Stage 9
It´s time for flat stage today. So the scenario will be really simple, all of us know it. Group of rider will be most of stage in front, they will be caught few kilometres before finish and finally mass sprint will decide, who will be today´s winner. Ok, here are few pictures about it.
Group of 14 riders without any ambitions in GC in front of main pack....as expected.
10km to go and last escapees is about catch....as expected.
Mass fall with more than 50 riders involved, only 6 km to go....as expec.....NO!!! THIS IS NOT EXPECTED!!! Look at the road! It looks like after Battle of Waterloo!!! Let´s take a look, who was the victim. O dear, there lies 8th man in GC Axelsson!!
And who lies after the curve? No, it looks like...no, it´s not possible, but.....yeah....IT IS DAVID BLANCO, our main opponent in battle for yellow jersey!! Hu just buried his chance in this race.
Just for order, Grivko wins in sprint.
And here is sad hero of this day, more than 3 minutes down.

What does it mean? It´s an irony that boring flat stage can mean so much for whole race. Only 3 stages remain and we still hold yellow jersey, now with quite luxury advantage before first pursuer. Next stage will be the last mountain one, hope you are looking for the continuation

Stage 10
Another very hard stage is before us, Jose Rujano is in good shape and ready to fight for his yellow jersey.
Today´s early break contains 8 riders. Noone can jeopardize our leading in GC, so we have no reason don´t let them go.
In last hill, it was Visconti, who attacked first. After few kilometres he catches leading group and then continues in solo ride.
Mestre attacks, Rujano, Zabala, Machado and George counters.
Niyonshuti, last man from early break, is caught by main favourites. Visconti is still ahead.
Tbe best defense is - ATTACK!!
And Rujano attacks again and again, Visconti, last victim, can´t respond anymore.
And Jose Rujano is a winner of 10th stage of Vuelta al Tachira. Race victory seems to be very close!! Zaballa, Machado and surprisingly Podgornyy (flying from nowhere or what) sprinted past Visconti in final metres, more in stage results.

I found I´ve badly uploaded profile in stage 8 - now it´s corrected, thanks for your reminder
Stage profiles 7 and 12 are really very similar, but not the same. |

Damn, I didn´t know there is no chance to save & replay TT (or did I miss something?), so I have no screens from stage 11
Stage 11
This is our stage, short mountain team trial, it´s a great profile for yellow jersey, we expect no less then his victory.
Experts predicted that Rujano, Medina and Blanco are the main favourites for today and they were definitely right! Rujano outclassed whole pack and gained his 4th stage victory, Blanco was 2nd and Manuel Medina finished as 3rd. It was his second podium place in race. Vasquez and Contreras got 7th and 8th place. Good job!

Stage 12
Final stage of Vuelta al Tachira. Rujano holds yellow , green and white jersey. And our main goal is to protect our leader and avoid any troubles. We know that only bad luck or our own stupidity can blow out race victory from our hands.
The early breakaway, they are about 6 minutes ahead of pack.
But main pack caught them 20km before finish. Russell Downing from Pinarello is the fastest in mass sprint and takes his 2nd victory in race. What a performance for leader of small British continental team!

Teams
We spent two magnificient weaks in our country. Jose Rujano won 4 stages, yellow, green and white jersey. Noel Vasquez took another stage victory for our team. Manuel Medina achieved 2 podium places. All team mates worked perfectly, we could saw great performance from whole team.
Now it´s time to move to Argentina for another stage race – Tour de San Luis. It´s a 6th day race, with 2 short and flat individual time trials and one stage with big climb in the end. We would like to maket he best of our good shape and gain some nice results there. We know, starting list will be much more powerful with some UCI pro tour teams. But we´ll fight! |

Welcome in Argentina. Tour de San Luis is about start! 109 riders joined the race, with some big names. The main favourites are probably two Spaniard, Louis Leon Sanchez from Caisse d´Epargne and Haimar Zubeldia from Astana. As Jose Rujano is in good shape, we would like to fight for TOP5 position in GC and try to take podium place in mountain stage.
Stage 1
Here are TOP6 from 5.3km long (or maybe short?) time trial.
6th, Jose Rujano, +8
5th, Haimar Zubeldia, +8
4th, Robert Hunter, +6
3rd, Magnus Bäckstedt, +1
2nd, Evgeny Petrov, +1
And the winner is – Luis León Sánchez

6 José Rujano Gobernación del Zulia s.t.

8 David Cañada Fuji - Servetto + 10
9 Steve Morabito Astana Cycling Team s.t.
10 Ryder Hesjedal Garmin - Slipstream + 11
11 Marcel Sieberg Team Columbia - High Road s.t.
12 Zak Dempster Cycling Club Bourgas + 12
13 Frantisek Rabon Team Columbia - High Road + 13
14 Zachary Bell Kelly Benefit Strategies + 14
15 Martin Lollesgaard Team Energi Fyn + 15
16 Josu Agirre Euskaltel - Euskadi s.t.

18 Imanol Erviti Caisse d'Epargne s.t.
19 Maxim Iglinskiy Astana Cycling Team s.t.
20 Jurgen Van Goolen Team Saxo Bank s.t.
I´m impressed by Rujano´s performance, he let some very good time trialist behind his wheel and got respectable 6th place in same time like Zubeldia. Well done. |

Stage 2
This flat stage will probably finish in mass sprint, but we don´t want to stay hidden, we should try to show our dresses in some action.
Lafuente attacks main pack, Chacon and Rovny counters.
It´s our rider, Chacon, who is the first on hill. It means, he will wear KOM jersey tomorrow, good!
Three excapees were cought 30km before finish, Dominguez takes victory for Fuji – Servetto in sprint. Sanchez hold yellow jersey for tomorrow.

Stage 3
This is a flat stage with small hill in the middle and another small hill in finish. Our main goals are to hold KOM jersey and try to do something in last hill finish.
Unfortunately Chacon missed his chance to join early breakaway group and now it´s sure that KOM jersey will change its owner. 6-man breakaway group is now leading by 7 minutes.
Domenic Klemme attacks his fellow combatants!
He is still 1:20 min ahead of main group in the bottom of final hill.
And must be very unlucky, he´s caught only 700m before finish line.
The fastest man in sprint is another Saxo man, Jurgen van Goolen, ahead of Siutsou and Hesjedal.

It´s time for second flat time trial in four days. We hope that our leaders won´t lose too many time for the biggest contenders today.

Stage 5
Queen stage, without any doubt decisive stage of this tour. We´ll try to act positive part of its story, possibly Rujano is capable to win whole race?
Chacon gaines some KOM points for 2nd place in first hill.
After many many attacks and counterattacks, we can see a very strong front group with some excellent climbers in. All our team is hidden in main pack.
Domestiques of Caisee and Astana worked hard all the time, but escapees are still more then 3 minutes ahead in the bottom of final climb. It´s big and bad surprise for me, it´s not possible to fight for podium place, gap seems to be too big...
Martinez attacks, Rujano counters, it looks hopefully!
Front group splits, this is leading part.
Zubeldia attacks, yellow jersey can´t counter!
Zubeldia is looking very strong today, he just have catch Rujano.
Less then kilometer to go, Bisolti or Serrano?
No!!! Zubeldia drops Rujano, his sprint is crushing! Serrano drops Bisolti, he´ll win!
Serrano celebrates his magnificient victory, Pozzovivo sprinted past Rujano in final metres and takes 5th place, Rujano is 6th. Haimar Zubeldia is the new leader!

We are both happy and sad 4th place in GC is amazing result, but we feel it could be better as 2nd LL Sanchez is only 6s ahead. This race will finish with flat stage tomorrow, our only chance to improve Ruajno´s position is to try attack and gain some bonus seconds in sprints...

I don´t know, what to do...I´d be happy for podium place in GC or even take 2nd place from Sanchez + his white jersey, but I know only chance is to "cheat" - attack with Rujano and gain some bonus seconds. Would it be possible in real cycling? I don´t think so. And I´m not sure if I would be happy with podium place achieved by this way. Theoretically there are two ways, how to improve my position: 1) pray and wish to someone from TOP 3 puncture or fall or 2) try to beat Hesjedal for about 30 places in last stage (if I count right)...hmmm
what would you do in this situation? |

If you want to try and do it realistically, try and get Rujano in the break with about 15-20km to go to the sprint for bonus seconds. If he manages to hold off the peloton, and not get dropped at the end of the stage, I'd say thats fairly realistic. I'd go for the bonus seconds every time.

I think Caisse and Garmin boys would never let him go, they would protect their leaders in real life. I´m not sure if AI wll do the same |
