Wow Nothing to separate them, even if it wasn't the craziest edition that finish and images of the two of them will be an iconic one for years and years to come I guess, the two great rivals barely separated at the end. Great race by both

11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Not sure what to think of the crash. On the one hand you have a motard who should have seemingly avoided driving so close to the riders, on the other you have riders looking for any moving object to take advantage of the draft. Most importantly you have Alaphilippe who's eyes are not on the road at that particular moment, which adds to the aura of carelessness it's been building around him in the last few weeks.
In the end though it was an accident, a moment of bad luck. Tired riders + long routes + fast speeds + moving obstacles is always going to be causing crashes.

You can't blame the moto for that one. He's on the very edge of the road, never changing his line and keep a consistent speed. The moto slams its brakes and that impact is even harder and probably takes out VDP as well. But as it didn't move how can you blame it?
WVA is stealing every second of draft he can, only moving at the last second. You can see VDP barely avoids it by a tiny margin, Alaphilippe is totally unsighted and bang!
If the Moto was piece of sign or tree hanging over the edge of the road, might as well have been a parked car, you'd get the same result. They have to keep their eyes up for their own safety (Ala) and keep each other aware of hazards (WVA).
Just like in F1 when a car doesn't move off the start, the next guy just has room to move, but the blind car thrid in line goes bang. You don't really blame anyone, you just hope it doesn't happen.

Not the most exciting edition of De Ronde but what a sprint that was between MVDP and WVA! Hopefully we'll get to see a lot more battles between them in basically all classics in the future.
