Welcome to the first race of the CFP Season 2006. Hot favourite in Australia is of course, Tom Boonen, but the hills of stage 5 could allow team mate Paolo Bettini and other hill specialists to snatch the victory.
Stage 1
A nice easy sprint for the season opener, all riders finished in the pack, as you know who took the first win of the season
1. Tom Boonen QUICKSTEP - INNERGETIC 1h01'20
2. Enrico Gasparotto RAPHA CONDOR s.t.
3. Oscar Freire RABOBANK s.t.
4. Daniele Bennati LAMPRE - FONDITAL s.t.
5. Allan Davis ASTANA TEAM s.t.
28. Marc John RAPHA CONDOR s.t.
Stage 2
The opening hill today troubled the forum riders. Richardson was one of the many early causulaties as the pack chased down Nibali and Gerdemann. However, an easy pace brought everyone back together, and the forum riders were called upon to chase. The whole of the Rabobank team, Richardson, Brekke and Booth all took a turn, and it told near the end, as they were dropped.
Today's winner was Daniele Bennati, who leapfrog's into the lead. Marc John was the best forum rider again, and leads in 71st overall
1. Daniele Bennati LAMPRE - FONDITAL 3h27'24
2. Heinrich Haussler GEROLSTEINER s.t.
3. Fabian Cancellara TEAM CSC s.t.
74. Marc John RAPHA CONDOR + 2'18
Stage 3
The Forum riders were set to work again today, and they suffered as the race wound down to a pack sprint. Freire won to take the overall jersey, whilst today's best forum rider was Ashti Kader in 73rd. However, Albert Rasmussen is the current forum leader in 74th, 15'30 down.
1. Oscar Freire RABOBANK 3h29'00
2. Fabian Cancellara TEAM CSC s.t.
3. Heinrich Haussler GEROLSTEINER s.t.
73. Ashti Kader TEAM CSC + 12'44
Stage 4
Called again to lead the pack, the slight slopes today quite frankly destroyed the forum riders, although there losses weren't as great today. The high tempo set though didn't help the sprinters, and the more hilly riders came through in the bunch sprint. Albert Rasmussen holds on as the best forum rider
1. Danilo Di Luca RAPHA CONDOR 3h39'43
2. Stefan Schumacher GEROLSTEINER s.t.
3. Fabian Cancellara TEAM CSC s.t.
67. William Brekke CAISSE D'EPARGNE - ILLES BALEARS s.t.
Stage 5
Considering what the flat stages had done, the forumers did fairly well today. A break up the final slope gave Valverde his first win (of many...probably) and the leader's jersey, whilst only a few of the sprinters could get anywhere near. Albert Rasmussen looks set to take the first forum win, with three minutes between him and the next forumer.
1. Alejandro Valverde CAISSE D'EPARGNE - ILLES BALEARS 3h36'10
2. Stefan Schumacher GEROLSTEINER + 40
3. Andrey Kashechkin ASTANA TEAM s.t.
4. Fabian Cancellara TEAM CSC + 2'00
5. Steffen Wesemann T-MOBILE TEAM s.t.
68. Albert Rasmussen DISCOVERY CHANNEL s.t.
Stage 6
Haussler finally took a win after two podium spots to wrap us this first race. Valverde rides away with the overall win, whilst Albert Rasmussen takes the forum win. Today's best rider was Ashti Kader in 39th
1. Heinrich Haussler GEROLSTEINER 2h07'17
2. Tom Boonen QUICKSTEP - INNERGETIC s.t.
3. Enrico Gasparotto RAPHA CONDOR s.t.
39. Ashti Kader TEAM CSC s.t.
either the stage is flat or that's really very poor

why chase the break if no-one on the team has the slightest chance of a good place?
