The last stage to Paris was actually quite dramatic, both for our team and other top guys in the peleton.

Silence Lotto - Tour De France 2008
Stage 20: Étampes - Paris/Champs Élysées, 143km Flat
The last stage of the tour, both Robbie and Cadel looked focused on the start line, will we see Silence Lotto take revenge?
The maillot jaune Alberto Contador and the leader of the mountain classification Alejandro Valverde on their way to Paris
Gianpaulo Cheula from Barloworld is first to reach Paris but the peleton is not far behind.
¨
A happy peleton has reached Paris, now it's all about the sprint.
Alberto Contador and Cadel Evans has a friendly chat at the Champs Elysees
But what's this, a desperate Cadel Evans attacks the peleton in his quest for yellow.
With 10.5kms to go it's Cadel againsts Astana. The odds are against Evans.
That didn't last too long, but atleast Evans showed how much a tour victory means to him. Behind Robbie McEwen is getting ready
for the sprint.
But what's this!!!!!!!!! George Hincapie has crashed and has brought Robbie McEwen, a disaster for Silence Lotto.
Robbie is obviously in pain. Shocking pictures
Disaster for Micheal Rogers and Riccaro Ricco who have also crashed, they are behind McEwen!!!!!!!!
The sprints has started, Petacchi looks good
And yes, Allesandro Petacchi takes the sprint victory on the Champs Elysees
A very unlucky Robbie McEwen finishes together with Matthew Lloyd. Rogers and Ricco are further back. This means Rogers will
lose his 4th spot on the GC. What a shame.
The results of the Champs Elysees stage
Petacchi was the deserved winner
Next tour wrap up, reactions and results from the Silence Lotto afterparty. |

Silence Lotto - Tour De France 2008 Wrap up
Another tour over and what a exiting race it was, the yellow yersey fight between Alberto Contador and Cadel Evans will
be remembered for a long time, and many fans are already looking forward to next years battle. Christian Prudhomme says
this years tour was a great event, because of the exiting parcours, the exiting race and the fact that the peleton was
cleaner than ever before. " We are winning the fight against doping and that such riders as Cadel Evans is so high in the GC
is a sign that the peleton has become cleaner" says Prudhomme.
Alberto Contador took home his second yellow yersey and the spaniards second victory in a row will be celebrated on Tuesday
in Madrid where massive crowds are ready to hounour the Astana rider.
The Mountains classification was won by another spaniard Alejandro Valverde, who also became 5th in the GC
Alberto Contador also took home the point jersey
And in great style also the white jersey.
CSC was the best team, while Silence Lotto was 7th
Reactions from the team leaders and competitors:
Team Manager Silence Lotto Henrik Redant
" Of course we are dissapointed, we could smell the yellow yersey in Paris, but in the end we just had to admit that
Contador was better. Cadel raced to his limits and when he was beaten by Contador in both time trials it was the strongest rider
who won in Paris. But Cadel will probably be back next year in even better shape to challenge Contador. I would also
like to thank Robbie McEwen who raced a great tour almost by himself and brought the team two stage wins. Thanks also
to the whole team, crew, sponsors and fans who have followed us and cheered us on in this unforgettable tour".
Alberto Contador Astana 1 GC
" This is a dream come true to me, to win my second tour over a great compadre and friend like Cadel Evans is great.
I have to thank my whole team and ecpecially Johan Bruyneel who has guided my through this tour. I would have never won
without him. Also big thanks to Andreas Klöden who sacrificed himself 100% for me and gave up his own ambitions. This shows
the wonderful team spirit that my Team Astana has".
Alejandro Valverde Caisse D'Espargne 5th GC First in Mountain competition
" Another great tour for me, abselutely spectacular. After my win in the Giro, I wasn't sure if i was at a 100% for this
tour but i suprised myself. Even i couldn't have predicted 3 stage wins, 5th in the GC and the Mountain Competition.
I'm overwhelmed. Now I will prepare myself for the Vuelta and the World Championships, if i'm not too tired".
Micheal Rogers Team High Road 6th GC
" Today was awful, too lose two places on the GC on the last stage was horrible. But overall i'm extremely satisfied with my
tour. After my win in the tt yesterday I have now realised that i can win the tour someday. Next year I will come
back stronger.
An in depth interview with Cadel Evans presented by Cycling News.
CN: Cadel how does it feel to be 2nd for the second year in a row ?
CE: Well it's hard to explain. I feel sad no doubt about, at the same time i'm really happy to have arrived in Paris. I have
so many emotions right now and I think I need some time to think about the tour.
CN: What went wrong yesterday?
CE: I just wasn't fresh enough, i guess you can say i raced more with my heart than with my legs. Contador was better and
I have to accept that.
CN: The time gap was again very small. Last year it was 23s now it was 29s. Where you closer this year?
CE: I felt closer because I had the maillot jaune and all i had to do was to ride a defensive tt.
CN: What about next year?
CE: I need a little time to think about it, but i hope i will be back next year. I've still got 3 or 4 tours left in me.
CN: What are your plans for the reast of the season?
CE: Tomorrow I will go on vacation, and the i will prepare myself for the Vuelta Espana.
CE: I will also use this interview to thank all the people who have supported me during this tour. The biggest thanks to my
wife Ciara who is the most important thing in my life. I would also like to thank the whole Silence Lotto team and
last but not least all the aussie fans who have supported me during this tour. Thank you guys!!!!!!!!
Team Silence Lotto After party - Tour De France
Silence Lotto would like to thank Cadel Evans and the whole time for their wondeful performance in France during the last three
weeks. THe team has shown sportmanship and has fought all the way to Paris. We too were sad after Cadel lost his jersey but when you
look closer you see that the whole team has done an incredible job. We will continue to support Cadel in the coming tours.
McEwen ok after crash
Robbie McEwen was seen dancing and enjoying himself at the Silence Lotto afterparty, a good sign after his scary chrash.
" i was right behind George Hincapie when he fell but luckely I wasn't too hurt. But I really think I could have challenged Petacchi
for the stage win If i had not crashed. But anyway I'm satisfied with my two stage wins".
Yaroslav Popovych was also in good spirits after the tour. " My start to the tour was not ideal, I had a cold but I gradually
became better and i am satisfied with my 11th place overall. Altough I would have liked to have helped Cadel more in the
first mountain stages.
Evans slips at the Tour After Party
Reports have appereaded saying that Tour runner up Cadel Evans slipped at the Silence Lotto after party and injured his knee.
The team doctor sais Evans knee is a little banged up but that he should be ok to race the Clasica San Sebastian. |

Evans beaten by Contador on a flat 50km TT? that's a weird database you've got there.
The preceding post is ISSO 9001 certified

Yeah I did that but Evans just wasn't good enough. And Zimao91, Lövkvist was nr 18 in the tour, 23'40 behind Contador, he was also 10th in The Tour De Suisse. |

That's right, the original database gives Evans a too low tt stat and too high in mountain But I also think that Contador is equal to Evans in time trials in real life now, so maybe it's not too bad. Clasica San Sebastian and GP Plouay will be up shortly |

Silence Lotto 2008
Clasica San Sebastian 239km Hilly
Our first race since the tour and Evans and Popovych are at the start to fight against Bettini, Rebellin and Schleck.
The peleton is all together when the race hits the Jaizkabel
Cadel Evans sets of in puirsuit after Sammy Sanchez and Franck Schleck on the top of the Jaizkabel
Sanchez is using his decending skills while Schleck is hanging on for his life. The pair has a small lead to a group
including Evans and Popovych.
Seven kms from the finish it's a group of 19 that's in front with Caisse D'Espargne leading the pace. Cadel Evans is in
the group but is too tired too attack.
The sprint is off with Visconti leading out world champ Paolo Bettini. Evans tries too sprint but clearly lacks the speed
And it's Bettini who wins it in front of his team mate Visconti, a great day for Quick Step.
Cadel on the other hand was satisfied with being in the Bettini group, he got 17th in the end.
Gp Plouay 210km Hilly
Cadel Evans is back, in only his second race after the Tour De France. Cadel seemed really motivated to test his form
at the start before the Vuelta Espana. Jurgen Van Den Broeck also makes his return to racing after a long break.
Bazaayev and Blaadzun are in the early breakaway of the day, they had 9 minutes at the most.
But 34 kms from the goal it's all over for the two, now let the real race start
Luis Leon Sanchez has attacked together with Pineau and Evans but no one has managed to escape
12.5 kms from the finish and Moreau, Lastras, Casar and Moncoutie holds a small advantage. Moreau seems back to top form
after an injury in August.
The 4 has been caught again, and Cadel Evans attacks, he feels really strong.
But Pineau has countered the move and it looks like a two man sprint finish.
But look, Evans has attacked again!!!!!!! He knows Pineau is better in sprint finish. Go Cadel!!!!!!!!
Cadel has 1km to go and looks good for a big victory in France.
But it's not over, Pineau is coming very fast from behind, it's not over yet.
Evans is chased by 4 guys but he's only got 300m left.
Yes!!!!!!!!! Cadel Evans wins the GP Plouay. A faboulous victory
Cadel won the race in front of Pineau and Casar
Evans wins the Gp Plouay
Cadel Evans have won the GP Plouay after a wonderful solo attack 4kms from the finish. " This is a nice revenge from the
Tour De France, finally I got a victory and it feels good". " I knew i had to attack Pineau because he is better than me in
a sprint finish and it worked. This gives me confidence and motivation before the Vuelta Espana wich I hope to won this year. |

Vuelta Espana
The 2008 Vuelta promises to be an exiting won with a interesting parcours and top competitors from all the teams.
Alberto Contador goes for victory in the vuelta where he will also meet his biggest rival Cadel Evans. Other favourites
are Franco Pelizotti, Denis Menchov and Michael Rogers who is in a extremely good shape.
Evans, Contador and Leipheimer will fight in Spain
Silence Lotto will support Cadel Evans while Robbie McEwen will go for the sprint finishes.
Jurgen Van Den Broeck and Dario Cioni are also present to support Cadel in the mountains.
The Angliru is back!!!!!!!!
In the 13th stage the riders will face the Angliru, with it's 23% slope. No doubt that the riders are scared of this
monster mountain, and it's probably here Contador, Evans and Menchov will try to secure the Vuelta win.
Yes it's steep on the Angliru |

Vuelta 2008
Stage 1:
The Vuelta started with a 8km team time trial, (i simmed it because i thought it was a prologue)
CSC won with Marcus Ljungquist taking yellow, Silence Lotto placed 5th, 30s back.
Stage 2,3 and 4 where flat sprint stages( a bit boring) where Bettini, Rojas Gil and Benatti won. McEwen is in bad shape and will probably
abandon soon. Next stage is a 41km tt where Cadel will be hoping to place in the top 5.
Deutschland Tour:
The Deutschland tour meanwhile has gotten underway. Alejandro Valverde leads after 5 stages and Il Imbatimbo looks set to take another tour
victory this year. Simply phenomenal. Yaroslav Popovych has raced a great tour and is in 5th, 2'00 behind Valverde. |

Vuelta Espana
Stage 5: Ciudad Real 41km tt
The first real test of the Vuelta and the first battle between Contador and Evans. The biggest favourite today though is
Michael Rogers from High Road.
Cadel Evans is starting the race, he looks focused.
Contador is fourth at the first time check, while Evans is 19th, 33 seconds back. This looks a lot like the tour.
But Evans is improving, he is now catching his team mate Jurgen Van Den Broeck, Evans is 1'34 behind Michael Rogers who
is rocking the time trial again.
Evans has finished in 6th place, while Conta is third. Evans has lost 27s to Contador which is not so bad afterall. It will
be minutes in the mountains.
Michael Rogers again the winner of a tt, he is one of the biggest favourites for the GC.
Cadel ends up in 7th place, 1'28 behind Michael Rogers, but i think he rode better than in the last tt in France.
Deutschland Tour
Sonthofen - Sölden 158km Mountain
One of the higest and biggest mountain top finishes on the route today, the climb to Sölden is only beaten by the
Alto D'Angliru in difficulty. Popovych hopes to climb up from his 5t place in GC.
Hary and Willems have started the climb to Sölden, but the peleton is not far behind.
Frank Schleck has attacked, and now Valverde, Klöden and Popovych counter-attack!!!!!!
Popovych has been dropped by the other three, but he's limiting his losses well together with Martinez and De Bonis.
Now Popovych and Martinez are on their way up to the leading group, but Schleck realises that and attacks again.
Schleck, Valverde and Klöden is still in front, but look how close Popovych is who now has Gomez Marchante for company.
The sprint is on, and it's Schleck who wins it, in front of Valverde and Klöden.
Gomez Marchante and Popovych takes 4th and 5th, 1'03 behind Schleck. A great ride from Yaroslav!!!!!!!!!!
A great win for Schleck |
