Road to the Top [Training Journal]

That's quite impressive, at least to me.

I played soccer in high school and had to run 2-miles on the track for warm-ups before each practice. The goal set by coach was always to finish under 14 minutes. In peak form my best time was like 13:30ish. Although it took me like the first month the season for me to break that 14 minute barrier.

Keep up the good work and keeping us informed, it's really cool to read. Wink

Another good piece. Please keep up the work, it's always cool to read these posts!

Your form seems to be good already. Could be a great season for you!
I always struggle with those mile distances and times but those times look quite good!

One question: How does form planning work in the NCAA? Do you aim to have a proper peak at some point of the season to get personal bests or to be at a high when some kind of goal race is or do you try to keep a high form over as many races as possible ?
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

No, the goal is to peak on Oct. 31st at conference championships and hold that form for 2 weeks until regionals are over!

Right now we just aim to keep slowly building up Smile

RACE RESULTS

Run Summary:

Here we are for the second race of the season! I actually tempo ran this one today like I was supposed to, which in part describes the slower time. I finished 2nd on my team this week and was in fact the only one who was slower this week. The rainy weather did not help because I do not wear spikes, so wearing Asics trainers through the muddy terrain and wet grass does not help much. Started out like last week, dead last for the first little bit because of everyone running through the 4 inch deep mud puddles, and me in the back dodging them anyway possible. As I worked my way up to teammate Ryan, we started picking off guys 1 by 1.

I was making relatively good ground, my first 2 miles were almost identical to last weeks race. I slowed it down to avoid any injury (this is where I got hurt last year), and still brought home a pretty good time. Next week we will run at St. Vincent (Where Pittsburgh Steelers hold training camp every year). This is also where we will run conference championships at this year. Will be good to get some experience at the course. It is very very hilly.

Easy runs coming Mon, Wed, Fri this week with a workout Tues & Thurs that haven't quite been specified yet. Stay tuned to the first page of this thread for day by day run updates! Smile

Run Summary:

The third race of the race takes us to the same place we will be visiting next month for the conference championships. One of our teammates missed the bus (Ryan), so we were one short for the second week in a row. I started off fairly strong, running with the same teammate I did in Week 1 who died after a mile (it took him like 2 miles to die this time)[Drew]. As you can see from the map above, it is a very hilly course with 1 very steep hill that you ascend 3 times.

I felt very good, and I was running with the same pack from miles 1-3 when they all began speeding up. I joined them of course, but I had a little more and started picking people off 1 by 1. It will be interesting to see how I run at this very same course next month. Besides that, I felt very good. A strong race, and I will continue to improve as the weeks go on. Smile

Run Summary:

It was a great workout just a month before the conference championships. Our coach told us prior that this might be the most important workout of the year, because what you do 4 weeks before a race is what shows up on the race day. Our team is still looking bleak, and while our coach remains confident, there is almost no doubt that we will be finishing 9 out of 9 at the meet on Halloween morning.

As far as the workout goes, I felt very good. My range was 4:04 - 4:25, and I hit it every time! I did this workout once this year where my goal time was in the range of 4:50, so you can see how much I have been improving. If you check out the first page of this thread you will see how much I have improved this year and how much I have been running recently. With October underway now, it is time to buckle down.

I did a long run this past Saturday, and I can confidently say it is the longest I have ran at one time in a very long time. 8 miles at almost 7:30 pace makes me tremendously happy and confident. I am hoping to carry this into the indoor season, where I am hoping to do good things. Smile

Run Summary:

Hell. That is one word I used to summarize my season worst run. The gigantic hill that we had to run twice proved too much to handle as I came to a 30th place out of 64 finish and a season worst 3rd on my team. I won't complain, it will make me stronger for conferences. But I am hoping that our bye week this week will make us stronger as I try to PR next week.

This week has been good training. We did 2 workouts we have already done this year that I did significantly better on. Both times! Thanks for the thumbs up on these posts by the way, it lets me know you guys actually see them and are still following along with me. Indoor track should be much more exciting and better for me results wise. But this will not be ending anytime soon!

Run Summary

I did it! I ran a PR! By over an entire minute! This run was about 3 weeks ago from this post. I felt excellent. Given, we ran with mostly D2 runners, which is why my finishing position was so bad. This is by far the easiest and best course we will ever run on, which is why my PR is/was so good.

Overall, I was so happy to finish with the time I did. It shows how far I have come and how good I am performing this year compared to others. My momentum was building strong, and my pace was consistent.

Conferences were approaching just 2 weeks after this race. They have already happened in real life, and I will have a report on that race coming very soon.

I am also in the process of updating my running-log online log, which will slowly be a transition over the winter months. My first post running log on this thread is now updated for now!
