and soon, we'll be putting our riders back into the middle of the European winter.
Anyway I'm in Burnside Village awaiting the start of stage 4 of the tour down under. Today will probably be the calm before the storm, tomorrow is Willunga hill, before the city centre criterium of Adelaide.
Tactics today? I have none.
On with the report...
As usual a large number of riders attack from the start
This looks to be the break of the day. It contains Righi, Eichter, Ongarato, Stamsijder, Morkov and Del Nero.
The polka dot jersey attacks for some unknown reason (no, there was no mtn points anywhere round here!)
Quickstep want that breakaway back, now!
Klier is solo over the KOM climb.
Wyss wins the stage after a bad form chavanel gets his leadout wrong. But Wyss has lost his head.
Wyss has his time on the podium, gets a trophy and please the Cervelo sponsors, he has his head back on now!
Ignatiev remains in the leaders jersey
