No one is saying Hunter is as good as McEwen or Freire, those 2 were pretty much the fastest in the world on their day. Also Hunter is now 30 odd so the acceleration is going, hence a train is even more important to get victories.

With cavendish's acceleration even a train wouldn't help him i dont think unless he is super fast e.g. petacchi.
The only way anyone has a chance is if somebody barges infront of him in the train and a few others come on the side of him but you have to expend alot of energy to get ahead of him with how fast the train will be going.

Well without a train cavendish becomes very beatable as he will not always be in the right place and a better positioned sprinter can beat him, even without the same top speed and acceleration. However when Cavendish is deposited on the front with 200m to go having expend no energy it is almost impossible to beat him.

If cav didnt have a train he would jump onto the sprinter at the back of his train and i think he would accelerate past him. Thats what i meant when i say even if he didnt have a train. Just like mcewan used to do

He would try, but there a plenty of sprinters who are strong with a chain but don't quite manage to get the wins without.
