And we're into the Challenge Vuelta a Mallorca. We'll use this race to get some racedays on some of our riders. It's also one of Astalozas preferred races so we'll try and do well with him. Flat as a pancake for the first stage though.
The race is being run at high speed. A few have tried to break away but noone never got any distance. We' join the action at the 20km mark.
Everything stays together untill.. the peleton splits as chaos ensues all over! Crashes all over the peleton. A group breaks of and Astarloza is in it! With only 3.9km to go there's absolutely nothing we can do but watch the mayhem. Zabel was one of the first to go down. But then...
Absolute carnage! tom Danielson brings down 13 riders just as the pack splits in half.. there are riders everywhere.. som are getting up, some aren't! At least Fernandez and Landaluze made it into the first group!
Another look at the chaos
Fernandez has found the wheel of Boonen.. but it quickly becomes apparent that Boonen is much much too strong as he pulls away from Fernandez!
Boonen is shooting forward and Fernandez has to fend for himself.
More crashes as another FDJ rider samples the local roadwork.
Weylandts cheers on his captain as he crosses the line in a comfortable win.
Unbelivable.. Tom Danielson alone out on the road crashes AGAIN 1200 meters from home... not a good day for the american! Agirre managed to injure himself in the crash. We'll see if how bad it is before deciding if he rides or not.

(Sorry, forgot the profile Stage 2!
Awfully quiet the first 100km or so. Then Jens Voigt jumped from the peleton, Jufre and another rider attempted to follow him but couldn't. Here at 30km from the finish, Jens enjoys quite a gap between him and the peleton.
Again today we've got crashes. They're dropping out the back of the peleton as they bite the dust.
11,6 to go and Jens is caught. Kolde Fernandez is feeling great! Landaluze delivers him at the front of the peleton.
3km, Gutierrez has a small gap! Kolde Fernandez has to move right now if he is to catch anyone. He ignores the other sprinters and just goes with everything he's got!
With 800 meters to go he's caught Gutierrez and Poitschke...
And he blazes by them! Great result for us. 2nd stagewin of the year.. and done in style!

great job completing all those stages on one day, and great results as well.
Will follow this story. At least until I can start playing on my own. |

I salute you, sir. I'm doing the very same races with Gerolsteiner and with a sprinter of the approximate quality (Forster), and let me tell you: it's frustrating to get a decent sprint result.
Either the wind is at 70kmh/h and as a result there's no organised sprint and someone like Arvesen or Baldato wins....or Forster is dead by the time the sprint comes around. I only managed to get him to participate in 2 sprints so far. but I did get a 1st and a 2nd
So, in short: I appreciate the difficulty of what you're doing

Worst is actually getting all of it on camera and trying to keep an eye on everything while getting the good shots that depict the proceedings well. Have less time to boss the lads around
Edit: Has anyone got export results to work?! Having to screen everything is a pain.

use the replay. play the stage, then hit "replay" and take screens from the replay

And we're of on stage 3. It's bumpy ride today with a bit of climbing and an uphill finish. Kolde Fernandez wont be able to be at the very front in the finish. But maybe Astarloza and Landaluze will. Here we are with 77km to go. Verdugo is in the break with 12 other riders. Smaller groups are scattered behind the front group and the peleton.
And Agirre has to abandon the race on the climb. He was suffering too much under his injuries sustained during stage 1, and he gets in the team car. Tough luck for Agirre.
Also, we're in yellow today as Koldo Fernandez' win yesterday was enough to snatch the jersey from Boonen. We might be able to keep it for another day if it doesn't split too much on the last hill.
44km to go and it's downhill for a while here. Verdugo has stopped relaying as he's noticing some familiar faces joining the group. Visconti, Aerts and Danielson are with us now.
It's quiet for the next 30km as the peleton break down the lead of the escapees. Danielson doesn't see eye to eye with the pack though and goes on his own with 10km to go. Verdugo attempts to follow him but to no avail.
And we catch a lucky break, just as the peleton catches the remainder of the breakaway, we're trying to reposition our 3 main riders. However, Caisse take their foot of the gas a second too early and we gain a few meters advantage with 4.4km to go! Kolde Fernandez will never be able to go for an attack up this hill but Astarloza has the time he lost on stage 1 in mind. He fancies his chances and goes for it!
With 1,3km to go Mikel has Danielson within range and a 20 second gap on the peleton! Great move by Mikel Asterloza!
700 meters to go. Astarloza has almost caught Danielson. Devolder is distancing himself from the rest of the peleton!
And Astarloza takes it! Heartbreak for Danielson as he beaten within the last metres. You almost feel sorry for the American after that nightmare he went through in stage 1.
Devolder takes care of 3rd, Valverde 4th and Landaluze manages to take 5th spot.
Good ride by him! Fernandez couldn't follow the puncheurs as they went up the hill.

I just re-read your TDU. lucky bastard, mine had 60-70 km winds most stages, making bunch sprints impossible (the sprinters "died" in the wind) and the field had Freire, Boonen, Hushovd, etc.
anyway, what are your expectations for each of the 3 guys for the GTs?
