@sutty68
Cheers mate.
@welker3257
True enough. I don't think a story of relaying at the head of the peloton for Froome in PCM would make a fun story.

Pietermaritzburg U23 World Championship - 5 x 9,7km
The World Championship course in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa wasn’t a particularly technical one. With a few short technical sections and two real climbs the race was geared towards guys with excellent endurance and laser sharp focus. A course which before this year wouldn’t have suited me, but with my one and a half season on the road, I had some new found confidence in my endurance levels. And not just me it seemed. The bookies had Dutchman Michiel van Der Heijden and the Italian Gerhard Kerschbaumer (what kind of Italian ends up with that name?) as the favourites, with me as a close third. Irrelevant in my opinion though, as my most important believer was standing next to the finish-line in the form of my sweet Daphné.
Michiel van der Heijden would be chasing behind the facts for most of the day though as it was the Frenchman Julien Trarieux who challenged the field by accelerating right out of the start. Kerschbaumer, the Canadian Caron and I took him up on his challenge and followed in his wheel. Ending the first lap with an 8 second lead on the rest of the field.
Towards the end of lap 2 it was the Belgium Didier Bats who caught up with us as Caron started to fade. Our lead now having grown to 19 seconds as we started lap 3.
By the time we were in lap 4 it was clear that the winner would be coming from our group as our lead had grown to 24 seconds with van der Heijden mounting a comeback in the background. I probably was the strongest finisher in the group, but with the super legs I was feeling I decided to mount an attack on the second climb. At first gaining a small gap with Trarieux as he bit himself in my back-wheel.
Trarieux didn’t last long though as by the time we reached the top he started to crack, my lead exceedingly growing as I smoothly kept turning my pedals.
By the time the final lap started my lead had grown to 13 seconds.
I couldn’t quite believe it as I raised my hands to the sky. A mountain of build-up stress falling off my shoulders. To ride the perfect race on the most important day, what a feeling it was. And to embrace Daphné after the finish just made it a little more special. A fitting ending to a massive chapter in my life.
1 | Nicholas Arcier | Malta | 1:31:27 | 2 | Julien Trarieux | France | + 28 | | 3 | Michiel Van Der Heijden | Netherlands | + 37 | | 4 | Gerhard Kerschbaumer | Italy | s.t | | 5 | Julian Schelb | Germany | + 58 | |
Spoiler Seeing how there is no decent mountain bike game out there and PCM13 doesn't have a cyclocross DB. I had to use PCM09 and the PCM Benelux Cyclocross DB and a little bit of imagination.

So that was the prologue/introduction. Hope you enjoyed it. From here on out it will be mostly PCM.

Whaaat, this is only getting better and better. Definitely turning into my favourite story on the site. Absolutely great win for Nicholas!
PCM12 has one pretty decent Cyclocross DB (StanosBase), so you can try that if you want.

@dark_x2012, @sutty68
Thanks!
@admirschleck
Thanks for the support! And I know, I don't own PCM12 though and didn't feel like getting it just for one race. Maybe if I decide to comeback to mtb/cyclocross in the future I'll get it.
@Martial1
Thanks. The racing is just around the corner.

U23 MTB World Champion signs for Team Tissot.
Maltese mountain biker Nicholas Arcier (23) has agreed to a 3 year contract with the newly formed team, sponsored by Swiss watchmaker Tissot who are taking over the Radioshack WorldTour license.
Arcier who became hot commodity after finishing 4th in the Tour of Gila early in the season, followed up by a strong performance in the Tour of California. Team managers at Tissot describe the young rider from Malta as “A powerful puncheur who isn’t afraid of a little bit of pavé.” The rider who last month won the U23 MTB World Title in Pietermaritzburg is one of two Maltese riders in the WorldTour next year as fellow 23 year old Aziz Kastell will be featured in the Lampre-Merida squad starting 2014.
Sky General Manager “We had no interest what so ever.”
Long considered the primary contender for Arcier his autograph was Team Sky, who ultimately ended up empty handed. Their GM however could assure us though that they were never considering signing the Maltese rider.
Who are we to doubt the best team in cycling?

Very impressive so far. It seems you took the best elements from all the inspiration stories you mention at the start and combined them into one. I tip my hat to you sir.

If there was one major benefit that came with signing for a Swiss team it was the salary. With €5,000 a month I had nothing to complain about, it took mother some convincing (And a monthly allowance out of my paycheck), but she agreed to let me move to the mainland. Varese, Lombardy in Italy to be exact. Home of the greatest monument in the form of the Giro di Lombardia. Terrain on which I could train year round in preparation of my season.
For this year my schedule would be a quite simple one. I would be starting in France in the Tour Méditerranéen where I would get a free role.
Next up I would serve Fabian Cancellara in the Belgian opening weekend by riding both the Omloop het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, team expectations to be a win in one of them. Then I would get my second free role of the season and my personal goal for this spring in the Strade Bianche.
Then I would pull on the outfit of loyal servant for Andy Schleck in Paris-Nice, to then proceed on to my first monument of my career in Milan-San Remo where I would mostly be riding to build resistance, but would give Fabian a helping hand wherever possible.
With the Italian monument the most important section of the team its schedule would commence with the E3 Prijs, Gent-Wevelgem and the two big ones in the Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris-Roubaix all in which I would serve as a domestique. This would mark the end of my spring season setting me up for a long break till August.
My schedule for the second half of the season would be a short one, but intense. First there would be a training camp in Cangas de Onis, to be followed by my return to the United States with the Tour of Utah where I would get my first role as absolute leader. With that one week long stage race in my legs I would go to Spain for my major goal of the season, la Vuelta a Espana. This year’s profile provided a lot of opportunities for attacking and plenty of hilly finals. I would be aiming for a stage win and be required to assist Arredondo wherever needed.
After the Vuelta there would be one final appointment in Ponferrada for the World Championships (where Tissot expects a top 3 finish in the TTT) to mark the end of my season.
My personal goals for the season where quite simple, be a good teammate in the spring races and get a win for the team and more importantly... get a win for myself.

Awesome update once again I really dig the screenshots, well done! You've got an eye for camera angles.
Hope he's strong enough to get in the selection for the Worlds at the end of the season! |

There shouldn't be a lot of competition for a spot in the Malta squad, hopefully. And thanks for the compliment on the screens. Noticed it's a lot easier to take shots when not in the middle of a hectic race.

There shouldn't be, but you never know
You edited Malta in as a country for the WC, right? How many riders have you given them for the RR event? |

Yes I have. 3 RR and 2 TT. For now I've replaced South Africa, might change it up depending on the neo pros that get generated.
