Happy with where we are at half way through the race. Bobridge is racing well and Howard is going well too. A good start to the PCT season so far! Hopefully we can improve our GC position here!

Much better from Vesely. Next two stages will decide how our race turns out...

Some good efforts from Stannard, but GC-wise nothing to write home about. Hopefully the next couple of stages prove more useful.
Congrats on the wonderful race fj!

If only the break had been caught and that was the bunch sprint that Dzama had won... Two breakaway wins already in TDU is pretty crazy but I guess the route is one of those tricky ones that PCM really has a hard time organising a proper chase for. Thanks for the report and congrats to Kandes on a great win! One more GC stage left, hopefully Turgis converts it into something great!

As the reporter, was very interesting to see the breakaway wins here, but PCM does seem to really struggle with 3-4km climbs and how to chase on them. The break almost never loses any time on these, even when the breakaway is tired (but not dead). Peloton also seems to break up over the top of these causing the chase to become disorganized over the top and delay a catch (if it is to come).
Still has been very fun to write and share. Congrats to the winners so far!

Well sh*t, Lagane Meyer Mutsumine and JMO all losing more time today. Seems like we're on course to get nothing from this race. Chance of a wild team attack to at least be visible?

First podium of the season from an unexpected source ! Well done Juneau.
Probably can only hope for more of the same next couple of days. It's good to see a couple of breaks make it

Bobridge is up to 6th on GC after that with 1 hilly stage left! He’s racing smartly and well! Now we just need to see some fireworks to really explode the GC. He’s got 50 seconds to make up so it’s gotta be some really big fireworks!
Congrats to the breakaway win and another great report!

First of all congratulations to Dave and fj and thanks for your congratulations as well. This is surely a win we didn't expect regarding its fashion and the winner, but no complains from us Also greetings to SotD who gratefully lets Karatsivis ride for us this year on a small wage.
The downside of the day is Teuns losing a minute after staying with the first group in the previous stages and thus losing the chance of a good or even great GC result. So Karatsivis has to fight for the BotD again and compete for the KoM points and another stage win ...

Mixed feelings... On one hand, good to see Bol still in GC contention. But I feel like he might really be the wrong rider to be up there. It's still a mistery to me how better puncheurs (looking at you, Schmid and Theuns) can lose minutes when Bol is still in the mix, but that's just PCM (un)logic I guess...
And Bol really hasn't been great so far. Of course, 3rd on stage 2 was cool, but his positioning was just plain awful in the other three stages. If Dzama can win the bunch sprint on S4, Bol should definitely not be far off - rather ahead tbh.
So I have to hope that S5 isn't actually as tough as the profile looks like, so Bol could still have a shot at a GC Top 10 - because Schmid and Theuns have both completely messed up their GC race and probably won't score a single point there. Barring some breakaway magic of course, which hopefully is on the table now with their time gaps...
Congrats to kb on an amazing stage win - would've been nice by Karatsivis to get his first victory a year earlier though

Matte gives us our 3rd point scoring finish in 4 stages. So can't complain about that.
Stage needed to be harder for his superiority to show but if it was harder maybe the break doesn't stay away.
Only Walscheid in the front group for us. Weaker teams seem to get only one spot at the front and the AI prioritizing the sprinter in our case, a planning lesson for next year. Pretty sure he doesn't survive tomorrow so would be nice to be in the break again.
Congrats to KB on a great win. And thanks to Sean for the reports.

Surprised how strong Hessmann was on that stage till the end coming very close to the stage win even as level 1 rider.
Would have been a huge start to his career.
2nd still more than expected all year from him. Good to see the team active early on. Something that wasn't always the case in the PT.
Vansevenant still in the GC group but yet without bonus seconds, so slowly dropping a bit. He should really use his backups to sprint into those on hillier stages to potentially grab the 8s for the youth jersey. |

Lagane staying nicely in the main group - shame he couldn't do that on the preceeding days. As it is this race is pretty much locked into a zero. Take me back to C2!

Im not a fan of all those easy hilly stages going to the break if that is a tendency that will continue all season long for selfish reasons (Lopez) but it could be especially bad for some punchy sprinters like Demare, Yates, Ackermann, etc
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

One of the joys of having a bad team this year might be that I get value out of out stages with breakaways!
That was a nice set-up for McKenna, pity he couldn't bring it home

Given that there was no mention of Bol all stage long, I was positively surprised to see him finish inside the Top 20 and - more importantly - the group of favorites. I'm still rather unhappy about his sprint performances (bar stage 2 obviously), but if he can hold onto that 6th place, he definitely gets more than expected from this race.
Which unfortunately cannot be said of Schmid, who basically wastes 6 RD here. 3rd in the U25 standings is where I expected him, with Stannard and Vansevenant rightfully ahead of him, but barely Top 25 in the GC isn't enough. Strange to see that he lost time on one of the easier stages when PCM had him as a Top 10 favorite for the hardest one (although he didn't live up to that, either).
Sending Theuns didn't make any impact whatsoever, but I still wouldn't call those RDs wasted, as he "only" really has to deliver on the cobbles, the rest would be bonus points.
Fingers crossed we just get a boring bunch sprint stage with no time gaps tomorrow - maybe with another notable stage result by Bol, would be nice

Simply a disaster-class at one of our favourite races. Houle just being treated as a third-tier sprinter with no HI I guess, and Ramirez is genuinely a negative asset because there's a chance he can get into a successful breakaway and fail to be part of the success. Might be up there with Tom Scully for my least favourite Xero rider of all time if he does that a few more times this year
