Interested to see how Coquard does. He's been impressive in Gent-Wevelgem before, but not sure if he can handle this. The form is definitely there though. |

Being a teammate and protecting your leaders has a new part to its job description. Looks to me like he clearly moves over to hit they guy to ensure Kittel doesn't get hit.
Lol, that doesn't make any sense. There's no way any rider would take that risk. Hitting a spectator would increase the risk of your leader crashing imo. |

I have a hard time figuring this one out. Clearly there will be crashes and punctures which can change everything. Luckily there is no Euskaltel here to disrupt it all.
I can't really figure if Cancellara has the manpower to really tare up the pack, in terms of getting only 10-20 guys with him to the end. It could, for what its worth, be a group of 70-80 riders. And if it is the sprint will probably be between Demare, Kristoff, Degenkolb, Sagan, Haussler, Petit and Kwiatkowski... I have no clue about Albasini. Can he cobble well?
The bunch won't be that big at the end, I see it playing out like 2010 with a bunch of smaller groups towards the end. I doubt it will be a lone rider coming in with a big advantage but if someone does win with a attack of the front there still won't be much in it. It looks to short for someone like Cancellara to drop the faster guys but I expect him to try, Chavanel should have a dig but as other have said the Roubaix cobbles don't suit him. I'd say it's down to Sagan, Dagenkolb maybe Demare but I have no idea what he is like on this terrain.
Should be a great stage and the weather really adds something to this stage

this is the stage where Kwiatowski puts a few minutes into his competition to be leading the Tour into at least the final week imo
personally think Sagan will take this (and the resulting yellow jersey) and hold it until stage 9 or 10 |

With so many races in the race I expect the pace to be extremely high.
Which leads decrease the chances of Cancellara winning today, although all bookies has him as the favourite. Furthermore the stage is not long enough for him to out-fatigue the others.
I do think Degenkolb-Sagan-Kristoff will be the guys riding for the win. The top 3 will be between them. Vanmarcke and Van Avarmaet to take the 4th and 5th.
Very excited to see how Demare can do today. |

Orchies and Mons-en-Pévèle..... 2 most difficult sectors in the middle. I'm wondering if Froome.exe isnt feeling well and this is just a "coincidence" that 2 best sectors for splits early on in the race are suddenly unrideble....... |

Is it confirmed that the two sections will be removed? |

Yes. These sections are flooded, they can't be raced basically.

Man, there goes the epic factor. But hey, if it's too dangerous, than fine by me and good for the riders. Blame the race planners though, who should think about safety and stuff before announcing a route and then ease it up on the day the stage is raced... That's just rather pointless and leaves one feel robbed... Still hoping for some quality racing today of course, bring it.
EDIT: Oh, the rain is so heavy? Well, nevermind then what I said.

Pity the sections have been taken out but looks like a unavoidable situation, still should be in for a good stage with what looks like Epic wet conditions. It will be amusing tomorrow when we get the usual stories from rider and DS's about how stages like this shouldn't be included in GT's

Yeah, epic and also unknown wet conditions. I mean, when was the last time it rained at Paris-Roubaix? From the feels of it, more than 10 years ago? Maybe this stage will be after all more Paris-Roubaix than I imagined due to wet conditions.

Come on, is this cycling or football? What's the use of a cobbled stage if you take away the hard ones?
A Grand Tour should be about all aspects of cycling, cobbles are a part of that.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I think it would be possible to remove standing water in the morning before the race but thats only good if it stopped raining, if its non stop then its pointless |

From the reports the sections are flooded thus can't be ridden on, doubt they would have been dropped unless they were extreme conditions. I should imagine the peloton would nutralize if they had been left in and the riders deemed it unsafe. It happened at the Giro and they were proven correct
