The stage 5 will be absolutely crucial, otherwise it will all come to the final TT absolutely easily. It wouldn't be the worst thing though, that would be quite positive news for my leader Rigoberto.

brutal tt, phinney seems to have ridden off at the end and taken 20 seconds on the rest of the team haha
Shocked Caldwell and van Rensburg lost 5 minutes as decent tt'ers.
Those gaps are all from Stage 1 - time bonus / crash
geez i was tired, can't believe i didn't process that.

Well deserved win after the crash'n'all. And for Popo to take some time bonusses is pretty good.

Really nice results for me! Uran is in a great position before that two decisive stages, König is riding well once again, even he couldn't keep himself in the leader's group, great effort. Hopefully there will be some gaps between favourites in the mountain stage, for once...

That was a golden opportunity wasted for Team B&O and Keinath. Impressive win by Bakelants, really proving his class.
For the GC, this looks like it's Phinney's race to lose, but it really depends on the mountain stage. Hopefully the best climbers will have a real go at it, forcing gaps and a tough final climb. |

Fothen barely hanging on there. I really have to hope for him to put in a nice mountains effort.
GC wise he could still do decent, but it costs a shitload of point over the season to never be in top 10 in the stages.

It was a long ask to not expect Scarponi to do something stupid, but still, that was at a whole new level of unexpected behaviour.

Well deserved stage and GC lead for Bakelants. Otherwise pleased with the outcome, as Pedraza is still in a very good position. It is very tight though, so the 2nd place can easily become 15th if he doesn't stay sharp.

Congrats to Bakelants and his team, deserved win for the best puncher in the field. Popovych was probably tired from the earlier efforts, it is all about stage hunting for him now anyway. Popkov with a decent result to replace him.

A decent stage and who knows Bakelants may just hang on, on the next climb. For my money he will not - I think it looks the right sort of profile to 'hurt' the riders (changing from steep to shallow a few times).
Actually could be interesting to see if Pedraza is dropped by some of the other GC men as well. He traditionally is a second tier man and is in an unfamiliar position who knows what will happen.
Gesink has to attack Phinney I feel or at the very least get bonification time to have a chance in the TT.

Much better stage there for Scarponi. I think he's going to be the focus of any training I do this coming season. 2nd in the youth rankings nets me a few more points if he can hold on to it. TT isn't his strongest asset after all.

Damn. Without that 14 seconds gap Fothen would have been a real bet for a podium. It will be difficult now, seeing that Phinney is right on his heals.
30km with a small national bonus should give the edge on riders such as Brajkovic, Pedraza and Urán but seeing that Brajkovic now has a 36 second gap I don't think Fothen will overtake him. 22 seconds perhaps. Gesink is a better TTer than Fothen and will probably extend slightly, while Phinney will destroy the competition.
I suspect the 16 second deficit on Pedraza will be manageable, as will the 11 second deficit on Uran in these conditions - I think. But it will be close.
It could be 4th or 5th, but unfortunately not better. A little less of a loss could probably have given 3rd, or possibly even 2nd.
Tim Dees is in a difficult position aswell. Koren and Bookwalter aren't far behind, but it should be possible to challenge Brandt and Danacik the other way around. 25th is probably the end outcome for him. Mollema could drop well out of the top 30.

I think with the yellow jersey on his shoulders, Gesink would have had a chance to win to overall. But, now I just hope he'll stay on his bike on the 2 flat stages to finish second, behind Phinney.

Phinney must be crazy expensive next season, with that TT stat. He should be winning whatever he wants next year.

Hasn't he always been 83 in time-trial?

There's no way Brajkovic keeps the lead. It's nice to see him grab it though.

Interesting stage which played out as quite a tense battle. Phinney struggled - but still favourite for me he usually canes everyone against the clock in a stage race. Here we go once more - he is the Wiggo of the Man Game I think.

In Dauphine, Phinney beat Gesink by 42 seconds. The time - trial was 8 km longer than this one, but also had 2 climbs on the route, which I'm pretty sure favored Gesink. I think Gesink might have a slight chance after all.

Great win!
Hopefully Uran will only lose a place to Phinney and not to Fothen as well in the final TT. 4th place from this race would be a good results for sure, as I expect he will beat Pedraza, hopefully. Nice riding by König again.
Phinney vs Brajkovic vs Gesink should be an interesting battle.
