Bennati first race for the season. Lets see how good he's racing sped is at the moment..If it is not enough then Fischer will take over leader position
Early phase of race..this is Hushovd..who makes spetacular fall.. He is ok..he get back to the group.
This is realy windy February..today we continoue our wind storys. Peloton cracks..four Liquigas guys into front group..main favorite Petacchi is there also Alan Davis and Thor Hushovd
About 30km. to go..still wind makes differences with race..now at the front group now one dont want to work..but still speed is extremly high into this mess.
15km. to go..has Liquigas has still 3 riders at the front group and now one doesnt want to take a lead..they build theyr own train Corioni..Fischer..Bennati
Then Gerrans and multiple time winner Petacchi come behind..Bennati start to follow Petacchi.
Then another sprint train coming to left side..there is Hushovd, Davis, Paolini and Janek Tombak.
Sprint..Hushovd and Davis seems to be faster at the moment..Petacchi is out of the game. Bennati trying to follow.
Last corner Davis is fastest man..Bennati has serious problems even to follow. There is no chanche to beat him today. Davis will win..but who will be second
Good race..I liked it. Bennati 2nd. Good and a little surprise to see Tombak so fast and well placed.

Stage 1
Palma - Palma
Mallorca and Amgen race will be preparation for Paris-Nice, Tirreano-Adriatico riders. In Mallorca Pellizotti will be team leader..and Fischer will collect sprint points. Quinziato will be there to get ok form for cobble season.Sylvester Szmyd will be hunting climber points.
Quinziato has great flat rider helping Fischer to find good final sprint position.
..and this is result for hard positioning battle. 2 Katjusha riders are down. There go's russian team sprint hopes.
And they are off. Freire takes the sprint lead..Fischer is right behind him..
Then Fischer launches own attempt..side by side situation with Freire. First Mallorca stage win will between those two riders.
Clockwork..he passes Freire just before in the line. Great win. Btw. at the early stage of the season Fischer has shown great fighting spirit and is clearly nr. 2 sprinter of the team..he is better then Chicchi..at least for now.

Stage 2
Port d'Alcudia - Port d'Alcudia
Go Fischer! Lets keep that leader jersey one more day.
Zabriskie is one of top riders into todays breakaway group.
First time this season Liquigas has chanche to practise peloton control.
We have to salut for Zabriskie today. Peloton moving real fast..they are now into final 15km. ..still atacking energy left.
Quinziato drag Fischer today behind Nocentini. Freire chooses the same train.
Bang! Fischer is off. He pushing himself between Valverde and Nico Sijmens
Looking good!
Freire and Förster coming at behind..they are fast but to late.
2 for 2. No need to comment.
Happy Quinziato..he has done a job 100% second day straight.

Stage 3
First hill stage..new names will step forward like Valverde, Samuel Sánchez, Devolder etc. Liquigas will start work for Pelizotti. Sylvester Szmyd will start he's job to take climber jersey home.
and here is Szmyd into todays breakaway with Hélder Oliveira and Jürgen van de Walle.
Peloton riding with fast speed when disaster for Euskaltel take place..team leader Samuel Sanchez falls. Team will send to helpers to get him back on the group...but they dont make it anymore. One favorite is out at the GC play. Liquigas looses in the same crash Gorazd Stangelj...good news is that he is ok to keep racing.
30 to go..Ag2r leader Efimkin with Caisse raider Lopez launches atack. This atack ended Szmydt breakaway ride.
Peloton chasing them down..then 10km. to and we are near to final finish hill..Breschel launches he's attempt...mind game has started.
Then another atack..even more serious..Constantino Zaballa, Freire, Colom, Mosquera. Pelizotti still waching Valverde and waiting..waiting to long?
..and here he is Valverde atack..Pelizotti follows. A little difficulty to do that..Valverde uphill acceleration speed is amazing.
Colom keeps the lead and takes stage win with leader jersey prize. Fischer finish into main group isnt enough to keep yellow. Pelizotti is a little dissapointed after race..he has to much left in the legs after finish line.
Katjusha having just great "new team spirit" run at the moment.
Few good news after race..Fischer still holding green jersey..and Szmydt takes climber jersey.

Stage 4
Soller-Soller
Now real fun starts..one of key stages in Mallorca
Auch!..tour point leader and two stage winner Fischer crashes in downhill section. Peloton is after Szmydt and breakaway group already..and Fischer is lightly injured also. Team is ready to send few guys back to help him...but peloton has gone. This is it ..team decided - this is enough for Fischer he will abandon race. No point to push forward with that injury.
Valjavec and ysterday crash victim Sanchez atack...no way!
Zaballa and Brechel Coll e Claret atack....
Igor Anton atack follows..Pellizotti dont want waste any important breakaway attempt today. He follows..Moncoutie, Breschel, Zaballa and Julián Sánchez Pimienta. After hill top race current leader Anton slows down again.
But Pellizotti has been so far to careful ..now he atacks on descent.
Pellizotti still feeling ok..panic in peloton ..several atack follows Brechel coming first (again) in the final climb before downhill finish..then Valverde closing that cap.
Then Antonio Colom, Ezequiel Mosquera, Stijn Devolder, Ricardo Serrano. Colom in the favorite group but this hill top looks real painful for him. Breschel is finaly cracked.
He cant keep up..realy? no ..he comes back. This climb was about 500m to short..with that Colom would be cracked. Close call.
Sprint!..last km. Pellizotti finds himself to early at the front.
Valverde takes stage win..Colom second..well done after that difficulty at the last climb. That small margin win give Valverde leader jersey. All will be settled tomorrow.
Pellizotti feeling much better today..3rd. place and also great escape attempt that was.

Stage 5
Magalluf - Palmanova
Mallorca last stage...Pelizotti need to get higher on he's current GC standing.
Breakaway group Szmydt doing lot of work and collecting mountain points..then De La Fuente decided to say good bye. Nobody wont response for that..he is gone for solo.
Last uphill..and here go's Pellizotti. He need to try something..Mosquera follows. At the top also Zaballa is there and Wegman, Efimkin. Caisse started a chase
Zaballa downhill atack... De La Fuente still on the run
And there is other group..Efimkin..Pellizotti..Wegman..Mosquera..Sanchez Primienta. Caisse still controlling the main group..they coming back.
And there comes Zabriskie..he is descending real fast
They are back..and the same moment two Caisse raiders crashes at the front...then...
...hugh crash. Pellizotti survived ..main group do not wait nobody. Fisnish is near..and there is still De La Fuente at the front.
Sprint..De La Fuente will take stage win..but who is second. Every bonus second will give effect in final GC. Pellizotti leading main group..but there is Freire, Valverde.
De La Fuente..great solo ride...after him Alejandro Valverde, Óscar Freire (no stage win in Mallorca to him), Ricardo Serrano and Franco Pellizotti.
Valverde is tour winner.
Pellizotti 4th. in final GC..Szmydt climber jersey and Fischer two stage win..ok for me.

Next one:
This will be mostly Ivan Basso season open race. He takes this as practice..specialy intrested about second stage. But dont expect any dominance (even as startlist is weak)..Basso is now out of shape. April and specialy Tour of Romandie will show us he's Giro prospects.
Ivan Basso
Daniel Oss
Jacopo Guarnieri
Enrico Franzoï
Andrea Noe
Alessandro Vanotti
Fabio Sabatini
Ivan Santaromita

Man, I love your stories. You may not be a master of the English language but you still manage to get the emotion through to the reader.
