Again, thank you!
I'm starting to think that valv321 was spot on about the difficulty of PCM13. I'll play through TDU on hard and then switch to extreme unless it suddenly becomes a whole lot harder to get results in the next few days

Santos Tour Down Under: Stage 4
January 25th, 2014
Quite a bit of climbing on the next stage as well, but still probably the easiest day of the race so far. Time to see who has the best pure speed in the race.
Thanks to Trek and Movistar's interest in assuring that the breakaway wouldn't steal an excellent opportunity for the sprinters - our day turned out a whole lot easier than expected. Instead, our riders could take it easy and rest up before the big test on Willunga Hill tomorrow.
We did of course eventually emerge from the shadows to do what no other team seemed capable of doing: setting up a sprint train. Siskevicius was in fact not the last rider in line however, as Koretzky took place behind him to stay clear of potential crashes.
Main threat Felline found his way to a good position too.
No team seemed to have neither the capacity nor the intention of challenging us, so Skujins was able to pull for a good number of kilometers and still have a little left in the tank to launch the sprint with 3 km to go.
Then, something I still can't understand happened.
Felline suddenly just drifted off Koretzky's wheel, slowing down to find a new position, two wheels further back. Giving up position isn't the strange part, however - that was the fact that none of the riders who had previously sat behind Felline made an effort to shut the gap that appeared in front of them.
The result:
Thiré did the best he could to let Siskevicius and Koretzky stay protected for as long as possible, but when Andrea Guardini started bringing the sprinters back in contact again with 700m to the finish - it was time to go.
Nathan Haas (66 SP!) came pretty close, but no one had enough left to overtake Siskevicius and Koretzky and subsequently prevent us from taking a double! Felline finished with the highest speed, but could only manage a 4th place after his blackout earlier.
We're now also 1st and 2nd in both general and points classifications. In other words, the race is going pretty well!

I almost want to apologize for these results. I don't know if it's just the AI that's stupid as hell or something else, but I hope things will get a bit more challenging soon. A weak field this early in the season could be a factor as well.
Anyway, extreme is almost a certainty after this race.

You're right about the extreme difficulty, Pelli, you're just too good.

Great results for La Pomme here, some important points should be coming in at the moment. Hopefully Koretzky can keep his GC lead on Willunga Hill
Though I don't know why you don't change the dfficulty during the race if you are going to change it anyway? |

Thanks, all. It's great to see that you're enjoying the results, despite their ridiculousness
Froomedog - I want to see a proper hilly stage and a real mass sprint before changing, just in case the AI were to suddenly become better.

Santos Tour Down Under: Stage 5
January 26th, 2014
Had Koretzky's sneaky move on stage 3 not been rewarded the way it was, we'd have 124 riders within 20 seconds of the race lead at this point. That should definitely change on this stage, with a Willunga Hill-double en route.
Another day, another break that never stood any chance of staying away. Ian Stannard and his buddies were in fact brought back as early as just after the day's second intermediate sprint - roughly 35 km from the finish.
As the climb came closer, the teams who had previously done the pacemaking started to ease up the speed a bit to make sure that their respective leaders were properly positioned.
This triggered a wave of attacks, from the likes of Roux, Kiryienka, Bakelants and Velits, among others. All were quite quickly reeled back, however.
Once Willunga Hill began in earnest, we had Skujins take the lead and try to keep potential attacks in control - a task he fulfilled with brilliance.
That is, up to the point where pre-race favourite Spilak dug in with a massive attack and cracked him. Instead, the response had to come from Visconti.
The duo eked out around 30 seconds of advantage before passing the official KoM - at which point the pursuit had been taken over by no one else than Felline!
During the kilometers following, the two strong riders up front continued to extend their lead (it peaked around 50 seconds), but when the domestiques finally found their way back to the front of the peloton after some recovering, it didn't take them very long to bring everything back together.
We played it very cool during the chase, but returned to the front again with Skujins, Koretzky and Siskevicius right at the bottom of the final hill.
Skujins only lasted a few hundred meters this time around however, since dangerous attacks started flying almost right away. This time the offensive was led by Felline, accompanied by two familiar names: Spilak and Visconti
Koretzky opted not to counter the attack, but rather find an own (albeit very high) rhythm, due to the relatively long distance remaining.
The tactic started to look more and more promising the further up the road we got, as Spilak and Visconti both started to suffer from the last attack, leaving only Felline with a small gap on the rest of the peloton.
Having kept something in reserve for the finale, Koretzky then started making his way up towards Felline inside the final kilometer.
Together with an equally quick Rinaldo Nocentini, and a fighting Spilak, he also started putting a few meters between himself and the peloton in the process.
That was all for second place though, since Felline was unstoppable! No one really came closer after his attack, resulting in a deserved second win of the week!
He was also awarded a gap of 9 seconds on Nocentini, who took 2nd from Koretzky in a photofinish. 4th placed Spilak will surely be kicking himself over what could have been if he had just waited for the final climb. Simon Clarke also made it in with this elite group in the end, finishing with great speed.
The rest of a reduced peloton was led across the line by Moreno Moser and Paul Martens a few meters further back, 27 seconds after Felline finished. A total of 44 riders were given this time, including Siskevicius and Skujins for us.
Overall victory is now only one stage away for Koretzky! Felline and Clarke are new 2nd and 3rd, while Siskevicius drops down to 5th - also passed by Nocentini. Third place is still within reach if the final stage goes well!
