A nice little bonus for the team saw Darren Lapthorne being awarded the young rider of the month for January.
Tour of Qatar:
6 pan flat days in the dessert of Qatar is nsxt on Rapha's schedule. Obviously the quality and the size of the field is going to be much higher then in New Zealand so i'm not expecting us to really achieve anything. but it will allow my riders to get some days racing under their belts. By the end of this tour my whole squad will have been used.
Squad: Downing, Greenwood, Holoham, House, Rudling, Southam
Stage 1:
A 12k TTT to get the tour under way. I've only brought 6 out of a possible 8 riders and we are the weakest team in the race so i expect us to finish last. We do, but we are joined on the same time by Lampre 1.21mins behind the winners Garmin.
Stage 2:
The tour starts as it means to go on with a very flat stage. Initially i try to get Holoham into the break but it is brought back and when another one goes i just let it go up the road. My team will just sit in all day. The break is allowed about 5 mins before the peleton start to act.
As we enter the last 20k the whole peleton is back together. The pace is high so they are all strung out.
The wind is high and the peleton starts to fragment. Rudling has been my water boy all day but he happens to be at the front when the peleton splits and gets into the first group along with Holoham. Downing misses the split.
However the pace is too high for the young Rudling and he isn't able to follow the wheels in front of him.
In the end the win is taken by Greg Henderson of Team Columbia with Rudling dropping back into the peleton to finish 18th.
As expected it is a hard day for my team. Hopefully tomorrow we can make it into the break.

Stage 3:
Once again we fail to get anyone into the break. No-one seems to be strong enough at this level. The break builds up a nice lead but is never allowed to get to far.
Like yesterdays stage, when the break is caught, the wind begins to split the peleton. This time Downing makes it into the first group.
As they hit the 5k to go mark he is actually looking quite strong. However when the sprint really hots up he just hasn't got the legs.
Farrar pulls a quick one and gets a big gap on the others at the front.
However when the sprint starts Arashiro, Backstedt and Pineau start to close fast.
Arashiro takes the win while Farrar has to settle for 4th.
Downing fades to 20th on the day but at least he made the final break. I don't think my team is going to get anything at all this week, but we'll still try to get into a break to keep the sponsors happy.

When the wind comes from the side you have to be in the "relay train" to don't use your strenght up. Anyways, great story |

Stage 4:
Another long flat day in the Qatar dessert. Again we miss the break but it was my fault this time as i was messing around bringing Downing nearer to the front. 4 riders get a away and build up a gap of almost 10 mins.
The group is caught with about 25k to go and the peleton prepares for another sprint finish. Greenwood leads out downing and the 2 of them are right in the action going into the last 5k.
However they just don't have the strength to make any impression on the final sprint. The Sprint is won by Nico Sijmens.
While Greenwood and Downing finish respectably in the bunch.
Everyone except Southam stayed in the peleton today so i'm quite pleased with the teams performance.
With 2 stages left Greg Henderson has control of the Yellow jersey ahead of Big Mag. My highest placed riders are Downing and Greenwood in 95th and 96th respectively.

Stage 5:
Today was the longest stage of the tour so i let my team sit the bunch and do very little indeed. Didn't want to risk loosing any of them to the time cut off.
A useful looking gorup of 8 formed up the road but as usual thay were brought back well before the final sprint.
Again Backstedt proved that he's still got a bit of speed in his legs by contesting the final sprint, and today he won it.
Again 5 out of my 6 riders finished in the peleton, only House fell behind towards the end. As a result of todays stage Backstedt has reclaimed the yellow jersey with just one day left.
Just 1 day to go for my team in Qatar and 1 last chance to get into the break. It's tomorrow or nothing. |

Maybe you should delete Bäckstedt in your save game. A few days ago, he decided to retire |

Stage 6:
The last stage is 120k long and we are desperate to get someone into the break so it's not a complete waste of time coming all the way out here. Downing has some decent fitness after a week in the dessert and has been felling good all week so i send him. He latches onto 2 escapees and they form a group up the road. In the first sprint Downing takes 3rd.
Behind them 2 more groups have broken away and formed. Both groups make it across and there is now a group of 10 at the front of the race.
However the peleton obviously feels that this is too big and start to chase them down imediatly. They are caught with 17k to go.
And that was more or less the end of the tour for us. Downing dropped out the back of the peleton and was kelped home by Holoham while the others all stuck in to finish in the peleton. At the Front Dominguez won for Fugi and Backstedt held onto his yellow jersey.
Overall its been a satisfactory week. I would have liked to have gotten into more breaks but we haven't been humiliated by the big teams. |

hey crue, hope this works. so what exactly are you gonna be doing? The main problems i'm concerned with are the national teams bug and the Giro bug as they could hamper my story later on.
What other ones are there that you could help me with?

I didn't do a test run, but I guess it's fine now. It's attached to this post.
Download it and place it in My Documents/Pro Cycling Manager/Database/Solo/PCMdaily2009DB/
In-game, when loading the save game, make sure to choose RingosSaveGame instead of game_001_12.
