This season is torture. I genuinely can’t believe this is another race my riders don’t even bother to compete despite having a GC favourite. Again another potential 100+ point race (like the previous 6) down the drain just because.
I'm afraid that in this particular race (maybe in some others as well), Howard always fell in the "4th-sprinter-trap". Ulrich has documented somehwere that whatever sprinter is identified by PCM as "4th sprinter" will not participate in sprints. I don't know if that's calculated per-stage, or just once per race - and by now I'm not even sure anymore if it really only concerns sprinters or any type of stage favorite.
If that "4th sprinter" changes on a per-stage base, for me it just goes down as yet another "PCM AI randomness". But if it's always the same one, that's obviously highly unfair and just plain frustrating - as it's not your fault that your sprinters just falls in that trap.
Your team obviously was f***ed up by PCM big time in lots of other races as well, where I don't have an explanation, either. I fully understand your frustration - having all your leaders underperform without any apparent reason is just stupid and really frustrating.
The 4th sprinter bug would be gone with PCM22, but other AI failures will unfortunately continue to exist, it seems...

I feel as pre-PCM20 it seemed to be on a per-stage basis which is fine as every sprinter can’t be involved in every single sprint and it wasn’t really a problem. Now it’s definitely just one (sometimes seemingly two) per race for the whole thing - Howard hasn’t bothered here and Guadalupe (and TDU but not sure if that counts. Can’t see why not). Same for Grosu in Qatar so it definitely seems as though it’s either 1 or 2 riders for the entire race. It just sucks as it’s a third or Howard’s race days totally wasted for absolutely no reason - there’s no compensation for continual AI screwing and he doesn’t get those race days back. It sucks

Have to be happy with 2nd going into it but not too happy about the race leader finishing 58th
2 stage wins, a win in the Points and 2nd in the GC is a great result though
Thank you for the reports red!!

Ouch, really hurts to see Jakobsen and Ahlstrand completely miss out on that sprint. PCM AI at its best once again, don't even try to understand anymore ^^
Haller definitely is a surprise GC winner, but congrats to TMM nonetheless. I definitely hope especially Ahlstrand will finally win something to justify his huge paycheck - it feels like he's always almost there but never quite.
On the other hand, Saber continues his huge year, looks like he just needed a change of scene to perform to his stats again. And good to see as well that Kanter at least took the U25 jersey as he should, but still a pretty disappointing race for him.
Commiserations again to Eden, and also partly to cunego, as Silvestre overall is clearly behind expectations, too.
Thanks for the reports, red, was a tense race

Haller on the right side of the RNG and was very lucky to get the GC win here.
Very sorry to see the favourites on the wrong side of the AI weirdness. Its not much fun to win in these circumstances.
On a positive note Kraftwerk managed our depth objective with 4 GC scorers and 3rd in Teams.
And another positive, the great reports, thanks redordead.

Can’t be too disappointed with 3rd for Saber. This will always be the one that got away for him. But still decent points shoring for our main man. Congrats to the winners. And thank you red for the reporting

No complaining about the sprinters this year. Dusan perfectly combining his prologue and sprints to get high in the GC as well. Sweeck with some nice extra points by not losing time.
Thanks for the reports redordead and congrats on the GC DaveTwoBob!

Great win by Haller, also loving the performance by Saber here. Nice coverage by recorded too!

92. | Leigh Howard | Indosat Ooredoo | s.t |
His best result of the race!
15 wasted race days for Howard this season where he has been the victim of the game’s mechanics and nothing else. 1/3 of his RDs. 3 races for one sprinter being screwed by the AI is way too much. Bad form or not being good enough is fine but this is just stupid. Hundreds of potential points in the bin and relegation looming. This shit is going to relegate us and it’s got nothing to do with the rider or planning. Total bs.
Thanks for the reports.

That is definitely the 4th best problem and looking at the field that makes some sense that is where he would fit. I think it is set by stage but since the field doesn't change and recovery doesn't have much impact over a few stages my guess it will be the same guy every stage except maybe in GTs. We didn't notice it last year because the GC leaders not sprinting bug got mixed up with it and may have changed it each stage.
He was not the 4th best sprinter in Guadeloupe. I think his problem there was more not getting the luck you need when there are a horde of 2nd tier sprinters.

Oh ok fair enough, interesting to see if it will be visible in a GT. I don’t think there’s another explanation for Guadalupe though - It can’t be luck if it happens in every single stage to the same rider (if it is, the odds of that kind of bad luck would be astronomical). The fact it’s happened in other races should solidify that too I would think.

We are chasing hard the breakaway, we have Endene, Marin and Naud in the stage's top 30, which means we could have attempted a sprint train, and yet Ahlstrand doesn't sprint. As a matter of fact he finishes in the 47th position. I am beyond pissed off. At least Ahlstrand finished in top 5 GC, but I was expecting more, certainly not just one 2nd place on a stage, so I am disappointed how things turned out here.
Congratulations to DaveTwoBob and thank you very much for the awesome reports!

All in all happy with one stage victory and 7th in GC
Congrats to D2B and thanks for the reports red!
I feel for Eden, that is really painful if it happens with so many races.

Decent race for us with a sub-par team : we have three riders in the top 25 – which is three more than in Guadeloupe – and a nice 4th in a stage by Aberasturi for one of is few (is only?) leading race.
Sarreau was discreet, but is good prologue brings him 21st in the GC, which is as good as it gets.
Thanks for the reports red, congratulations to the winners, and commiseration to those who were fucked up. |

Solid fifth place here for Silvestre from an unusual situation with Lauk as the leadout. GC isn't looking great, but 7th place is only 7 seconds away, that has to be the goal now. Get a podium on one of the two remaining stages and it's possible. Thanks for the nice reports!
We got that stage podium but it was still only enough for 9th overall. That's a pretty disappointing result, consistent with Silvestre so far this season. Unfortunate, but it is what it is. Congrats D2B and thanks for the reports!
