3rd Stage
Let me introduce the big favorites:
Riccò who is now a Gerolsteiner after his ban
S. Sanchez the Olympic Champion
…and Barredo (among many others)
The day’s break was hard to find but after some struggle 10 riders formed a strong group: Calzati, Zandio, Cioni, Cañada, De Bonis, Nozal, Miranda, Lowe, Chacon and our Pires.
At the first climb Calzati, Cañada and Cioni attacked and became the front group.
Miranda and Pires were caught by the peloton during the final descent while the 3 at the front were also caught bey the others becoming a group of 8 with about 2’30 of advantage to the bunch which was led by QST.
When the final ascent began most of the group had been caught with only few riders with some seconds ahead of the peloton commanded by Siutsou
Vicioso was the first to dare something
But even the peloton’s speed didn’t seem to be enough to catch the front group
Calzati crossed the line in the first place ahead of Cañada beating all the favorites!
Vila (riding for CSC) was the first of the main group

Barredo or the Columbia rider? The Columbia rider to me looks as though he has had a nasty fight the night before the stage. I'm surprised he's continuing with both those black eyes. |

4th Stage
Vicioso was one of the Outsiders but could he deal with the best?
The break of the day was formed by 7 riders and included Glomser as well as LA MSS’ Pires
The break was kept under control by the leader’s team but also by Quick Step…was Barredo up to something? Simoni (QST) took the control of the bunch and increased the pace at the final climbs. The breakaway shouldn’t be hard to catch.
L.L. Sanchez was the first to attack with 8km to go to the top of the last hill
Then it was Gil, Riccò, S. Sanchez, Plaza, Calzati… Vicioso remained still, the right moment wasn’t this one
Then it was Barredo. Vicioso just couldnt wait any longer he had to get this one!
But Barredo was able to reach the top with a minimal gap to Vicioso’s group: S. Sanchez, Riccò and Plaza
He was unreachable during the descent but Sanchez attacked at the end of it! There would be a sprint finish! Although Sanchez is faster then Barredo he couldn’t beat him in the end because he had an head start to the sprint. Barredo (The zombie) was the winner!!
Just a few seconds away Vicioso ensuring the third place in front of Riccò and Plaza… Well done Dopeman, well done!
Well surprise surprise!! The judges didnt consider the gap! They thought “as its still february Vicioso’s dope wasn’t really producing any effect so lets help him.” – and so they did

I know you've been waiting for this all week so here it goes
5th Stage (Last one)
The final stage had arrived. It wasn’t a last man standing stage but it was very hilly so it was expected lots of attacks and a high pace from the start to the finish line.
Vicioso was full of strengh and confidence. He wanted to show that to his opponents and so he attacked to conquer the 6’’ of the the first sprint and he suceeded . Barredo and the others have been warned…
As the spanish was swallen back by the peloton a front group was formed with 7 riders. We could identify Danielson (TSL), Piluschin (ALM), Ortega (SIL) and Losada (GCE) between them.
Only these 4 remained at the 3rd and steepest climb of the day when Voigt(THR), Capechi(SDV) and Breschel(CSC) attacked in the peloton with no reason to do it and were caught right after the hill.
More silly attacks ocurred but Euskaltel and Quick Step maintained the bunch together at the beginning of the last hill while seeking the 4 at the front.
At the last climb Vicioso went right after the first attack!! He was able to hold the pace until the top of the hill with Barredo on his wheel. No sign of Sanchez or Riccò!!
In the descent Barredo’s speed quickly passed the remainings of the break of the day while Sanchez tried his luck attacking in the downhill back there.
At the final sprint Barredo didn’t stand a chance with Vicioso on his tail!!! A deserved win after a week with some good results. Zaballa was able to ensure the 3rd place at the finish. What a way to start February!!
And look at the gap to Barredo in the GC!! 2 seconds!! That first sprint of the day was really worth it as it granted us the Overall and the Green Jersey. All hail Angel “Dopeman” Vicioso!!!

Vuelta a Andalucia
February had started in a really good way for us! The first stage and GC were conquered by the Dopeman. Meanwhile O’Grady achieved a reasonable 9th place in Malasya. Now it was time to turn South on the Spanish Scenario to face Andalucian Roads. Vicioso once again the Leader and contender to the yellow.
The Squad:
1st Stage
A Stage with lots of falls including Romero’s
Still at the end Vicioso was well positioned and was able to fight for the victory. He got the second place after Breschel. A good start though.

2nd Stage
The breakaways during the stage were really anoying… The interest only began when all the favorites started attacking with 15 km to go!! It was quite odd as the finish was hilly. Vicioso(wearing blue today) couldn’t stay still any longer when he saw Dekker(in white jersey) and Pozzato pass through him
Besides the all the frenzy only 5 disputed the victory: Cancellara, Bosisio, Lagutin, Vicioso, Dekker and Voigt. The three at the front seemed to have an advantage to Dekker, Voigt.
Vicioso only had 2 in front of him…could he do it again??
No he couldn’t !! a rocketman from Columbia just passed through them like Valentino Rossi… Who was this hilly Cavendish carrying Dekker with him??
It was Voigt!!! No one was used to see him in blue and to sprint like that! What a show of power!! Dekker was 2nd while Vicoso holded the 3rd place!
