While Stage 3 was thrillingto watch Stage 4 was very entertaining. The first intermediate sprint came at 3km, and 6 more followed at 1.6km intervals, - before the finish coming about 5km after the last sprint.
Stefan Löffler attacked early on but with 2 sprint spots available Cavendish + Hunt battled it out. Of course with the next one at 1.6km they continued sprinting and built up a healthy gap. Kiwi Jonathan Clarke was also sprinting for them all and taking 3rd each time.
Unfortunately for Hunt - Cavendish won each time. With 5km to go they had accumulated a 1'50 lead and would fight it out for the win. Surely Cavendish would take it?
Of Course! The battle for 3rd was much tighter - with Clarke being caught in the last few hundred metres.

I think you have finished first although I completely forgot that Crommy entered, so he may have beaten you in some. I am now adding a 1 rankiong point bonus per stage for the best PCMdaily rider. |

Stage 5 held a short, tough early hill before an inevitable sprint finish.
Stefano Lucarelli lept off the front to take the 30 KoM points, with Rapha's Matt Talbot taking 2nd.
The intermediate sprint with 3.5km to go was won by Russian Shcherbakov following his attack - the sprint isolated all the sprinters though who were forced to sprint unaided for 3 full km. One man came to the front at 2km to go and was unpassable. He was:
Mark Cavendish!
A late crash from Andy Schleck and Tyler Hamilton proved costly as they fell back a few places overall.
The current European Short Stage Series rankings are:
1 Jeremy Hunt GBR Rabobank 41
2 Mark Cavendish GBR Rapha Condor 41
3 Frank Schleck LUX CSC 32
4 Juan José Haedo ARG Toyota United 27
5 Justin England USA Toyota United 26
6 Thomas Lövkvist SWE Carlsberg 25
7 Alex Rasmussen DEN CSC 19
8 Jonathon Clarke NZL Air NewZealand 19
9 Charly Wegelius GBR Rapha Condor 18
10 Jörg Jaksche GER Tinkoff 18
11 Rémy Di Gregorio FRA Qantas 18
12 Tomas Tuma CZE Tinkoff 18
13 Maximiliano Richeze ARG Tinkoff 17
14 Theo Eltink NED Rabobank 17
15 Matt Goss AUS Carlsberg 15
Teams + Nations rankings will be taken at the end of the tour and will score points from their best 10 riders. |

at home sick, so thank god for the stories section
I just keep wondering where DO you get the creativity for these "wacky" ideas

Good question, with this: I like shorter stages, I like wacky stages, and I didnt want my work on the Europsport database to go to waste.
Stage 6 - London ITT
With the last 20 riders to start, the standings were:
1 Bradley Wiggins CAISSE D'EPARGNE - ILLES BALEARS 9'43
5 Graham Briggs RECYCLING.CO.UK + 16
6 Christopher Baldwin TOYOTA UNITED PRO CT + 17
7 William Walker RABOBANK s.t.
8 Mark Cavendish RAPHA CONDOR - SPIUK + 18
Local London Lad Brad Wiggins leds, determined to take a victory away from the tour.
Dave Zabriskie (26th Overall) raced into the finish to take 2nd, 4 seconds behind. Neither McGee or Reus could make inroads on Wiggins, neither could 17th overall David Millar, who took 3rd. 5 seconds off.
Noone seemed able to defeat Wiggins and the win was confirmed when Lovkvist only took 10th - but Lovkvist was still smiling - he has now taken over the overall lead.
Simon Malone was the best PCMdaily rider.

Stage 7
Position is everything for the Birmingham Downhill, and with no attacks a sprint is assured - a speed of 77kph is reached as the stage winner crosses the line. There were no crashes though.
Up front Lustrinelli held a strong position for Eurosport's young dane Bent Bkorkqvist, and Kyle Gritters had Haedo in his wheel.
Haedo came through but the high pace meant Cavendish and Goss had no hope of catching up.
A shock 2nd for Bkorkqvist, behind the Argentine.

It was chaos in Stage 8 as multiple crashes meant only 107 out of the 175 riders finished in the same group. All 3 Schlecks lost a lot - Marc + Andy were forced to withdraw from injuries (Along with 3 others) while Frank lost 4 minutes and has dropped to 14th overall.
Alex Coutts led into Manchester Velodrome as the group of 4 escapees were caught.
Kolobnev + Dean Downing led into the final lap.
Confusion in the final sprint as the riders fought through the groups of riders who had crashed and fell back.
But it was clear that Cavendish won.

I may always add more, and FYI Poland, Austria and Slovenia are vying for the European championships.
Stage 9
With 4 hills the KoM contest was sealed for Di Gregorio - who although he didnt win any of the 4, has a comfortable lead. Karpets moves up to 3rd in that classification following 1st in 3 of the 4 sprints.
Only one man could possibly win the sprint finish.
Cavendish of course!
Sadly, 3 riders withdrew today following a crash. Tinkoff's Dawid Michalski was among them.

Glad you didnt notice that you crashed out
The Final Stage
The race entered Scotland for the one and only time in this tour - So, Scot David Millar would look to win in an uphill finish.
Gesink led with 1km to go with Millar and Lustrinelli in the next positions on the road.
As the road got steeper, Millar and Wegelius caught Gesink but Lovkvist did too.
The hill rose steeply in the final metres and in a tight finish..
Tomas Lovkvist wins, to complete his overall victory.
