Ciao Colombia, it's a me, Mario! I'm ready for the start of the season, although it seems I did not make the first squads. But that is ok, cause I know my manager has great plans with me. We have successfully applied for the Tirreno-Adriatico, Milan-San Remo and even the Giro d'Italia. This is a great success for the team an it makes a me very happy. I've always dreamed of riding the Giro.

But for this season part, my main goal will be Milan-San Remo. Last year, I attacked early, hoping to stay away. This year, I will have to ride more carefull and stay in the group so I can sprint for the win. With my new team, I think I can get the support I need to get over the Cipressa and Poggio.

When it comes down to sprinting, I do feel I have become much faster then last year. I suffered a lot of defeats in Qatar and Turkey, but towards the end of the season I was getting faster and faster, even winning my first race in Hainan. I really think I'm ready for the new season, so I hope to have my first race soon, until then it's more training for me.

Pre-Season Ponderings.

As the new season sets off it's time to take a look at what our riders have been doing over the off season.

Training Camps

i93.photobucket.com/albums/l75/JoeArmstrong13/Team%20Colombia/timthumbphp.jpeg

A number of our riders took part in our yearly training camp, which this year took place in southern Italy. The guys had a great time with some serious miles and climbing, along with team building exercises and a number of race exercises, including a number of readout efforts as we aim to create a strong train for Mario and Fabio. Meanwhile on the climbs Esteban showed the team a fresh pair of heels, showing he enters this season with a great background of form. As part of the team building exercises both the team staff and riders played a game of twister as a way to break the ice, and I can now announce that this was won by Soren Berg, so hopefully this won't be his only success of the season. As well as this the team completed number of lead outs with the team separating into two groups and aiming to see who could lead out there sprinter best, however the team's sprinters weren't natural born sprinters, they were Duber Quintero and Ivan Gutierrez, this meant that the two teams had to talk to each other and make sure they didn't get broken up. The session went well and both teams successfully lead their riders out with Duber Quintero taking the final win only 3 centimetres ahead of Ivan.

6 Day races

i93.photobucket.com/albums/l75/JoeArmstrong13/Team%20Colombia/Cycling---Gent-Six-Days-008.jpg

A number of our riders took part in the 6 day races, with the team fielding a pair in all of the main 6 day races of Europe. At the Ghent six our pair of Edwin Avilla and Leonardo Duque were 6th behind Nigerian Sprinter Abasi Abundi and his partner and friend Ed Clancy, who dominated the racing from start to finish. Zurich was the next big one for us, and new signing Mario Guido and old timer Leonardo Duque bonded perfectly together as they took third place behind OPQS rider Nikki Terpstra and Dutch rider Jens Mouris, with Guido and Duque only 5 points behind second placed Jasper Stuyven and Boy Van Poppel. Amsterdam followed in kick succession, with our boys of Gregory Bernard and Edwin Avilla being up there all of the first 4 days, however after a crash for Avilla on the 5th day they lost points and momentum and came home in 7th 5 laps behind winners Nikki Terpstra and Mark Cavendish. The Berlin 6 day was cancelled after a crash in a derby race saw half of the field be forced to pull out of the racing, however Guido and Bernard were well placed for a podium. The 6-Giorni delle Rose Fiorenzuolasaw the best result for our team to date with Soren Berg and Leonardo Duque fighting to second place behind the Italian pair of Ellia Viviani and Adriano Malori, with Berg and Duque leading going into the final day, they were overtaken by the Italians in the derby race as Duque had a bad race struggling to get up to pace that the main racers were keeping. SUCCESS! The team finally cracked the victory at the Grenoble Six Day as Guido and Berg worked like clockwork methodically take the win by a lap over second placed pairing of Bryan Coquard and Johan Le Bon. The Gretchen 6 day saw Berg and Avilla take 4th over 2 laps down on the winning pair of Michael Morkov and Martyn Irvine. The Copenhagen 6 day saw another victory for Morkov and Irvine, with our team of Berg and Bernard taking third place finishing 20 points behind the victors. The Rotterdam 6 Day saw a surprise victory for Peruvian Duo Diego and Jamel Johnson as they took the win after being attacking all week, they finished a whole lap ahead of second placed Terpstra and Keisse, the Colombian Team of Avilla dn Guido finished a further lap behind in third.

Cyclocross.

i93.photobucket.com/albums/l75/JoeArmstrong13/Team%20Colombia/dohlau4.jpg

New signing Marcel Meisen spent the winter racing Cyclocross for the German national team with his season culminating in the World Championships were he was hoping for a top 15, however after a scintillating ride he came home in 8th place just under 3 minutes behind the Dutch winner Van der Poel, who became the youngest ever Elite Cyclocross World Champion.

I am 100% certain Johan Le Bon didn't ride any 6 Day races in this past offseason. He would have been far too busy with his road training and work with the other FDJ lads. Certainly he wouldn't pair with a Europcar rider in a non-World Cup/World Championship event. So i don't know where that came from...

Ciao Colombia, still no races for me, so I think I won't start the season until Langkawi. It's a similar race Hainan, far away, not many big names, so I might be able to steal a stage again like last year. After that, I come home to Italy for the Tirreno-Adriatico and then Milan - San Remo.

I also have to tell you about my winter. I tried some cyclocross, which didn't go too well. The six days races indoor went better, but still, I'm 100% sure my future is on the road now.

In other news, Tour de Gabon didn't go so well for the team, so there's some pressure already. We'll have to see how the next races go. I don't want to put too much extra pressure on the team, but I think I need to take the big step to the World Tour next year.

Hi Mario,
We are a bit disappointed with your negativity there has only been a few races and we are yet to find our feet, we admit our best team didn't go to Gabon, but we hope you begin to feel more at home with the team,
Thanks

My Debut

Ciao

We've been fighting hard in Tour of Qatar and this race was also my first as an proffessional! I've told my manager that I'm going to target races with either Time Trials or where I could help the sprinters and I hope that this criteria can be kept throughout the season.

This might be my first season, but the manager has told me that I can expect to participate in the Giro this year and I will probably be one of the youngest, if not the youngest in the whole pack. But first here is a picture of me in action in Qatar

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/EPIC/2015-02-1614_44_52-Greenshot_zps760cd9de.jpg

I set an 16'03 time and this was below my expectations and some 5 seconds slower than I was able too, the wind was awful and the air dry, which mean't that you were completely drained for water and I'm thankfull that the Time Trial wasn't longer!

I've just written a contract with the Italian Track Club called Milano Mulinello, whom I'm gonna race in their main division for some few months. I'm only gonna compete in some different events, since I'm gonna need all the experience as possible for the Giro.

Also I'm only a few months away from getting the opportunity to apply for Italian citizenship as I've almost lived in Italy for 9 years and also I've been invited to represent the Danish National Team after the Giro, where I', planning on taking a break from road cycling for a few weeks.

Take Care!

The Coca Cola Cup will be relaunching this year as last year it seemed to falter and then fizzle out, so we are here to launch it again. To begin with there will be 5 rounds but this may increase if the series goes well the rules are as follows.

Rules

- Teams will be made up of 6/7 riders.
- If there are to many teams Continental teams will be given priority.
- Points will be given to the top 15 riders.
- There will also be a team classification which will be taken by a teams best three riders. Meaning that 7 teams will be eligible for the team competition.
- The races will take place on different terrains, from cobbles to mountains to find the most overall rider and team.
- Teams must not change between races meaning that team managers must select their riders wisely.
- Riders will be selected with South American and African riders taking priority followed by any EPIC riders on that team, who will have there own classification and league table, the rest will feature the lowest average riders on the team to fill spaces.

Round 1: Mountainous Road Race

So here we are the start of the first round of the Coca Cola cup a 5 round series trying to find the best talent in South America and Africa as well as trying to find the best young talent in the professional peloton. The series consists of three overall rankings, the first being to find the best African and South American cyclist, one to try and find the best young rider in the pro peloton, and another for the teams taking part in the series. The young riders selected to race have been chosen as one of their teammates is eligible for the overall prize of best South American or African Rider. The favourites for this round are the two Sky riders Sergio Henao and Rigoberto Uran, who come into this race with a strong team of riders behind them, as for the outsiders there is Diego Johnson of Orica, Thomas Hinault of AG2R and Jose Alcaron of Caja Rural. So there off an immediately there's an attack of the front its Slagter of Belkin, however the Orica boys chased him down, then Birt goes for it and the group ease up, so the break of the day has gone away and it's Birt, Bonnaford (AG2R) and Slagter (Belkin) there's a couple of teams riding but the gap is going out. The pace kicks on now and Birt is caught, the pace eases and there is an immediate counter attack from Jamel Johnson (Tinkoff) the pace squeezes on again, and the bunch strings out, and he is caught before the summit of the climb, then Orica take over the pace making with Birt and Evans setting a ferocious pace on the front of the bunch, there is only 13 riders left here. Nairo Quintana is well out of contention with over 7 minutes behind the bunch of favourites. On the penultimate climb of the day there's an attack from the bunch from Betancur and all of the favourites jumpo to respond, however Johnson's teammates are distanced now so it seems there is no one to ride on the front except the man himself, but its Uran who gets the gap and he seems to be riding to victory now with Betancur and Hinault chasing him down. As the riders hit the final climb Uran has a 45 second lead over a group of 5 riders behind it seems he has the win in the bag. Uran takes it easily, what a ride!

Yet again i don't know what you are talking about with one of my riders, Thomas Hinault. Whilst Thomas isn't racing at the moment he is far too busy with his main training, media duties and personal life to be taking part in an extra race series. TMM Sports Management certailny weren't aware of any event so Thomas most certainly wasn't. Obviously this means that above result is not correct.

Also he doesn't ride for AG2R Rolling Eyes:lol:

EDIT: Sorry if i missed a previous announcement of the series but i would have removed my riders back then if i did. No surprise as i've pulled them out of all but 1

I'd prefer to not have Hintermüller, Khamphan and O'Callaghan in this anymore. There are way too many initiatives like this imo. You could've been reporting an actual race in the meantime, instead of doing another pointless series that adds absolutely nothing to the game. This isn't meant personally or anything, its just my opinion on series like this.

I was hoping that Diego Johnson or a Colombian rider (from a break most likely) would of won, but I guess not. Sad Wink

Here is the latest blog of Italian Stallion, Mario Guido.
Enjoy!

Ciao Italia, here I am to report my first stage in Langkawi. It was not too bad, except towards the end I found myself alone without a train. I had to open very early and despite getting a gap, it was just too far. I managed to hang on for 3rd though, which isn't bad. Tonight we will need to sit down with the team and analyse what went wrong. A win might still be possible, so we need to go for it again tomorrow!

"Doing my job"

Me and the team have just started the Malaysian stage race with a big burst and are doing a strong team effort (excluding Dowsett) and Tour de Langkawi is dominated by our strong force. It's good being back at the road and I'm currently looking to use this race as a warm up for Tirreno - Adriatico.

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/EPIC/Ep-Lang-2-%206_zpsrug3rykt.jpg

My job today was to give our sprinting train the best options possible and I can just say that was the thing I did! Guido has gotten himself a great start to the race and I hope to help him getting a stage win and 6 more opportunities is just what we need to get that!
