Having flown back to Britain, I have been invited to take part in the Isaac Galvez memorial race at the Revolution 20 event. I had originally planned to skip the Revolution but now I will ride the memorial race instead - only skipping the sprint events.
Also riding will be:
Joan Llaneras (Spain)
José Antonio Escuredo (Spain)
Dmitri de Fauw (Belgium)
Iljo Keisse (Belgium)
Jens Mouris (Netherlands)
Peter Schep (Netherlands)
Alex Rasmussen (Denmark)
Michael Morkov (Denmark)
Franco Marvulli (Switzerland)
Gregory Bauge (France)
Chris Newton (Great Britain)
Mark Cavendish (Team Columbia)
Bradley Wiggins (Team Columbia)
Peter Kennaugh (100% Me)
Jonathan Bellis (100% Me)

This Isaac Galvez memorial race will be a lottery. Here we go!
Jens Mouris was the first to fail
Peter Schep, his teammate, almost joined him but Schep and Escuredo finished quickly so Iljo Keisse is out
Marvulli is next to go
Belgian interest ends with De Fauw's elimination
Then the Dutch hopes end too, Schep is out
Its so far so good for me, but here I am boxed in with a lap to the next elimination
Fortunately, Im able to go up and over the top - but Chris Newton is the first British casualty
Michael Morkov is next off
While Jonathan Bellis bids us goodbye next time around
Just half the riders left, and I take a more powerful relay at the front which stretches the group for the first time at elimination time. Alex Rasmussen is caught out
Tighter again next time - much tighter. But while I crossed in first, Mark Cavendish is out - just pipped on the line by Bauge
A split in the pack! I am amongst the 4 riders on the good side of the split but Kennaugh and Escuredo are not. Kennaugh does enough to survive
Once again Kennaugh is in trouble at the next elimination, but he just gets across the line infront of Bradley Wiggins
But in a tight finish in the next elimination, Kennaugh's luck has ran out, leaving just myself, Bauge and Llaneras
Having done incredibly well, in my opinion, to still be in it. My time for elimination has come - my body just isnt built for these long efforts
So just 2 remain in the Isaac Galvez Memorial. Joan Llaneras was the late Galvez' partner in the Madison how fitting it would be for him to win. Its neck-a-neck with a lap to go.
Llaneras gets a little gap but with no sense of deceny, Bauge pulls it back and edges past on the line
Bauge may celebrate but he is booed by the crowd, who had all wanted Llaneras to win, regardless of their nationality.
The result:

So today I have the Keirin and in the Semi finals I was drawn against Lynch, Blatchford, Chiappa, Bourgain and Ng Onn Lam.
I moved myself to the back at the end of the first lap
Things started to build up on the back straight
I had some work to do to latch back on to Chiappa but I managed it as the bell rang out for a lap to go
I went around Chiappa and then Lynch gifted me a space as he went even wider!
Having led all race, Blatchford faded over the back straight and Bourgain took the lead on the inside, with me still on the outside
I got on terms with the frenchman but it was very close. He just pipped me but what matters is that I am through to the final
The winner of the LA World Cup Keirin, Teun Mulder also is through from the other semi final, alongside Chris Hoy and Jason Kenny

Its really sad that a man with a name like "Ng Onn Lam" couldn't qualify...

Its time for the final of the Keirin! Myself, Mulder, Bourgain, Hoy, Kenny, and Chiappa.
I wasnt intending to lead out though, so got myself in a much better position
Im 2nd with a lap to go, behind Bourgain. Hoy is on my right - he had better not block me
But with no sense at all, and ignoring the British gameplan, Hoy and Kenny go and box me in.
I manage to get myself out by the final bend and Hoy has a oerfect run at the line. Can he justify himself for blocking me?
No he cannot, Hoy fades and although Kenny goes for it down the inside, Mulder wins the race. Its a bronze medal for me.

To comment on the most recent race. Unlucky that Hoy blocked you in, but good bronze |
