We really really REALLY need a sarcasms smiley. Mike, are you reading? Using a smiley right after a sarcasm makes it lose almost all its value. |

The tour of shenandoah has been cancelled
Less importantly, so has the Tour of Megalomania (america, whatever)

CAS has a new head honcho and it isn't Pound. As long as it isn't Pound i don't care who they are.

I don't care if Bettini is doped, watching him go down that downhill at Giro di Lombardia made me a fan

It hasn't been canceled, just set back a year.

He wasn't even close. He got 9 votes, and his rival got 19 or something like that (I read it yesterday evening, so I don't remember the exact result) |

Riders have still not been paid prize money for TdF 07
From Cyclingnews.com
Amid threats of legal action, the Association of Professional Cyclists (CPA) asked again for an explanation from the French Cycling Federation (FFC) as to why its riders had not been fully paid their prize money from the 2007 Tour de France.
In accordance with UCI regulation C, Article 1.2.072, the riders had expected to be paid within 90 days of the end of the race or by October 27, 2007. (UCI Regulation C, Article 1.2.072). However, the CPA said in a press release Wednesday that so far only prizes related to the general classification had been paid thus far, and only to foreign racers.
"The CPA sent one more mail to Mr. Jean Pitallier [president of the French Cycling Federation - ed.], after the one it already sent last February 24, asking him to explain..." said the press release. The CPA also called for the FFC to explain what it would do with the interest it has been earning on the money since October 27, 2007 and noted that it had already profitted from interest earned between June 2007, when race organiser ASO paid it the prize money, through October 26.
The CPA indicated it may take legal action in an effort to get the prize money paid if no reply is received within eight days. Previously, Cyclingnews reported that the delay was allegedly pending resolution of the sentences for riders like [Alexander] Vinokourov, [Cristian] Moreni, [Iban] Mayo, [Patrik] Sinkewitz and [Michael] Rasmussen – the first three who tested positive during the 2007 Tour de France and Rasmussen, who was forced to abandon by his team following questionable whereabouts in the race's lead-up.
The FFC is currently in financial distress, as it lost a lawsuit over 1 million euro in damages to be paid to Patrice Sulpice, who crashed while training in preparation for the Worlds in Colombia in 1995 and now sits in a wheelchair. |

They had better get their act together or the ASO may have to go crawling back to the UCI. Not likely, I know, but you never know if the FFC went bankrupt... |

Well well well, Ale-jet has been suspended by his own team for not showing effort at Hel van Het Mergelland and abandoning after an hour. This can't bode well for his season.
Many thanks to fagulha for pointing this out to me

Read that a few days ago, yes. Well done by the management
Also, Mazzoleni has now been given a 2 year suspension. |

Quite irrelevant considering he's retired.

You never know. I have still not seen Vinokourov being banned, meaning that he suddenly "re-appear" at the Olympics. I wouldn't be surprised if that happened. Therefore, I'm pro giving suspensions to doped riders even though they have retired |

Vinokourov handed one-year ban for blood doping
By Gregor Brown
Kazakh Alexander Vinokourov is suspended until July 2008 by his country's federation.
Kazakh Alexander Vinokourov had been handed a one-year ban today, December 6, from the sport by his country's federation stemming from his positive test for a homologous blood transfusion during this year's Tour de France. The 34 year-old, winner of 2006 Vuelta a España and 2005 Liège-Bastogne-Liège, will potentially be able to return in time to race the 2008 Olympics as his ban will expire in July.
Similar case have resulted in two-year suspensions by riders' federations, and the 12-month ban for the rider who won the Albi time trial and Le Louron stage of this year's Tour seems light in comparison. The International Cycling Union (UCI) could appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), in addition, 'Vino' will be barred from racing with a ProTour team for four years.
"Documents and evidence presented by Vinokourov and his lawyers were not convincing," Kazakh federation vice-president Nikolai Proskurin said to AFP. "We decided to disqualify him for a year."
"I think that should he want to, Vinokourov will be able to take part in the Olympic Games in Beijing." Vinokourov finished second in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
Following Vinokourov's positive blood doping control, he was suspended by the Kazakh-sponsored, Switzerland-based Team Astana. The team subsequently withdrew from the French Grand Tour, and was hit with the blood doping news of Vinokourov's compatriot, Andrey Kashechkin in August. |

Oh, right. I forgot that. It doesn't change the fact, though, that he can still take part in the Olympics. |

I agree, what was the rationalization for a 1 YEAR BAN?? Did I miss something, should be 2 years, plus the 4 for ProTour (not that there will be a ProTour in 4 yrs).
Haven't heard anything about the UCI appealing to CAS. Of course as the Olympics get closer perhaps they will try to appeal at the last moment, sort of like the Worlds last year...sort of |
