Zabel second and Denifl in the front, this looks really positive for my team. Too bad Brändle missed the split, but you can't get everything.
I feel we have been doing a good job stealing a few points here and there this season, without any wins yet. Hopefully a stage win or something will come soon.
Degenkolb was without doubt the strongest sprinter in the end

Nice to see Guardini finally taking part in the sprint. He looked completely dead in the end, but still 6th place is great given the past experience with him. Congrats to Pokerstars for show of power.
Shame that Karnulin lost some time already in his top30 GC fight.
Hopefully Guardini can show himself also in 3rd stage, maybe with a top5 this time?
Thanks for the report!

And thanks for the report, Gustavovskiy! Though, I think Venchi might disagree slightly on "no GC riders loosing contact", as Duarte was 4'22 behind. He was obviously not a threat for a top 10 anyway, but still their leader.
Ditto for Fothen. Was quite surprised when I saw him down there with Duarte. At least Ratiy is performing well so far. He had a great prologue.
I'm sorry for missing that guys. I spotted that early split and I'm sure they weren't there. There must have been a late crash which I sincerely missed with the sprint preparation. My honest apologies guys

Bruno Santos...Wow..I mean I think it's cool when something like this happens, but really Kump finishes 90th when Santos wins...fuck me...
Well done Smowz.

Bennati, so close
Would have loved to see him winning, even though Meiji and Oz are likely to fight in the same half of the rankings eventually. Santos though.. Gratz, Smowzy. He ain't the most reliable sprinter, but sometimes he comes up with a huge performance.
Kump, yeah. Hasn't really done anything special in the past year, has he?

Finally, thats more like it! Too bad we just got beat at the end, but it was a tense finish. Love the pace of these reports, thanks a lot

Close for Bennati, didn't really expect Santos to win a sprint this year. Good result for Smowz
Zabel with another podium, felt he was boxed in so pretty happy with third. Might've been able to really fight for the win with better positioning. Really happy with his consistent performance this year, no wins yet but already 3 podiums
Now.... Bring on the climbing!

Bruno Santos is just awesome.
He uses to overperform in a couple of sprints every season. |

Santos you beauty, I orginally had Guerao down for this race, but adjusted his schedule slightly and it left Santos as my lead sprinter here.
Certainly didn't expect much from him and really nice for my lead out guy to nab a win in such a sprint. You do have to feel sorry for the actual sprinters mind you, I meam Vanderbiest had that served on a platter for him - I know his team is named after an elderly Yorkshire man but still.... let's have a look at what you could have won.
Second thoughts I don't feel sorry for main sprinters pttth.

Nice road block by Vanderbiest and Guardini, they almost capitalized from that, but were overcomed in the end by bunch of faster and fresher guys. 8th is solid for Guardini, nothing more and nothing less. Every top10 in this bad season start for us is nice.
Congrats to Red Bull!

A good performance by Demare, although it was really close to the podium spots.
Congratulations to Red Bull, although I can't help but be a bit sad Bennati couldn't take this, I hope you understand that Smowz.

I feel like a massive ass for not sending Coppel here. He could have been the guy in the lead for 3 days.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but depending on who takes the bonus seconds in PN, he can still do the same there as well?

Yeah, but it seems likely that a rider such as Trofimov can take bonus seconds on stage 2 or 3. They are relatively hard.
I can only cross my fingers that he fails and Lets Coppel have the jersey for those two stages, before Ricco can hopefully do well on stage 4.

Nicely hidden and camouflaged, that's the way we like it this year....
Spilak will be scoring nicely now from this points onwards, time to catch Vesuvio.
