Heres a quick reminder of the route in total before we go into
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JH_5eE...eEcpaFw&v3
Stage 5 : Chablis-Autun / 182.5km
This is not a very hard stage but there are a few hills. The Haut-Folin, a second-class one, is the longest and steepest (about 10km long and with a tough gradient) of the day. It is on a forestry road and you are nearly 900m up at the summit. This climb bears similarities with the Mont Malgré Tout in the Côte du Critérium, in the Ardennes. Once at the top (less than 50km from the finish), we plunge quite quickly on to Autun, with a final hump at 8km to go. I can see a small group breaking away, since on such a terrain, with roads that do not respond, sprinting teams are going to have a hard time controlling the pack. This could be a tricky stage.
So what do you think. Soon our expert pannel will be here helping anwser some of your questions. Ill put some route pictures up soon.
(Well i wanted to embed the youtube video but oh well) |

well, here's my own thoughts about tomorrow' stage:
Given the up and down terrain, a sprint is far from guaranteed, but there are a few circumstances which will certainly contribute towards the uncertainty of how the stage will progress:
CSC definitely want to defend the jersey. they have been working hard and their men are a bit spent. not that much, however.
The ideal tactic would of course be to try to place a man in the break so as not to need to chase.
However, Carlos Sastre being the team leader, I doubt that will happen, as he feels strongly against that. he considers it to be imoral, and that a team must work for any success it achieves. I need only remind you of his very angry reactions at Caisse using such a tactic on pretty much every stage at the last Vuelta.
The fact that a sprint finish is far from certain, will turn the sprinters teams to a "wait and see" attitude, making CSC the only team willing to work. this may very well have a snowball effect.
as such, tomorrow is a good day for attackers, as CSC will try desperately to defend a lead that might very well be slipping. after all, they only have a certain number of men, while every other team will want to have at least one man in the break.
Most of all Discovery who have a number of men very well placed from the prologue, and as such will likely go for the glory of yellow.
Conclusion: the break just might make it, and we just might see a new yellow jersey. especially since Kim Andersen is a smart man and as such will NOT bury his team chasing. |

Yeh i also get the feeling a golden break might do something a few interviews i heard of said that CSC arnt going to chase hard because they are worried about wearing the team out before the alps...

it would be sensible for them not to work at all really, Cancellara has no chance of making it to Paris in yellow so they should just save their team for the mountains and hope for a podium

CSC would do well to let the break go. they've fulfilled the sponsor's and Cancellara's hopes.
Sastre (as evidenced by his TT prowess...or lack thereof) is of the contenders, the least well adapted to the flat. they would do well to take it slow and rest him. |

CSC
The Team
Computer Science Corporation, the first software firm to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
Not bad. Nine stage wins in their seven Tours, including the victory at l'Alpe d'Huez last year for Fränk Schleck, two podium appearances with Ivan Basso, two King of the Mountains title wins with Laurent Jalabert, plus the team standings in 2003. Currently they head the ProTour rankings.
Past controversies
CSC have one of the strictest anti-doping policies in the peloton and have never had a positive test. However, the Puerto files named Basso and Tyler Hamilton and questions are being asked about their time with the team. And the presence of the former Tour "winner" Bjarne Riis is a PR shambles.
Budget
£4.7m is enough for the bikes and still leaves change for the IT bloke to buy himself a Pot Noodle and a can of Tizer.
The boss
Riis was the first finisher in the 1996 Tour but is no longer the winner after he confessed in May to five years' drug use. The Dane has been a progressive manager, taking his team on commando-style training camps, but he is now a liability.
Team Leader
Carlos Sastre, a Spanish climber who has crept into the top 10 in four of the past five Tours, came into his own last year after Basso was thrown off the race. He's touchingly loyal to Riis: "I have total faith in Bjarne," he recently insisted, before jamming his fingers in his ears and lalala-ing at the top of his voice. His father runs a cycle shop.
Wild Man of The Team
The German Jens Voigt is the Tour's ultimate escape artist, with a penchant for getting in lengthy, impossible-looking breaks and making them succeed.
They’ll be happy with
Sastre on the podium, Fabian Cancellara winning the prologue. They’ve done one!!!

Fans will paint on the road
"Riis had dodgy piis"

no need to write all names for the spanish guys...I have no idea why you english types always do that...
also, CSC's budget last season was 16.5€ million. I very much doubt it's decreased
