Gran Premio Miguel Indurain
The Spanish stars were the favourites for this race, and they played their role well. But so did Jakob Fuglsang, finishing 4th, missing the podium by only half a bike length. Igor Antón (Euskaltel-Euskadi) took the win in a photofinish against Alejandro Valverde (Movistar).
It was this close that Jakob was beaten by Gárate (Belkin)
Many different riders were very active, trying their luck like Oliver Kaisen (Lotto) or Alexandre Pliuschin (IAM) who rewarded himself for his effort with the 10th place.
Jakob attacked together with Vavlerde, Edet (Cofidis) and Belkin's Slagter, while Igor Antón didn't move and let his team do the job. Now we know that was the right decision.
Here are our full results:
1 Igor Antón (Euskaltel)
2 Alejandro Valverde (Movistar)
3 Juan Manuel Gárate (Belkin)
4 Jakob Fuglsang +29"(ASTANA)
5 Tom-Jelte Slagter (Belkin)
6 Giampaolo Caruso (Katusha)
7 Nicolas Edet (Cofidis)
8 Jelle Vanendert (Lotto Belisol)
9 Thabo Jango Sithembile (Sky)
10 Alexandre Pliuschin (IAM)
30 Fabio Aru +6'43"
39 Valerio Agnoli s.t.
46 Paolo Tiralongo s.t.
51 Alessandro Vanotti +8'09"
70 Borut Bozic +8'58"

I am very happy to have signed for such a well established professional team, as when I was moving through the ranks in Peru I would look up to riders like Nibali and Fuglsang, who inspired me to develop as a bike racer, so I see it as a great honour to get to ride with these great riders. I think that I am most suited to stage racing as I enjoy riding alone against the clock, as well as attacking up the climbs, that I have grown up with. I think that this team really suits my style of riding, and I can't wait to get started as a rider in this team, that has had so much success in the past.

Hey Mr. Akdeniz,
I was wondering if you know which races that I would be able to ride as I am very excited about riding for the team, as I see it as a brilliant opportunity to develop as a bike rider, and signing my first pro contract with a World Tour team makes me feel that I have potential to be a rider of the future. I hope that I can develop into a rider that can support riders in the mountains, or that can lead a team in my own right.
Thanks
Diego Johnson

No I didn't. You applied for them, unfortunately both races were almost full and the last wildcard went to someone else. It was a bit unfortunate, but you're not the only one who misses a race or 2 from the ones they applied for. I don't think anyone should have more then 2 races rejected, but I'll check later.

I am very happy to be given the opportunity to ride the Tour De France, which will be my first race as a professional so that shows that the team has confidence in me, and I think that I can do a great job for Nibali in the mountains, as I love to climb an to help such a great rider in the aim of him winning the Tour De France, which I think is highly possible as he is in great form at the minute, and from the training that we have done together in the Alps he looks in the form of his life so I hope that he can convert that into success for the team.
Personally I think that finishing the race would be a great success, although I hope that I cane be in the top 10 when the race hits the mountains, although my main goal is to help Nibali, although I think that I may be capable to win a Grand Tour in the future, although this year I just want to gain experience, and maybe get a top 20 overall, which I think is highly possible as a lot of teammates, such as Chris Froome last year have managed to finish highly whilst helping their teammate on GC. I think that the second Time Trial will suit me very well, so I hope that I can perform well against the watch as it is an opportunity to prove I can win on the big stage in the future, but I also thnk that we should perform well in the team time trial as we will have a very strong team at the race, so we are capable of even dominating the race.

Nibali is so close. To the finish, to Betancur. Bu while the finish comes closer, the Colombian just keeps to stay ahead of him. The Shark is missing those last centimeters, but frankly, maybe it’s not that important. What is important is that he finishes the stage on second place, 7 seconds behind Quintana. But in turn, he probably won the Giro today, after Betancur lost considerable time, 1’25 down on Quintana.
Nibali 2nd +7''
Stage 19erfect.Gaining time on everyone except Quintana
Nibali 6th +9'35''
