What a mess! Though, very nice reporting from it, SN.
I just hope Antón isn't injured if he went down, and I guess Impey can't be as he somehow found himself on the same time as Ponzi. Now let's get that mountain stage out of the way and start sprinting
A nice start for Martin, Pluchkin, Cunego and Trofimov thinking of the time loss for the others, hopefully the big guns will provide fireworks already on stage 3. |

Hopefully Rujano is ok, otherwise all my chances of top 10 finish are away...

Well that's great. At least most of the other favorites lost time as well.

Damn you Metinvest. I know what you are doing there. Crashing out all GC riders and then go strong with Popovych.
I got a shock when seeing Gomez Marchante right next to the crash.
Speaking of GM, I fear that the missing team support could become a problem in a GT. Hopefully he is not isolated too early and going for water bottles while the attacks are coming.
Not sure why I only sent Reguigui here as also Olivier or Koep could have changed a bit. But in general I just miss the climbing domestiques in my team.
Nice report SN. Very interesting to follow the Giro so far.
For the next stage I predict Impey/Ponzi/Reolandts etc. to battle for the win.
But it would be a nice surprise if Guardini can show something here.

It seems that Ricco isn't injured, which is pretty nice! Having two guys in the stage top 10 is also cool. We need to take every single point we can get. B&O are really powering away here!

Goes to show my team is rather one-dimensional when we, after Pluchkin's first three race days have had as much succes in the three stages as the entire season so far together.
Nevertheless amazing start, the DS is thrilled!

Okay nada so far though keeping gaps away on the hilly stuff suits, nit really surprised that the grinding Etna climb proved a fairly stoic stage. It is all in the legs though and will ultimately whittle down the titans.
Encouraged to see Mestre trying.

Glad to see that VDB and his climbing support seemed to make it through without crashing. I'm just looking for a top 15 overall, maybe even top 10 if I'm lucky. I think I have a stage win goal here but that just isn't going to happen, given we are still waiting for our first win of the season.

Very poor start for us there - Our only real mention was Samwel being distanced on that descent. Hopefully our best moments are yet to come. |

Luckily the dropped GC riders in the wind found their way back and only lost 31s to the first 12.
Pluchkin, Cunego, Trofimov and Martin with yet another huge gain.
Not sure if Villella was supporting Guardini or an injury from the crash. But he better starts attacking and let`s the support to Krieger or Sbaragli. |

It will be really hard for Degenkolb to win here, if every "flat" stage look similar to this one

Rujano looking good after his fall, he is not losing minutes on the wind or hills so far... Not looking like a bad race for me so far.

Well this is a really bad start for Nibali. He's going to have to make some moves if he's going to move up.

Well, I'm loving this, that's for sure! Ponzi wins two, Scarponi and Malori taking 2nd on each of the other stages. Two days in the KOM jersey, and a day in pink. Not bad for the Italiano sponsors.
Loiving the reports - and not just for my success, but as always enjoyable to read.

It's a shame Nechita couldn't make the time limit.

Very nervous Giro so far. The stages have been incredibly intense, with lots of interesting moments. Pretty abnormal for a GT 1st week. It's a shame to see Ferreira go so early, but Fothen has been solid so far which gives me hope for a good performance. Congrats to Good Energy for their double win.
And thanks for the excellent reports SN. Couldn't be more excited for this Giro.

Congrats to Aker. Nice win there.
Personally I am happy with that stage. Couldn`t except Guardini to be there.
Gomez Marchante in the peloton and Villella as wanted in the breakaway. He hopefully tries more often in the next stages. |
